What? I'm playing Final Bout?

Post by Kendamu » Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:05 am

It's strange, but true. I don't know about you guys, but I actually like this game! I've been playing this off and on since I got it but today was the first time I got to sit down and actually play it for a decent period of time. Beforehand, other people wanted to go up against me and also try it out for themselves and I just kept getting distracting complaints about it.

When I play this by myself it's really fun!

Of course, then again, there's a lot of painful things I consider fun.

Good for you. I liked it when I first bought it. Mayby if I play it today, I will like it again (it has been so manny years).
If you know what you are getting, and don't complain abouth the graphics, gameplay, etc. (well, a lot of things) then you can enjoy this game. Well, I believe you can. :?

:P I liked it the first time I opened it, then laughed at how slowly the characters moved. That is the only thing I truly resent about Final Bout...that and the fact that FUNi didn't add their voice actors in the reissue. :x

I would've preferred consistency but there seems to be sort of a collectability added to it for it having the 1997 issue voices.

I got this around 1-2 years ago, a little before the re-release.
I did enjoy it then, but haven't played it lately. I dunno how it would stack up, now that I've played the new games.

I honestly didn't think it was nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be. It stayed in my PS1 for a few weeks straight before I started playing other stuff again.

Guess I'm not very picky with games. :P

So the re-issue is the SAME game as the original one?

Well, you know people used to consider hitting a tiny pixelated ball back and forth across the screen to be amazing graphics, so I've never felt it right to complain about Final Bout. Afterall, it's not 'new' and old-looking, it's 'old' and old-looking.

I bought the re-release about a year ago. True, it's in general a sucky game, but there's one thing I like to credit it for: Giving SSj4 a red-orange-ish aura. They kept that in the Budokai series, too. Kinda sets SSj4 apart even more. Me likey.

I saw it in Gamestop a couple weeks ago and almost got it, but I'd heard so many complaints about it on here that I didn't bother. It was a 'special' edition though, it was in a generic cleat 'floppy' cd case with a picture of Goku's head in sharpie on it.

If you learn to use your combos wisely then the game is pretty fun. I suggest when you can find something that comes in a solid case with an actual instruction booklet that you get it.

I bought the new PS1 version, and the adult Gohan sounds a lot like the FUNi one, am I crazy or does someone else notice?

I'll admit it. I'm guilty. I, too, enjoyed Final Bout. I first played it way back in the day ('97, I believe?) when the U.S. version was released. My friend let me borrow it, unaware of the value it would soon hold. I had a blast with the game, and eventually lost it moving into a new house. :( On the plus side, he completely forgot the game ever existed..

I picked up the Japanese version from a mall vendor about four years ago, along with UB22 and Legends. Going through it again, it's definately the low point of the three, but if you don't get too hung-up on graphics, and forgive the slow speed (3D fighters were never blazing-fast back then, anyway), it's pretty entertaining for a while.

And for some reason, Meteos are still a bitch for me to pull off..

1) Adult Gohan: Yes, they sound extremely similar.

2) Meteo: I turn that off in the options when I play.

I remember the joy when my dad brought home a US copy of the game in '98, even though I didn't recognize many of the characters because of I think Cartoon Network was only playing the Android saga by then. But when I put the disk into my blocky, grey Sony PlayStation (god I miss that model) I never came off it.

The game came out in 1997, and if you're talking about the dub, it was only at season two... early Namek.

Personaly, I love this game. I still have the JPN version at home. My friend and i used to train our own characters and put them against each other all the time. My only weakness was pressing triangle to win the beam battle; however, I made up for it by pulling of Meteos. ^_^

The only thing I couldn't stand about Final Bout, was the US release. For one, it was sooo hard to find until 2004; and two, once it was re-released, I was extremly disappointed that they took out "Biggest Fight" as the intro theme. :x

The first time i played Final Bout was back in my country about more then 7 years ago. I played in a home made arcade, and it was awesome. I still remember it as if it were yesterday. It was on the morning of christmas eve, i had about a dollar ( in a home made arcade a dollar can give you about 3 hours of gaming). Well, i was a hardcore fan at the fime so I wanted to play it but alas someone was playing it. I decided to play King of Fighters until the other kids were done playing, but they stayed for 2 hours. When i got my hands on the game, Iwas in awe, it was the intro that got me. I played and i did not care about the gamplay because it was Dragonball, I was able to listen to the japanese voices and almost beat the game. It was a great day. what else can I say but to all that do not like it that it was a first generation playstation game and todays games show the evolution of DB gaming.
I aim to misbehave

For the people that went out of their way to obtain an original North American copy of this game and spent over $250 on it, the re-release pissed us off. All that money for a game that was released for $15 by Atari 3 years after I bought an original. :? Well... I guess it STILL is an original release version. I bought the re-release to see if there were any differences, but there were none. Those Atari douchebags said they translated the Japanese version, but I saw the exact same typos that are in the original North American release. So they lied abouth that... they just copied the original North American release to thousands of CDs. They took no effort whatsoever to correct the typos. Why are these companies so damn lazy?

Short answer: Lazy = Cheap. Lazy means they can re-release a game that wasn't even good the first time around, and sell it based on its notoriety alone.
