Might actually get these so I can have a nice cheap version that I can lend to friends, take when I'm travelling, etc.

I don't know about you guys, but I find the VizBigs are so difficult read- especially in bed. I'm always terrified that I'm gonna rip the thing in half, it feels so delicate. The spine is pretty much glued together. :|

I'll have the VizBigs' to look nice on my shelf, and the 3-in-1s for reading.

I am very interested in picking these up... if these are truly unedited visually and have "Hercule" changed back to Mr. Satan. That one name change is my biggest disappointment with the Viz adaptation, since "Hercule" is purely censorship, whereas terms like Cultivars, "Djinn" Boo, and Vegerot can be justified as translations.

I'm as anxious as everyone else to hear a response from Viz regarding further details.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Has anyone actually asked Viz about specific things like if nipples and guns and original names are back where they belong? All we know is Goku's dingledong is still there and that it's still violent, the VizBigs had both of those.

Man, if these are completely uncensored with Kanzenban covers and on crappy 3-in-1 paper... I'm gonna be annoyed.

Having said that, has anyone seen the Neon Genesis Evangelion 3-in-1s? From what I hear, they are higher quality than the usual ones. Maybe these'll be like that?

If it's truly uncensored, I might pick up this release after all. Of course, I'll wait for the reviews, and maybe flip through the book some, before making my final decision. No point in settling for less.

I wish they would list the book's credits somewhere online so we could get an idea as to whether or not there's a new translation (unlikely).

As far as paper quality and extras go, their NGE release is pretty good. I remember hearing secondhand that the translation is the same as the old one, but I can't say that conclusively. They left the Japanese sound effects intact, which is nice. I'd love it if they did the same for DB's sound effects.

But VegettoEX said this earlier:
VegettoEX wrote:I don't think anyone's brought this up yet, but Amazon has listings for Volume 1 and Volume 2 of this new "3-in-1" edition. The listed size is 7.5 x 5 inches, which fits right in with the first One Piece 3-in-1 which is 5 x 1.4 x 7.6 inches, and opposed to the Viz Big edition which is 8.6 x 5.8 x 1.5 inches.

Pretty safe to say it's the lower-cost, lower-quality, non-Viz Big editions coming our way.

List price is 14.99 each. As usual, it's going for less on Amazon.

I'm not going to get my hope up for a complete retranslation, but I'm seriously hoping that Viz comes through their promise of the version being completely uncensored. That means restoring Japanese sound effects and Mr. Satan.

Ín the meanwhile, I'm going to wait and see what they do and will buy depending on if they come through the uncensored promise.

What exactly is "3-in-1" editions? Three DB/Z volumes in one?

Volume One: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-3---1 ... n+ball+viz

Volume Two: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-3---1 ... n+ball+viz

Volume Three: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-3---1 ... n+ball+viz

4th June is still a while till it's here, so I can wait before pressing pre-order.

I'm looking forward to finding out what these are. If they have volumes 16, 17 and 18 together, making it back into one series, then I'll probably replace my Viz tankobons with these.

EDIT: The Amazon page says "for teen audiences". That sounds promising.

It has the same rating as the regular edition (top right corner):

But the Viz Bigs, which were edited more than the first Viz tankobons, were rated "A for All" right?

No. Dragon Ball is Teen. Dragon Ball Z is for all ages. That didn't changed with the Vizbigs, especially since the Vizbigs have less censorship than some previous printings of the regular release. The notion that the Vizbigs are more censored than the regular edition is factually wrong. It depends on the edition of the regular edition. Some have more censorship, others have less. The reason why the first part of the manga is not rated for all ages is simply because of the sexual situations of early Dragon Ball.

Oh, okay then. I was always under the impression that the reprints had become gradually more censored with time, and the Viz Bigs used the most recent, thus highest, level of censorship. Weird.

What reason is there to think they're going to fix anything? The colored edition has been hitting SJ online for a month or so now with the same exact dialogue and such as the old release.

If the paper quality is decent, and the manga is truly uncensored, that would tempt me more, considering they have the Kanzenban covers. However, depending on what the Chogashu art book coming out contains, that might satisfy my itch to own hard-copies of the new Kanzenban art.

As I've just finished the first five Viz Bigs (The shipping is slow as hell, it's 2 books per month), I will be damn pissed if this will turn out to be almost like Kanzenban in english, as I allready have tankoubons in Japanese. I won't be buying DB manga for third time again, as the options to resale it here are minimal and girlfriend will call me things.... (as I allready justified buying Viz Bigs ''to read it finally, as I obviously enough don't understand Japanese, as you do.....'' )

We've already confirmed with Viz ourselves that these are going to be the cheaper-paper 3-in-1s. The cover art is likely just an unintentional-kick-in-the-balls.

Oh, thanks a lot! That makes me happy and I can read further without hating the actual book haha
This kinda cements no future Kanzenban, unless they'll make a complete new artwork.
