Dub and Fansub on VHS: What Do You Do?

On the homepage, under "28 February 2006" it gives some news about those DB eps. 1-13 ... incase you missed.

If we don't get them sometime soon, or it's confirmed we won't get them, maybe someone take on the project. Using the Japanese DVDs, translate/subtitled them, and share them on a bit torrent, or host them. This is only if it's VERY unlikely we'll get them.

That's kind of what Star Wars fans had to do. The original trilogy hasn't even been released on DVD. A LOT of fans want it, but they get the Star Wars SE instead ... with added CGI. Sooo they've taken the laserdisc versions and converted it all to .VOB files so it plays on a burned DVD -/+ R disc. But most would glady buy an official release because they look SO much better.

Anyway, sorry to get off the subject.

I taped most of the Saiyan Saga and season two. The rest I had on videos I bought back then. Main reason, I'm cheap. That's why I kept my dub videos of movie #2 and 4.

Man, I feel cheaper than you.

Mostly because I used to get my mom to buy the blank VHS tapes. Either that, or ask my friend to make copies of his fansubs.

Ripped laserdiscs don't look half as good as dvds. I'm a consistancy freak and just want an official r1 Saga of Goku release. There's no point for someone to do what you say. They were released in r4 and can easily be ripped to a computer but it would be nice to see some Dragonbox quality...but all this ripping is illegal and is destroying the industry. Just look at music stores, I don't even have one 100 miles from me anymore.

Ahh, memories.

A couple years ago (I was maybe 10 or 11) me and my cousins wanted to TP a house but didn't have enough toilet paper. As a a substitute, we untagled some VHF tape from my old Dragonball Z videos and I lost about 10 of them.

I now how have the Bardock Special and Sailor Moon SS The Movie left and I will never throw them out... I <3 them if I must say so.

I've only been a fan for the last year or so. The only fan sub (digisub, actually) I have is a burned VCD of Movie 6. My friend gave this to me a while ago as a present. I liked it. THen I went and rented the real thing from the rental store.

The most old "goodies" I have are a couple of old FUNi-dubbed VHS tapes I wanted for some reason... (In others words, I was dumb)

I was such a youngster in those days, though. TOO young during the good ol' days to know what a fansub was, even. So I guess it's no surprise I have squat!

Good thing times change.

I wasn't saying find dragonball on laserdisc, then convert it, I'm was just talking about fan projects.

To my understanding, you can remove the region coding, but R4 is still PAL, right? And again, from my understanding, if you try playing a PAL DVD on an NTSC TV, you'll lose color/quality.

If it's not available in the states for retail, sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.

Whatever, it was just a thought. Sounds like FUNimation is at least TRYING.

ANYWAY, I'm not going to high jack this thread any further.
