Isn't it also strictly illegal to ask money for something that's based of of a popular series? Or just a series in general?

Yep.

There was a whole discussion on it in the live-action DBZ trailer thread, too.

Anyway, it's for the best. This Absalon thing is garbage.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I wonder how long these kickstarter things will go on for until some laws get layed down. First the trailer, now this thing. What they're doing is illegal, right? I guess it's only a matter of time before this sort of moneymaking goes noticed.

This campaign will only receive funds if at least 10.000€ is raised by Wed 06 Mar 11:59PM PT.

Fortunately but unfortunately I think he isn't going to go all the way with this unless someone helps him or he spans it out for a long time. So many things from episode 1 were from his old sketches from years ago and with that it still didn't come up as a good episode. I feel like I sound like a broken record but such simple things that would have taken not even 5 minutes could have been tweaked such as the volumes of different voices. It is unfortunate because I always find fan projects fun. Its always good to see different perspectives of DBZ even if some are ones people disagree with like power being too focused on which I admit based on the pictures..eh But he could have a cool story and he is definitely doing it because he appreciates the series, not "LETS MAKE MONEY ALL I HAVE TO DO IS SLAP DRAGON BALL Z ON THIS AND THE MONEY WILL FLOW TO ME". I would love to make any type of tribute to the series if i was talented enough to do any of those things... i'll just stick to cosplaying

I think the people who watch DBA don't have the money at the time to donate. I will be nice enough to donate $5, but I personally rather spend my money on other things at the moment.

I could never seeing myself donating to something like that.

Hell, last thing I donated to was a Ronald McDonald House charity thing, held at Thatguywiththeglasses.com And that was only because I was going to get premium content out of the deal.

I think the closet thing I donate to something that was not for charity was for a Kickstarter project that a personal friend of mine did for a film project. If this show did failed then we will never know what happen next. I feel somewhat sad for the people behind the project since they never got to used their ideas after putting in hard work.

Hopefully, this abortion of embarrassing Dragon Ball fan-mythos with shrivel and die after the donation goal is not met. There doesn't seem to actually be any consistency or concrete explanation for all of these random quasi-Super Saiyan forms. Uub and Pan being married with kids made me throw up in my mouth a little...

This "project" is one of the most degrading things that has happened in DB fandom and it's history. Not that this "animator" isn't allowed to post his "art" on the Internet, but to pretend he's done something worthy of money? This "animation" is worse than what a simple 1st grader would do out of boredom. Anyone who is a little bit talented at drawing could make something like this and better in a day or two; but of course any honest talented person wouldn't publish something so awful. Any part of this mess that can be considered even close to decent animation is copied from other animations, from other anime series. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you seriously think something in there is well made, you definitely never drawn, or animated, a single thing in your life. There really are some things you need to qualify for before creating animation, like knowing how to draw, angles, character movement; these are pretty basic for someone who is just simply talented at drawing. This person literally doesn't qualify for any of them. Obviously there are a lot of 12 year old kids who don't know any better and are easily impressed by fancy colors, which is this guy's first objective. Story? Seriously...? At any point during the day on the video there are a bunch of deleted comments; he deletes comments 24/7 that are even slightly critical.

It's really, really depressing when greedy assholes like these do this stuff, and now they're using Dragon Ball to do it, and they get away with it. From the painful comments you can see that it's in a large way feeding off the hate of DBGT. I can't possibly believe how people have this mentality of "this must be good because I hated that!". The same as that "Saiyan Saga" monstrosity. These two things are going to dumb down this fandom for an entire generation.

Maybe this doesn't even deserve such a long commentary, but I feel like an insane amount of me has died reading the comments on that video. This is just... Jesus Christ. I just hope that guy comes out to say that it was all a joke to point out how insanely naive the majority in this fandom are, or something.

Having finally gotten brave enough to watch some of this... the animation effort is admirable, but it's gone to waste on the material. It's all just more AF-esque fanwank nonsense. More EXTREEEME-design Super Saiyan forms, more grungy villains, past characters coming back for no reason, etc... Even GT still had some amount of that DragonBall charm, but this completely lacks it.

Yeah, whenever I see Dragon Ball fan stuff that's too hardcore and lacking that special charm, it always comes off as really pretentious or tasteless. Or both.

I agree. As much as I justifiably rag on GT, it had the decency to limit itself to one more Super Saiyan form and at least feels has some of the Dragon Ball feel. This... doesn't.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

While the animation is pretty bad by professional standards it's still pretty much Akira and The Lion King by fan made animation for the internet standards. Though I do fail to see how they would needthat much money.
