Is Krillin really a dwarf?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Is Krillin really a dwarf?

Post by godzuko » Sat Feb 23, 2013 12:45 pm

I have always been skeptical of Krillin being called a dwarf. Now I know he is very short but he isn't THAT short. So... I did some research. Krillin's height as an adult is 5 feet 0 inches tall. The requirement for a person to be a dwarf, or little person (midget apparantly is an offensive term to those the word refers to) that person has to be at most 4 feet and 10 inches in height. Yeah Krillin runs a little close but... close but no cigar. Also has any of ever seen a real dwarf? They definetly don't look like Krillin does. (Sure Krillin doesn't have a nose(If that is a true "fact") , but his condition has nothing to do with the condition of dwarfism let alone any of the conditions that lead to it.)
Dwarfs have bodies that look like that of a child's yet they really are an adult's. Even dwarfs who are more athletic and go to the gym, their figures don't change much from their childish form. Krillin, well look at him. His body really isn't of a child's He obviously doesn't have that baby belly feature you find in dwarfs. Yeah he did have that appearance as a kid but so did Goku.

Thoughts?

Yeah, Krillin's just a really short guy. He only seems dwarf-sized next to other characters because of how much height differences tend to get exaggerated in DBZ (see Goku and Vegeta in the Saiyan saga for a good example--officially they're only a few inches apart, but the difference looks HUGE when they're next to each other, especially when Vegeta first shows up.)

The only unusual genetic condition he might have is whatever it was that caused him to be born noseless.

He is a dwarf that should join Bilbo on his adventures.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Kuririn is the Danny DeVito of Dragonball.
He is short, the butt of height jokes, but still a very entertaining guy with impressing abilities.

EDIT: Wrong word.

There are many kinds of dwarfism. The kind you're referring to is disproportionate dwarfism, which is what we mostly see of little people in the media. If Kuririn is indeed a little person, he has proportionate dwarfism.

Personally, I like the idea that Kuririn's a little person. He's one of the few positive portrayals of little people in fiction where the height doesn't define the character, where he's written as a fully rounded human being.
