Is Episode of Bardock Canon?

Post by Black_Liger » Fri Mar 08, 2013 11:56 pm

It may be a truly stupid question, but does it?. Bardock's Transformation is my favorite in the whole series, especially for it's music!. So is it?

That's for you to decide. There is no official canon in the Dragon Ball world. I don't think it's canon but that's just me.

Like TheMightyOzaru said, there is no clearly defined, actually sanctioned 'canon' for Dragon Ball. So really, you can count whatever you want as 'canon' in your mind - though obviously, some things are going to fit a lot more smoothly than others.

I'm still not really sure if I want to count it or not myself. I enjoy it well enough for what it is, but...

As said (like a broken record by now), Dragon Ball doesn't have a defined canon; so it can be if you want it to. As for continuity, it fits within the timeline. There are a couple of inconsistencies, but none are any worse than what we see elsewhere, including the manga itself.

Agreed! I consider it a ''What If'' type of special.

Most people view the manga as canon since it came out first and it's the original source material. I guess it could fit into the manga since the alien race on Planet Plant are much different then we saw in the anime. In the anime Tsufurujin exist on Planet Plant while the manga never stated who lived on Planet Plant before the Saiyajin came from what I can remember. I think due to the nature of time travel that the Episode of Bardock would technically take place in an alternate timeline. If you change the past then a new timeline is born.

Thanks for the replies, I will think of it as canon in my heart. I guess that's what makes db such a great thing, it's what you make out of it, be it the movies, be it the specials or what if stories. It's wonderful when you think about it. it's what a true fantasy story is like.

And that's exactly the kind of attitude you should have! :D Don't let anyone tell you what you can and cannot like, or what is or what's not cannon. like some people hate filler and do not consider it ''Cannon'' but the Driving scene with Piccolo and Goku is priceless :P and filler doesn't really bother me so it's my own personal preference.

I certainly hope not. It's f***ing terrible and makes a mess of everything it touches. Complete BS.

It's up to you, but I don't as Rocketman and penguintruth say, it's pretty borderline terrible. I hope they don't try to incorporate it into the canon.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I feel like sometimes that not everything can be view as canon even if you want too. Something like Cross Epoch can't view as canon to both franchises since it's a crossover.

As long as the idea of infinite alternate universes exists, you can throw pretty much anything into that category. Somewhere in all of DB existence the Cross Epoch universe can easily exist, in the exact same way Trunks' future world exists.

There literally is no need for this canon concept to exist anymore, and there never was. Please, let's all stop using this confusing, unholy damned word once and for all.

I'm tempted to have a word filter put in that changes all instances of "canon" to "holy writ" (and "cannon" to "heavy artillery").

Daizenshuu 2 & 4 cover exclusively the manga. Chozenshuu 1 is a combined re-print of Daizenshuu 2 & 4, plus information about recent manga releases (Neko Majin, Kanzenban, Dr. Mashirito & Abale-chan, Episode of Bardock). Meaning that we have a manga guidebook covering Episode of Bardock. Take that as you will.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

To me, with the whole "New Dragon World" thing, it seems more like they consider whatever they covered as one story. But like I said, take that as you will.

And yet many people view Dr Slump and Neko Majin as canon. There's just no official concept of a canon and it's for anyone to decide.
