So, you say that if a Saiyan isn't pure, but he is a Super Saiyan, he is considered as a pure-hearted because he already fulfilled the condition for the Super Saiyan form? Because that's what I thought as well.supacomboy wrote:Or perhaps it has something to do with pure hearts - needing six pure hearted Saiyans, and that reaching Super Saiyan in-itself required a pure heart, so in this state they could be seen to be pure?? And the fact that Pan is unborn and not exposed to any environmental factors is also of pure heart, in essence a blank slate; tabla rasa??

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. A Dragonball sequel that's darker than the original manga? It could have been this... "thing":

I love Dragon Ball for what it is, and I would dislike if Toriyama or anybody for that matter were to make it "dark".
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Not a darker series, just what the writers originally planned for this movie.
A tribute to the official worldwide appearance of Super Saiyan God Goku. (As a Yu-Gi-Oh! veteran and DBZ fan since age 5; now 20...I took great pride in this work.)

Lore:
This card's name is also treated as "Goku - The Super Saiyan God". This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having exactly 6 "Saiyan" monsters in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card's Special Summon cannot be negated. When Special Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. This card cannot be destroyed by battle and is unaffected by your opponent's Spell Cards. You can pay half your life points; banish all cards on the field (except this card). If your opponent controls a face-up "Bills, the Ancient God of Destruction," Spells, Traps, and card effects cannot be activated in response to this effect's activation. During your Standby Phase: Shuffle this card into the Deck (even if face-down); Special Summon 1 "Goku" from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard.

I love Dragon Ball to have that light hearted Toriyama feel to it. I really wouldn't want DB to be darker at all, could just be me though.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Trunks and Bardock's special were certainly dark... and still were some of the most amazing stories of the series.
After he technically crawled his way back to Planet Vegeta after the loss of his friends leaving a trail of blood behind, nobody believes Bardock's warning; he goes against all odds in a final stand just to get face to face with Frieza and is destroyed with the rest of the planet, with a last glimpse of Kakarot's destiny.
The future is bleak, all the warriors were wiped out. Gohan starts training Trunks and then gets his arms torn away. He ensures Trunks survival but gets also killed in the process. We get to see Trunks hopelessness in trying to stop the androids by himself. It ends with a sense of Hope... They might not be able to change anything, but that doesn't mean they wont try it.
When I read about the "darker" version of the movie, I would have expected something like that. Can someone ask him on twitter what that script was about?

Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

Re: Watanabe seems to really like Vegeta
This made me happy and even more interested/excited to see what he does with Vegeta in the movie. X3
Re: The earlier darker script, emotional hits at Goku and "what makes a hero"
That actually makes it sound more like a One Piece kind of thing; while I would not be against it, it might be a little heartbreaking for me to watch Goku take that kind of personal genuinely heavy emotional hit like the type the Straw-hats have taken. The whole "Do it, Dragon Ball, make me cry." thing from many many pages back would definitely take effect there. How would he even go about recovering from that? It's a completely different emotional battleground than the typical "someone Goku cares about has been killed and now he's really pissed off" thing. I don't think I've ever seen him hit with intense sorrow before. I don't think I've ever even seen him cry (not as an adult anyway).

The whole "what makes a hero" thing screams Spider-man to me.
I guess I wouldn't be totally against a darker story, and it could work if executed right, but it wouldn't feel like Dragon Ball to me. Well it would, but not completely.

Bardock and Trunks specials worked because we already knew what happened after these stories. Making this brand new continuation of the manga as dark as these would be something quite shocking.
(Technically we know the Uub epilogue happens after this movie, but that epilogue didn't seem like it had a dark story leading up it, unlike with the Bardock and Trunks specials.)

What do you expect Piccolo to do, exactly?Vice wrote:Wow. Shit-tier villains, Super Saiyans hogging the spotlight, Gohan disappointing everyone and Vegeta and Piccolo again getting the shaft. This is like the Buu Arc all over again.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

What I don't like in this movie is that in the end, everyone from the good guys can be literally get beaten by Goku with just his finger, even Gohan, Gotenks, and Vegeta. Goku became too strong, stronger than even Vegetto.

Only Goku got beat with a finger, and that was against BIlls who is stronger then SSJG Goku, the rest of the saiyajins it seemed to take more then just a finger. But I see what your saying. I still doubt this is the end and maybe only the beginning of Dragonballs second-wind especially if the movie does as well, or better then Toei Expects. It almost feels like toriyama helped out just so they could get some more infor\ from him, and learn how they could continue the series. But that might just be me...

Depends how dark it will be? I won't mind having a show with a more serious tone. I think being dark does not mean it has be as dark as the Nolan Batman movies.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:I love Dragon Ball for what it is, and I would dislike if Toriyama or anybody for that matter were to make it "dark".

I'm honestly surprised that FLOW's attempt at English is even worse than Kageyama's. I can at least understand some of Kageyama's version, I could only pick out about 2 words in theirs. Wow, haha.
