But it wasn't a separate faorm back then, it was just Super Saiyan Gohan when angry.
It was another form beyond Super Saiyan. When Goku died, Gohan reverted to Super Saiyan, and when Cell came back, he powered up up into Super Saiyan 2 again. There were big changes in Gohan's appearance (new hairstyle, sharper eyes, new aura with sparks), and even Cell noted the change. Even the Trunks Special (which came out 20 days after the conclusion of Cell arc) treated it like another Grade form.
Well grades are grades, not a completely different and stage of transformation. But we're kinda just debating semantics here.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I as much as any one else would love that but remember, Toriyama wrote or at least tried to write the ending of DBZ in way to sort of trick us into believing that the story would continue. Even though we ended up getting GT anyway, I guess its fifty fifty, the vibe I get from BoG is that it ends in sort of a cliff hanger type of way in that theres room for a continuation but it can also be left as it is.
12 Gods?! Will make for one Hell of a gauntlet if we get a sequel. I wonder if it was intentional (Twelve Olympians, Twelve Gods of Destruction).

It's just that they chose Goku this time. At the end, Vegeta says that he will be SSJG next time.
Ninja Murasaki wrote:Do the other Z-Fighters(Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha, ETC) get any fights or good scenes?
Sadly, they don't. Everyone gets knocked out with single attack. Especially Yamcha does almost nothing in the movie.
Oh come on, seriously? Is Yamcha literally blacklisted from getting to do anything? This is getting silly at this point...guess it would take more edits than I had hoped to make an epic Yamcha/Bubsy fight.

Still, that aside, I'm pumped for the movie. I really can't wait for Funi to dub this badboy and sell me a bilingual DVD/Blu Ray of it. Sadly though, several of my friends have decided that SSJG being lame to them ruins the movie for them entirely and have no interest...this saddens me. Half the fun of movies like these are shooting the proverbial shit with friends after a viewing.

I hope if there are sequels, they might lead us to after Z. Plenty of material to cover there.

I know it'sa big favor to ask, but could anyone translate bottom of this page for me?

It says something about a QR Code for Bills in Heroes: Ultimate Mission for 3DS. I want to know where it will be and how to get it.

Maybe SSG is supposed to look weak on purpose, why else would they make Goku thinner? Bills also has an ironically thin and malnourished design, maybe its a theme with godlike power.

This is the best transformation EVER! 8)

I'm really happy with the result, they perfectly got what a stylish super-transformation should be: not turning into somebody else, just the regular character + minor tweaks to show added power (like Devil May Cry 4's nero: just a blue aura, red eyes, distorded voice, and THAT'S IT, you can still recognize the base character, but with a feeling of super-power thanks to those minor tweaks).
The basic character being enhanced, that's it.

And those are incredibly well-chosen added features: the hair color is just unusual and perfect to add charisma to Goku, borrowing to the promo hero of Dragon Ball Online or the hero of Chrono Trigger (although the latter has much redder hair). The eyes being that of Super Saiyan 3 but in red is just great to show some kind of some "should be way too strong for my human body" entity coming from the inside (Naruto much?).

That picture of Goku from the side!! Just look at him, it's the Goku we've all known, but just ten times better, you've got the feeling of habit as if looking at the base Goku we've known since he was a child, and then you've got the sense of novelty as if watching a cool character for a whole new manga by Toriyama.

I'm really excited by this form that finally goes back to Goku's roots instead of transforming him further and further away from what he's supposed to be, until you don't even recognize him anymore (yes Super Saiyan 4, I'm talking about you and your absurd "who's-this-guy-again?" design).
There, we have what Goku as a God should be: just regular Goku, enhanced to have extra charisma. 8)
Oh, and that beautiful flame aura. And that superb color of faded purple-red hair! And that side-picture I would use as my desktop background if there was a high quality version of it!!

Overall, it's in the same league as Gohan being infinitely more stylish and powerful-looking once he went through the Ancestral Kaio Shin ritual with just minor physical traits changed to enhance his charisma rather than a super-uber physical-changing transformation.
Clearly the best of Goku's transformations ever, blowing a wind of fresh air on the franchise's main hero! 8) I don't mind the fact that it's just temporary (since Goku accesses the power without having the actual form then), it only makes this appearance all-the-more unique and rare, "collector" somehow!

