Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

I'm kinda disappointed, if not unsurprised, that people keep asking about strength stuff .

How about... ya' know... everything else? Did the characters feel "in-character" throughout the whole movie? Was the acting up to snuff? Was the musical score appropriate and/or beneficial to the overall experience? Were the gags actually funny? Did the story feel well-thought-out? Did these extra revelations / quasi-retcons feel consistent with the rest of the world?

Not everyone looks at Dragon Ball the same way. Power scaling is just as entertaining as character and story to some. Plus I'm not worried about staying in character because when have they ever broken character? However I would like these questions answered, they are just as important.

Super Saiyan God is a legendary form that needs the power of six pure hearted Saiyans. Super Saiyan God once appeared on planet Vegeta to stop bad Saiyans, but he failed because of the form's time limit.

In my opinion that's a terrible background story... At that time, wouldn't SSG have been like, more power than all the planets inhabitants combined to the power of a thousand? Unless the time limit is like, half a minute he shoulda had plenty of time to stop bad saiyans.

All the characters feel "in-character". The acting was astonishingly good. It's better than Kai. The score.. well, works. The whole movie was full of Toriyama like gags which are actually funny. The story is so-so. As for consistency I need more time to determine it.

By the way, the animation in the fight scenes was awesome.

I really don't get it. Pilaf wishes for youth. Since Shenlong can grant 3 wishes (2 if one of them is to revive a lot of people) why didn't he ask for world domination using the other wishes?

I'm actually surprised that the picture off of the Toei door really was Super Saiyan God. It's going to be cool to see Goku in his 'base' form, design-wise at least, kicking some major butt yet again...but that just seems like something the marketing department wouldn't have wanted. It's going to be hard to sell a figure that looks roughly like normal Goku to people that already have a crapton of figures I'd think.

Vegeta temporarily surpassing Goku in a rage is pretty nice too, that sounds like a great moment.

I don't know what to think about how Pilaf's crew became young again. It's hilarious, but that is gonna make some parts of GT harder to work with. I can hear Kaboom pulling his hair out already.

As for how Super Saiyan God comes into being...I'm kinda...ehhhh...I'm sure it works better when we actually get to see it happening, but the whole idea just seems a little...cliche. I do like that the form isn't particularly permanent though, but what do you mean kei that he 'learns it's feeling and can use it's power'?

The one part of the Super Saiyan God's formation that I'm loving though is PAN. YES. THEY DID DO SOMETHING TO INVOLVE HER. HELL YES.

I can only think of one question to add to the mix right now - how is the pacing of the film? Does it make good use of it's 85 minute run time, since we've never had one that long before?

Yeah, that's strange. In the movie, Shenlong disappears after granting one wish.

Speaking of Uisu, he doesn't fight at all, but at the end Birusu reveals that Uisu is his martial arts master and stronger than him.

I guess it works like Old Kaioshin's unlocking ability, only that Goku can use the Super Saiyan transformations on top of it. Kei, can you confirm? xD

And yeah, I could see it listing her as his wife just to keep any young, questioning hands out of the air...but at the same time, I do imagine Gohan to be more of a 'do it right' type. I can go either way.
