Yeah SSJ God was handled fairly poorly.MagicBox wrote:So based on what Kei's told us, I've got conflicting feelings.
What I like (so far):
- The movie seems to be both funny and action-packed (and even a little touching).
- Videl being pregnant with baby Pan!
- Super Saiyan God is just a minor power-up and isn't anything like the over-the-top AF designs we've seen.
- Goku doesn't win. Hell, none of the heroes win. Very innovative for the Shonen genre and a nice change from the norm.
What I dislike (so far):
- Everything about Super Saiyan God just sounds like lame storytelling. "Yeah, it's a limited form, but once you know what the power feels like, you can tap into it whenever! Oh, and you need to gather six Saiyans together! For some reason! And a recently-conceived baby totally counts! Oh, and Gohan is allowed to be a Super Saiyan for this scene only."
- Apparently nobody really gets a chance to shine (in fight scenes or otherwise), aside from being swatted away with one blow.
- Some of the character designs aren't entirely consistent with when this movie is supposed to take place (but I'm nitpicking).
Couldn't care less about power comparisons as long as everybody is in-character and entertaining.
I'd love to know if any of the characters not included in the voice cast list (Chaozu, Kaioshin, etc.) speak, but other than that, I'm happy just reading whatever Kei's willing to confirm. I feel bad putting all of the spoiler-duties on one poor guy.

Its an awesome action show I like to watch, and there's supposed to be some stuff that makes you cringe or go 'damn, that's fucked up' just like, once in a fucking while, it was at least one of the puzzle pieces that made Dragon Ball Z so great in my opinion, and same with a lot of fucking people! Hell, people were so upset about Kai editing one fucking 2 second scene with Raditz's death that they refused to watch it, I think Kai is 100x better than DBZ in my honest opinion, but if they had censored all the blood? Then FUCK THAT, no, it IS part of the show, and future stuff should follow the standards set by what we are already huge fans of. If a potential new Dragon Ball anime is not brutal in the slightest, yeah I will be greatly disappointed, and probably not watch it with my dad like I did with DBZ, unless the story blows me away like Fullmetal Alchemist, oh wait that had plenty of blood, and it was completely necessary, just like it is in this shonen about hardcore fights. It just is, like honestly, stop being morons.worldmonsters wrote:And dammit I want less character development and story! There's far too much in this movie O__O At least GT knew what it was doing! Heh, I was gonna post to say we should probably stop bombarding Kei with questions so he could finish the summary (which would probably answer most of our questions anyway), but it seems he already decided to do that!
The part I'm having the most trouble accepting is the fact that the kids haven't aged enough for this movie to be taking place 5 years after the Boo saga, but I guess it could just be the evolution of Toriyama's style. The characters have kind of looked rounder and younger in artwork from recent years, so maybe when they designed the kids for this movie, this is what young teens ended up looking like in the newer style (even though we already saw (future) Trunks as a young teen in the Trunks special, and he certainly looked older than that :/). But if it's a stylistic choice, I can get over it (kind of like how the main character of Gravitation went from looking like an 18-year-old boy at the beginning of the series to a 12-year-old girl by the end...the author's style changed, and if that's her thing then OK, whatever). If it's sloppy plotting, like they made the assumption that Pan was born just a couple years after the Boo saga instead of consulting the daizenshuu and looking at the actual year of her birth, then I might be a little less forgiving.
VegettoEX brought up a point that was kind of glossed over between all the questions about "who is the strongest?!?!" and "tell us about the gags!" (I'm guilty of the latter!) Gokuu doesn't win the battle, which to me feels very Toriyama-esque. We have this new movie after all theses years, everyone expects Gokuu to blow the villain away, and...he doesn't. Brilliant. It reminds me of a Toriyama interview from way back when he said that everyone was expecting Gokuu to win the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai, so Toriyama responded by having him lose...and then did it again for the 22nd tournament! I think the fact that Gokuu loses may be the reason they said this movie would "violate the common sense of Z"!

Show me a document stating that was the intended audience throughout its entire run, Dragon Ball was more innocent but DBZ was definitely darker and more brutal, I'm under the impression it grew with its audience. Fullmetal Alchemist has an extremely complex plot with abundant adult themes about genocide, death, war, what it means to be human, the value of life, even fatherhood, etc, and that falls within the same demographic title as the Dragon Ball franchise.worldmonsters wrote:The show is aimed at 5-year olds. Actually, the show is aimed at 12 year olds and above, like every shonen series.

kei17 wrote:I once said the score "worked" at least, but I didn't mean it's just okayish. It's clearly better than the Yamamoto score in Kai. Especially, the piece plays in the scene when Goku transforms into SSJG was awesome. No offence to Yamamoto fans, but now I think it's good that it wasn't him.
The karaoke image only lasts a few seconds, so it's not his most memorable moment. It would be... when he fights Birusu, but falls unconscious with his few jab with a finger, I guess.Michsi wrote:Didn't want to add to the onslaught of questions, but I can't help but wonder what you meant when you said that about Piccolo's only significant moment being one still image. Did you mean that the Karaoke scene was only one still image and that was his most memorable moment in the movie or was it something else?
I'm glad you think the soundtrack is better than Kai's! Do you think it's better than takaki's? Boy I can't wait to see it, Visually it's sounding great, I'm still worried about the music xD.

Alright 12. That's fine. But it's aimed at kids.
Also I think Fullmetal Alchemist was aimed at slightly older kids (but still kids). And the comparison is very different. Fullmetal Alchemist actually has some very adult themes like sacrifice and other stuff that Dragon Ball is way too kiddie for. Babies being stillborn and then being revived and ending up all messed up. Yeah, that's a show that's actually pretty dark. And of course don't forget the very nature of Fullmetal is different than Dragon Ball in that FMA is a product that the story was laid out before the start and Dragon Ball had its story develop completely on the fly. FMA is a VERY different show to Dragon Ball and both are for kids, but FMA is DEFINETELY for older kids.

Do we know if Bra was at the party? If so, I wonder why she wasn't one of the Saiyajins to help Son Goku transform.

I agree! I love the fact that Goku doesn't win, and why should he anyway? Because he's supposed to be the strongest? To be honest when I was 5 years old I had already completed the first two Zelda games. As have a lot of other people I know my age, so I think it's safe to say a 5 year old clearly knows whats going on in any DBZ episode if they watch it enough. What 5 year old would understand what's going on.

I, and just about everyone else here on this thread are extremely grateful to hear all of you're details on the movie. I too have a question (and it's not strength related either
Where exactly does the the HERO insert song fall in place with the movie? During the climactic SSJG transformation? Or any other time when Goku battles Birisu?

12 year olds can handle violent content, in fact they thrive in violent shit, its interesting to them, I played stuff like Quake III arena when I was like 7. I can accept this movie being bloodless, I guess they had to cut down on dark content to get the G rating which probably allowed them to pump money into CGI and stuff, but in a future series I'll get tired of seeing bloodless fights.