But it's going to be hard to include in video games, since it's a one-time form that Goku can only access on this one ritual occasion before being able to tap into its power on more regular forms.
Given its access conditions, I doubt you'll suddenly be able to turn Super Saiyan God in the middle of the fight as if it was just another regular form.

Trunks has blue hair on that poster too.
It is weird that they were apparently going for a blue-haired Trunks given all the promo shots with blue hair, but in the movie, it seems his hair is the usual purple.

Then again, it was actually weird from the anime to make Trunks purple-haired when he's supposed to have his mother's hair and they made her blue-haired. Then Gotenks would have had partially blue hair too.
It would have been more logical since when you look at Trunks or Gotenks, you're supposed to be reminded at all times that he has a part of the Bulma you've always known throughout the series in him, you're supposed to always see a partial reincarnation of Bulma as a boy if one may say.

Maybe they were afraid of fans' backlash. It would have made more sense to have him blue-haired, but it would have brought an inconsistency and an unusual aspect to him that's not wanted when you're supposed to be familiar with the character by now.

Hmm... I want so say I dislike SSJ God but I really don't. It's not as much Super Saiyaken as I thought it was going to be. It's really interesting.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

The only thing I don't like about it is the Red. I like red and all, but it doesn't scream godly to me.

Unless they explain that Birusu's Destruction God aura corrupted Goku's aura or something.

I wonder if SSJ God being thinner is why we've been seeing Toriyama drawing Goku thinner lately? Or (more likely, I think) they decided to make SSJ God thinner BECAUSE Toriyama was just naturally drawing Goku like that these days...

Or maybe it's just a big coincidence!

I don't know, we tend to associate blue and white with the sky/God/angels and red with evil/blood/hell in western culture, I guess.
I guess if you had to choose blue and red to associate with a hero and a villain, most western people would make the hero blue, the bad guy red.

I don't know enough about Japanese or more generally eastern culture, so take what I say as a simple hypothesis.
But it seems to me that too them, orange/red colors might be able to be associated with something good while blue colors might be able to be associated with something evil, or less good.
Warm colors would essentially be good, and cold colors would essentially be more like bad or something, or at least not as good.
But I don't know, it's just assumption based on the reccurent scheme of good guys wearing orange/red (Son Goku, Naruto, Luffy, Toriko, Dante) while the darker, semi-evil character/rival wears blue (Vegeta, Sasuke, Vergil).

All of this to say, based on pure hypothesis: I think red may be potentially considered like warmer, and therefore good, and then fit for a Godly hero.
But maybe it's also just to enhance Goku's heroic side by pushing his trademark orange color with more extremely warm colors, adding various tints of red on his hair and eyes?

Anyway, I think all of this is a bit farfetched and that they (Toriyama and the staff) don't pick colors according to some sort of theory on what's potentially good or bad, but simply by what looks or conveys a certain impression.
And you can find plenty of examples in anime of people/things being represented with cold colors and being good (Genki Dama) or represented as red and being bad.
But it might be a possibility that we are much more biased "blue=good/angels", "red=bad/evil" and that's it!

I personnally don't see the extra red tints on Goku as un-Godly myself.
I do like this a lot more than Kaioken though, which I always found quite ugly with the whole body going red (except in the full color manga where it's quite beautiful for some reason)!!

I like the way SSJGod looks, if anything I can't wait to see the YouTube comments when they find out that 1. Vegeta doesn't go SSJ3, 2.Gogeta doesnt appear at all and 3. SSJGod isn't that Gold SSJ4 recolor bullshit. Mind you I love SSJ4 but I DID NOT like that early fan art of SSJGod, it screamed cliche. I think that design works for an AF idea like SSJ6 or something but not Super Saiyan God.

Funny enough it's funny how the God form/status completely ignores everything we've come to know about Super Saiyans, the hair isn't yellow for one, it doesn't even stand up on end, there's no yellow aura or sparks or even blue eyes or a muscle build for that matter in fact he gets thinner the complete opposite.

I need more insite on that question to Toriyama about the SSJ forms. Did he really forget SSJ2 and 3?! What was the question that was asked?
It's not too late. One day, it will be.
