I went on Amazon to check on the product, and I saw this as the front cover for it.
Does this image look familiar?

That'd be a real slap in the face. I mean, I'm not exactly wanting then kanzenban released here (I'm happy with the VizBigs, though I would want them to come here for the people that do want them) other than that additional ending, but...putting any kind of better release's cover on the front of these crappy three-in-one releases is a really big finger to the fans almost.

"Slap in the face" is exactly the term I'd use.

Seeing as how the cover doesn't even specify which volumes are included in this "3-in-1," I'm guessing (and hoping) that this isn't finalized.
If it is, though, then that's basically the final nail in the coffin for the chance of getting an American version of the Kanzenban as we know them.

Yikes, guess I should start thinking more seriously about getting the Japanese Kanzenban. Didn't really think it was likely that Viz would publish them, but this is "the nail in the coffin" as you say, MagicBox.
Kinda funny that the high quality Japanese release and the low quality English releases are going to share the same covers

Yeah, too bad they didn't just use the tiled design like in the One Piece versions. I'm a big supporter of Viz, and I can see why they would say "Hey, we need some new art for the covers... looks like there's some right here!" I think Viz does a good job over-all, but their focus lately has been NEW series, and perhaps they just don't have the resources to spend on Dragon Ball. Too bad, because DB is a classic, a money maker, and has such a strong fan base.

Is there a shred of hope that this isn't the standard Viz 3-in-1, but kanzenbans with more chapters per book?

I don't know what to say... hopefully we'll more information/confirmation as to the contents when the damn thing is released.
It's looking like we'll probably never get a wholly uncut release of the manga over here, but damn, I'm still hoping that the recent Full Color Comics are released in a physical format sometime in the near future (slightly edited or no).
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Ouch, Viz.
Has anyone tried contacting them on their Twitter about this?

Well that cover is both exciting and disappointing. Maybe I'll get a couple for the heck of it at some point, but for now I'm satisfied with my Viz Bigs.
Of course if there's more to this than a simple condensed reprint with pretty covers, then that might change everything.
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

Won't lie, this kind of burns. I was hoping to start picking up the Dragon Ball mangas, but with the news, it looks like I'll have to wait until I learn Japanese (and I'm lazy...

) before I import the manga.
Maybe we'll get a correct translation this time, but that doesn't seem likely at this point. That'd be the only reason why I would get this instead of waiting.

If they are truly using the Kanzenban cover, it is a terrible shame. I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and just out of curiosity I thumbed through the Naruto 3-in-1. It was awful. The paper was thin to the point that I felt nervous I'd rip it just turning the page, and you couldn't even call the paper white. The pages were a faded color like you would find in a book you've kept in a damp basement for years upon years. I've never seen or held a Kanzenban in person but these 3-in-1s are what I imagine the exact opposite would be.

Mike has on Twitter, so I'll guess we'll find out soon enough.

Us Dragonball fans go through so much crap before we get what we truly want...
What gives 'Every Rights Holder of Dragonball'...?

You should try flipping through an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump sometime
