Preference on Trunks

Post by Sin » Wed Mar 13, 2013 8:39 am

I was thinking recently, and this has probably been brought up a lot, but which Trunks is everyone's favorite? For me I always loved Future Trunks and his whole story as well as how he acted, and then seeing Trunks from the main timeline grow up I was disappointed and never really liked the character. By the time it got to GT I think I liked GT Trunks a little better than Z Trunks but still nowhere near as much as Future Trunks.

In fact I often picture Future Trunks meeting Z Trunks in my head and himself being disappointed at what a brat he turned out to be, I dunno maybe he'd be glad that he is just a normal kid.

When people say Trunks I instantly picture Future Trunks in my head, which version do you think of?

Well, the Future Trunks. He was the first one I saw. I only say Trunks.

Mirai Trunks no contest.

Future Trunks is definitely the one with a deeper and more engrossing story, so he's the better character probably...but as to who I enjoy the most, I'd say probably young Trunks. All of the stuff with him and Goten getting into trouble always cracked me up.

Future/Mirai. I'd be surprised if someone said otherwise.

I don't understand the hate for present Trunks. It's not his fault the world didn't have to be in his hands. His future self changed all that. So he lived in peace. Also, Trunks was 7 when he went Super Saiyajin, through training I believe so, unless he got really pissed off one day because Vegeta didn't take him to the park and then let out all his anger and finally went Super Saiyajin. Lol. Future Trunks did it when he was 13. So it took him a while, even with Future Gohan training him.

They're both different. One is traumatized because of his life with the Androids and one is completely happy and full of excitement. I always enjoyed both, but present young Trunks more. He and Goten were so funny. Strong. Smart at times, when they tried to compete in the adult tournament. The Gotenks era was too funny. Piccolo being dissapointed and his face expressions always make me laugh so hard.

Honestly. I only liked Mirai Trunks when he first appeared, and then when he returned to his timeline. During the Andriod/Cell games sagas he was very.... whiny.

True he kinda went a little downhill, but pick up towards the end. I loved him when he fought Perfect Cell. But after a while he got whiny and then better when he was saving the future. Still he is better then the other versions of him.

Chibi Trunks, to be honest. I like his enthusiasm, even if he is a little jerk.

Future Trunks is awesome at first, but he's more of a plot device than a character.

I actually kind of agree, he did lose character after awhile in the same way Kaioshin did.. But just watching his earlier episodes, as well as the special and the end of the Cell arc, makes me appreciate him a lot more. He is one of the deepest characters in the franchise if you ask me.

Future Trunks at least was an actual character. Kid Trunks basically doesn't exist without Goten (and vice versa). Even before they fused as Gotenks, they were pretty much inseparable.

I like main timeline Trunks a little more. He's less serious than his alt. timeline counterpart but can still play a good "straight man" character (like it GT). Mirai Trunks, while I like him, is a little too...removed.

Take into consideration that Mirai Trunks was only present during the most serious part of the series so we really didn't get to see that version shine in the normal world (like Gohan, for example).

Future Trunks. His character is explored more and he of course has a much deeper story to the Trunks from the present story line.

When Future Trunks first showed up in front of Frieza... maaaan. I just thought he was extremely cool.

I like both, but Present Trunks has a more relaxed temper and is pretty cool, the kind of friend we like.
He has the "I'm a badass" attitude of Future Trunks (as in Future Trunks VS Freezer for example), but coupled with the cheerfulness and carelessness Future Trunks couldn't have given his hellish life.
Future Trunks is the stylish "no-nonsense badass", but you wouldn't have so much fun with him in everyday life, he's more the kind of guy sitting at the table and quietly listening to the conversations without talking much at all. Always quiet and behaving like a responsible adult at all times.
With Present Trunks, there wouldn't be much sitting and listening to others all evening, you'd go around, find some stuff to do, find some project-of-the-moment to undertake, laugh with good jokes...

I guess if you had to turn them into real-life shows, Future Trunks would be CSI, Present Trunks would be How I Met Your Mother: pick the mood you prefer to be entertained everyday, serious and all about the job all the time or crazy-joking around with new crazy ideas everyday. 8)

Present Trunks, although I'm not terribly fond of him. Future Trunks is just annoying to me, partially because his inexperience makes him do or say irritating things.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Definitely Trunks in GT. Future Trunks can be irritating at times, and chibi Trunks is a bit of a brat (if a funny brat, though), but GT Trunks is relatable. I mean, that's why he's part of the core GT crew of Goku, Pan, and Trunks. Trunks is the every-man. A poor sap who's tired of his job and wants more out of life, and then gets sent on an adventure by his demanding parents only to find he's in over his head. As GT goes on, he's quickly regulated to background status, serving no more to the plot than Oolong... but I still remember those early episodes. And GT Trunks, I like ya kid.

Well, Future Trunks is my all-time favourite DB character so that pretty much explains my position right off the bat, mostly because I can relate to him in having that polite, quiet but secretly a badass personality with a noble cause to boot. Not to mention he kills arguably the main villain of the series, while also through time travel madness introduces the next villain(s) for the next arc, how many characters can pull that off in fiction let alone the whole trilogy?

I can certain certainly still see the love for present Trunks, I'm pretty sure we were all similar to him in some ways at that age, being a Super Saiyan as well creates an interesting illustration of how a kid would actually act with that kind of power which is something I think Toriyama should of played with more. Along with the contrast of his future counterpart's brooding seriousness and his goofiness is also something I wish was explored a little better, I think he really got the shaft in terms of development no thanks to the introduction of Gotenks. His GT self redeems him a little but even then it's only for a short period, it seems in general everyone didn't know what to do with him.
