Ugh, that's a long way from me...I don't think I could afford to go, what with just getting back from vacation and going to Sakura Con in a couple weeks. However, if they announced that they'd be premiering the Battle of Gods movie, I might consider flying my ass across the country to see it (if there's still been no announcement regarding international release by that time). I've pretty much given up hope that Sakura Con will provide me any Battle of Gods goodness, since none of the guests are majorly involved with Dragon Ball (well, they've got Vic Mignogna, voice of English Broli :? ).

What day do you think her panel will be? I only had enough money to book a hotel for Saturday night.

If they show Battle of Gods, I would not expect it to have subtitles. I'm not sure if I want to watch it if I don't know what they're saying. That would really spoil it for me. I have always regretted that I spoiled most of Dragon Ball by reading summaries of it before I watched it and I was hoping to finally see something DB without knowing what was going to happen until I saw it.

Saturday would be my prediction, too. I hope they announce it soon.

It would be awesome if they did an in-house subtitling like they did when the JSAT special was released, but it's probably more likely that there'd be no subs. It can be a fun experience to have with your fellow fans watching something new and special all together, even if not everyone understands all the dialogue. The Trigun movie was screened at Sakura Con before it even released in Japan, so of course it was shown unsubbed. With a room full of fans with varying levels of Japanese comprehension, of course some people got more out of the movie than others, but everyone laughed together at the visual gags, and there were extensive discussions between fans after the screening about what was going on plot-wise. With the Dragon Ball movie, which has been described as having plenty of action scenes and gags, the audience would probably still enjoy it a lot even without knowing every word that's being said. I'd definitely take any chance I could to see it, subtitled or not! :D

Yeah...I guess I probably would watch it (and definitely enjoy it) even without subs. Can't be too picky, I guess. I would love to be a part of the experience, being there with other die-hard Dragon Ball fans to see it so early. It would be better than seeing the official U.S. theatrical release, since that will probably be dubbed and have a somewhat more casual audience. But if it does get such a release in U.S. theaters, I would certainly see it that way, too!

If you get to meet Masako Nozawa and Toshio Furukawa and complain about a movie that just came out not being subtitled yet, you are guaranteed to spend time with Goz and Mez.

I will be miles away on those days, drinking heavily and crying into my Goku gi t-shirt as the Jungle Remix of Cha-La Head Cha-La plays on a loop.

I'm sorry you won't be able to make it. Like I said in a previous post though, I hope someone takes some video of the panels so you and others who can't be there can get some of the experience. I will probably take some amount video myself actually.

About the movie, I wouldn't say I was complaining. I was just wondering aloud if I wanted my first viewing of it to be one where I fully understood what was going on, if given the chance to see it unsubbed. I would be grateful for the chance to see it at all, but I am trying really hard not to spoil it (yes, I pretty much consider seeing it without understanding what they're saying a kind of spoiler), so I can get the best experience on the first viewing. I only have one chance to see it for the first time.

Maybe we'll get lucky and get multiple panels since she's such a fabulously famous legend. Furukawa did more than one last year (I went to the Sunday one only though because it conflicted with another person's on Saturday, I think Ichiro Itano but don't quote me on it) so it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine multiple panels for her. :>

Plus there'll also be a general Dragon Ball panel that I'm sure Nozawa will attend. (I'd be heartbroken if she didn't, really.)

And a movie 14 screening?! Never even occurred to me, but wow, that would be amazing. I doubt Animazement would show it unsubtitled though because they so rarely show anything "raw." Since they usually do special tie-ins with FUNimation and have FUNi staff there all weekend long, it's not a complete impossibility that we'd get a subtitled version (if we got it at all, of course).

That would be mind-blowing, but I am trying not to get my hopes up. I'm also trying not to expect them to even show the movie, but I think we all see how extremely fitting it would be, and how it would be a big missed opportunity not to.

Yeah, I'm not going to go in expecting it and am just dying of happiness already at the guests alone. One thing you can definitely expect: some sweet Dragon Ball merch down in the dealer's room. From all of the new things coming out of Japan, to the exchange rates shifting toward the importer's favor, and considering that dealers will usually bring at least a certain % of goods based on the guests' affiliations, it's gonna be a big spending year for me!

Because of Furukawa, last year was easily the most Dragon Ball merch I've seen in my years of going. Even stuff from Dragon Ball and not just Z. :o So my hopes are very high in that department this year.

What an experience it will be for the lucky few who will get to see and meet her in person. I envy you!

Awwweesome. Do dealers ever do trades? I don't know if I have anything tradeworthy, but I am curious.

:( Does anyone want to have a lonely, anti-animazement meetup at Anime Boston?

We can sit in corners, and eat stale Valentine's hearts, and complain about just having crummy English Freeza.

Panel submissions closed the first of the month, before this guest announcement was made (and thus before I knew I was going). I'm just going as a regular attendee most likely.

Awww still amazing though! I need to try and make it.. An "in con" Kanzenshuu meeting with Masako Nozawa. I could explode from excitement! (please don't avoid me at the con  ).

'Kay, so the latest podcast episode got me excited for this all over again.

It takes a lot for me to start majorly geeking out at just the slight possibility of doing something, but I pump myself up every time I go to the Animazement site to semi-entertain the notion of driving 6.5 hours to meet these people. Nozawa being in America is seriously one of those "once in a lifetime" things, so I'd hate to miss it. But at the same time, I've never been to a con, so I'd have no idea what to do. You get, like, ten seconds with these people before you're asked to move along, right? So, do you just walk up and say "OhHiThereI'mABigFanCanYouSignThisOkayBye!" And considering the language barrier, I doubt I'd even get to do that.

Those of you who are going, what's your big goal? An autograph? A conversation? A chance to record a podcast opening? Letting Nozawa, Nakao, and Furukawa sit and watch you stare at them and drool? I'm sure that for those of you who go to cons regularly, this sounds like such a silly question, but I've seriously never been to something like this before.

Not necessarily. I went to my first con at 15, and t was like...the best thing ever, With guests specifically, you usually at least get a few minutes with them at autographs lines, and I have yet to meet one who's mean to their fans. They usually let you take small recordings like phone blips. The only time I was permitted to actually interview a guest for an extended amount of time was if I did press though. :( In addition to autograph lines, they have panels, where you can individually ask them questions. While a lot of people go to panels, it can really feel like an individual experience. Some guests even roam the halls and hang out at the con with attendees. I know of a few who have more close attendee friends than other guests. XD

Then there are dealers rooms. Just....be prepared to spend more money than you have on more things than you need.

The rest is really fan-driven! The fans run their own panels on shows, culture, academia or activities! I actually do the DBZ panels at a few cons. :D Those are really great ways to meet like-minded friends. There's also cosplay, which is SO. DAMN. FUN. The costumes you'd see are AMAZING.

Cons are great. Even if there wasn't this amazing lineup, you would have SUCH a great time! Buuut, there is a great line up. SO GO!
