Any future Dragon Box releases in NA?

Post by Tullece » Sun Mar 10, 2013 1:19 am

Does anybody know if Funimation plans on releasing the other Dragon Boxes(movies, original DB series, DBGT) in NA?

I think all we know is that they have the footage of the Movies from Toei and that they once said they plan of releasing "Dragon Ball" (1st anime) again by 2013. As of right now, we just gotta wait...

Why they have the movies DBox footage but won't release it is beyond me. Why bother buying it in the first place if you're not going to release it? Such a waste of money (and time!), apparently...

They could be waiting until Toei let them have the jump special and the other few specials that are only in Japan at the moment to give us a super Dragon Box Explosion.
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

It's also possible they want to wait and release the movies right before Battle of Gods comes out in the U.S. to commemorate the movie's (assumed) theatrical release.

I guess it will should be out one day. It took six years for the DBZ boxes to come here in the US. I think they once are release here in the US then they should be worth it.

To be faithful to each Dragon Box collection they should only have what they originally featured.

Episode of Bardock isn't part of any of Dragon Box collections so it wouldn't be right to stick it in with the rest, for example.

I agree but they could do the box with a bonus case packaged outside the Dragon Box but inside the shrinkwrap, like poundland do over in the UK with old films, they get two or three movies that originally sold sperately in their packing with their barcodes and then they put them together, shrink wrap them and put a sticker barcode on the outside.

I'd be happy if that's how they released the Trunks and Bardock specials. Even though they weren't released in theaters.

Well, this was released with the Dragon Box Z Dragon Ball Z series through Volume 1 and Volume 2, unfortunately the FUNimation edition didn't come with either one. Still, a lot cheaper than purchasing the Japanese Dragon Box Z, at least for those that got them before they went out of print.

Should I get the DBGT remastered complete series box set or do you guys think there is a chance that funi will release the Dragon Box version?

The FUNimation DBGT Singles were a bit like the Dragon Box GT, because they included the original Next Episode Previews with Japanese audio, but as for the English dub, only with Menza's US replacement music. Ah, and Japanese text on the OP/ED, instead of translated English.

Not sure if the DBGT TV-Special was included with some volume or sold separately (it is available as such).

Get it. I seriously doubt we will ever get a DBGT Dragon Box. This is why I recently picked it up.

Waiting for the Z movies and the original "Dragon Ball" anime in Dragon Box form is different, which is actually what I'm doing. The blue bricks and movie packs will always be there if and when I decide to buy them. I'm only holding out for the rest of this year to see what Funi does. If by this x-mas there are no Dragon Boxes or plans for more, Ill get them for sure, and then I would have the entire anime.

BTW, I still support Funimation and the anime industry through purchases of other animes, like One Piece. I buy new!

I would search for the singles (funi) cuz that will most likely be the last dbox they'll release if they even do

Does that all come with the remastered complete series box set? and how is the picture quality, is it as bad as the DBZ remastered sets?

The Season Sets don't have the previews, or the Japanese titles/credits. Season 2 has the TV special. The quality isn't terrible, but it is kinda blurry in most episodes (the evil dragon arc seems a bit sharper than most) and the singles look like the Dragon Boxes, minus being interlaced, still having some film damage, and some macroblocking. In stills it looks nearly identical.

Basically, if you're in it for the dub with Japanese music, get the Season Sets, and if it's for the Japanese version, get the single DVDs.

Do the singles use the remade logo in the intro? I have the first season set and was surprised that they replaced the logo in the actual show (not just on the packaging). It looks almost the same as the original, so it's very odd that they changed it at all, but the new one is uglier and looks out of place.

What you'd get from the DBGT Singles, would be this:

Screenshots from: Dragon Ball GT - Affliction

I forgot to take screenshots of the ED and NEP, but they're there, these ones should make you confident on your decision on whether you're getting the DBGT Singles or Season Sets (or the newer "Complete Series" the season sets in one box).

Those look so good... :( Really tempts me to get these even though I have the Season Sets (though I could get these for the better Japanese presentation).

How's the encoding? Ever noticed tons of macroblocking like some people have reported in the past?
