Where's it from? I don't have my kanji book w/me atm, but I do see "manga" pop up multiple times. Sure it's not just an "About Dragon Ball" mini-summary of its available releases? I don't see any of DB's characters' names so I don't think it's a plot summary.

OH! The following is a guess, but maybe it's about the chozenshuu?

You mean the part where it says "Dragon Ball"? The rest of the text would be handy because that segment doesn't say much at all.

It says that two or three years ago (from that interview), there was some talk (at Weekly Jump, I suppose) about asking Akira Toriyama for more Dragon Ball (?) but...

I'm assuming the editor is saying someone at Weekly Jump wanted new stories about Dragon Ball from Akira Toriyam but he didn't think it was a good idea (in the previous paragraph he was saying he though that sequels, renewals and such shouldn't be done in Weekly Jump). Basically, Dragon Ball is used as an example. It isn't the main topic at all.

That's an interview with Masahiko Ibaraki, the chief editor of Square Jump, in which he says that there once was a plan of a sequel of Dragon Ball, but it was canceled. Incidentally the image is from one of the BoG threads on 2ch.

I feel like it got cancelled since Toriyama probably got sick of working on Dragon Ball at that time and Toei probably had GT planned for a while, they asked him for some small input and he saw it as win-win so he wouldn't have to do any more serialization. That's my theory, haha.

That's....really interesting All this time I was pretty sure that an honest, non-spin off, direct sequel to the manga was close to impossible but here I find out that there were actually planning one once. Of course, I am assuming Toriyama himself would have only added a few ideas here and there and the artist would be someone else, but it's still nice to know they were at least considering it.

I can't even decide if I am happy or dissapointed that it was cancelled.

Out of curiosity, when does this interview take place or better yet, does it let us know when this sequel was suppoed to take place? If it was meant to appread in Square Jump it must have been fairly recent , after 2007. What I also find intersting is that Jump Square, at least according to Wiki, targets readers in their late teens/early twenties and I had the impression that DB now is trying to cater to a younger audience.

There was no opening. The title logo appears, a very short version of Head-Cha-La plays, that's it.

Why is the video blocked in Japan by the way? It says FUNimation owns it, but from what I know, they block videos that are detected automatically by a program that uses the original videos given by the right holders. Has FUNi licensed 2008 special?
