Tell my about it. I was literally drawn right into the action as soon as i turned the page. Ill admit, I was iffy about the energy attack colors, but the yellow makes it more dynamic. I also love the color changes like gohans hat colors, bulmas hair color etc. it looks naturaleledoremassis02 wrote:GREAT NEWS!! It's an overall really highquality releaseI agree fully. I do have a question though. Is there a reason they decided to change the color of the energy attacks? I understand why everything else was changed so it can somewhat be closer to Toryiyamas work. However I have to know.

You mean compared to the original manga's white or compared to the anime versions?Relentless Saiyan72 wrote: I do have a question though. If it's compared to the original, my bet is that they wanted special attacks to look more impressive than plain white, especially for a color edition.
If it's compared to the anime, it was likely because they started the digital coloring of early Dragon Ball by not being prisonners of the anime's vision and reimagining things. And to them, the concept of Goku and Kame Sennin's Kame Hame Ha was to be depicted as more of a fire beam, having yellow and red surroundings. Eventually, when proceeding to do the rest of the series - meaning everything beyond Pilaf -, they chose to keep the yellow part of that fiery design and make the energy golden, possibly because that's how it looks either more logical or more impressive-to-the-eye for the staff.

No chapter title page from Viz this week. Color me annoyed. I was hoping we'd be able to get everything in this digital release.
I'm hoping this doesn't become a trend.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
I got my three volumes in this weekend, and while I have only had time to read through Volume 1, I can say I am overjoyed with my purchase. As others have attested, the paper quality and overall presentation is spectacular - although the complete absence of title pages, or indications of chapter breaks, is a tad annoying - and I am just really, really impressed by the work done giving the series color. It looks gorgeous, on every page, and while I do not believe every color decision works - the random colors picked to fill in white backgrounds on panels of characters existing in a sort of 'other,' non-specific setting are sometimes distracting - the project is obviously a labor of love, one that I find very impressive considering all this color work was done a good two decades or more after the fact. The coloring work does not replace or overshadow the original, black-and-white versions for me - those are equally impressive in very different ways - but I am glad to have these color volumes as a beautiful supplement to the original artwork.
These books are also - it must be noted for anyone on the fence - a ridiculously good deal. For the Saiya-jin arc, those importing will pay only 1800 yen (about 20 dollars) for 750 pages of full-color comics, on high-quality paper. Good luck trying to find 750 pages of color comics in America for less than a few hundred dollars. And on CD Japan, I was able to ship them via SAL for less than 10 dollars, so I could not be happier with the overall price point!
As with others here, I am very excited for the Freeza arc and beyond. I have not had the pleasure of owning the manga in Japanese before, but this seems like an easy and exciting way to at least get the Z-era story arcs in print! I really, really hope they double back and do the original Dragon Ball volumes as well!

Amazing how much it looks like the anime.
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Ah-hah!
It seems already that Freezer and Ghourd (therefore probably the whole Ginyu Commando), have their manga colors as opposed to the anime ones!

It looks great, can't wait.
I really hope Viz starts selling them soon even if it is online only. Also looks like we got the covers of the SD tankōbon and BoG animanga.

There no difference between anime and manga colors for those characters.Cold Skin wrote:Ah-hah!

Also, as already stated, there is no real "manga" color as Toriyama regularly changed the colors of his characters during the run of DB.
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Sorry, but Toriyama has most often drawn Freezer - including in the Kanzenban covers - with pink skin and all-white "wristles" (some rare times white skin, but never purple skin like the anime) and has never drawn Ghourd has yellowish-green like the anime but as actually very-green green.JeffJarrett wrote:There no difference between anime and manga colors for those characters.Cold Skin wrote:Ah-hah!

Toriyama changed colors a lot, but some colors chosen by Toriyama that keep coming back 99% of the time are obvious, like Bulma's purple hair.
Colors used by Toriyama and never used by the anime, would be "manga colors" or "Toriyama colors" if you want to be specific since they were sometimes used in artworks and not the actual manga.
Freezer and Ghourd don't use the anime colors here, but Toriyama's colors.

So the "official movie guide" is confirmed for this coming week, then.
I think "Battle of Gods" is going to kill me from overwork.
...And wait, what's this about a "Double Dragon Talk" in this coming week's V-Jump? Another interview?

Just count your lucky stars you can get it at all, I'm in the UK and they wont let me download the app, so I can't give them my money to attempt reading the manga since I can't stand it in black and whiteMagicBox wrote:No chapter title page from Viz this week. DinoChow's review up there says the books don't have title pages either, so I guess it's Shueisha and not Viz holding out?
