Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Just found out about this from Dao on facebook:
"The world's first Bills cosplayer from Battle of Gods just got detained at the Tokyo International Anime Fair by TOEI because of copyright issues. They say he can't wear the costume. What do you think of that?"

I've never heard of this ever happening before. There has to be something more to it.cloud1414 wrote:Just found out about this from Dao on facebook:

Checking the facebook page's latest comments, there's one guy there saying they were using the Birusu costume to advertise for their own products? Would that fall under copyright law-breaking? I have no idea.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
WHAT. That's just stupid. They basically promote the movie free of charge with an amazing and realistic custome of Bills, and they get detained?
What products were they advertising then? I guess that would get them in trouble because they are using Toei's character to make a profit but still...

I like to get more info on this story before I start lighting my torches and sharpening my pitchforks.

Ditto. This sounds really odd. Perhaps there was some misinformation?Scarz wrote:I like to get more info on this story before I start lighting my torches and sharpening my pitchforks.

Whatever the case may be, that is one amazing looking cosplay. I don't know whether to scratch him behind the ear or run away in fear. Maybe I'll scratch first, then run away, then run back up to scratch again, then run away again. Awwwww -- ahhhh! -- awwww -- aahhh!
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
If that's true then I don't have a problem with what Toei did. It would be like me using a Tony the Tiger costume to sell something. Not okay.Chuquita wrote:Checking the facebook page's latest comments, there's one guy there saying they were using the Birusu costume to advertise for their own products? As long as he wasn't advertising products like some people are saying, they shouldn't detain him. He did an awesome job making this costume too! The only thing I think he forgot was the yellow clip on his left ear.cloud1414 wrote:Just found out about this from Dao on facebook:

I believe (though can't confirm at the moment because I foolishly left it at work) that the poster sketch is from the movie feature in the current issue of DVD & Blu-Ray Vision. There were character model sheets in there, too, along with interviews featuring the usual suspects.VyeRo wrote:Does anyone know if the BoG sketch poster (it was posted here several pages back) is featured in the official movie guide?

I must say, I am disappointed by the lack of interviews with Yamamuro or other animators.

Good on you Toei.. protect your intellectual property like a rabid dog.. the future of Dragonball depends on it. If the movie grosses well, it could mean a new TV miniseries, maybe even new manga by Toriyama himself.. but if pirates try to cut into the profits we may never get those things. Even if it means I won't get to see Battle of Gods for years I hope it never leaks online.

What are the chances that Toriyama would actually do another series of Dragonball? I mean, I remember in a interview (long ago) he was tired of drawing Dragonball. I really liked his one shot Kintoki.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
The only way I'd ever see him returning to doing a regular serialization would be for a lot of money and on a monthly basis. Twenty pages a month, rather than fifteen a week, would probably be the limit, though.That_Saiya-Jin_Guy wrote:What are the chances that Toriyama would actually do another series of Dragonball? A monthly series would be nice if he'd be willing and interested. It'd give Toriyama more time and he wouldn't be as pressured...as long as it stars the current cast I'd read it.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I don't see it happening; he's essentially pulling a Togashi except his series is over.

Well, there was the introduction he did for Naho Ooishi's JSAT comic where he said he probably won't draw anymore DB. From his interviews for Sachie-chan Good!! it sounds like he likes coming up with a story and drawing a design or two but having someone else draw it. Something like that or his involvement in BoG is the most I see him doing. I would love to be wrong though.That_Saiya-Jin_Guy wrote:What are the chances that Toriyama would actually do another series of Dragonball? I don't think any type of continuation would star anyone other than Goku. The story isn't called Goku's Martial Arts Adventures but it still has always been just that.Chuquita wrote:A monthly series would be nice if he'd be willing and interested. Yeah. It's a slippery slope. First comes the cosplayers, then the pirated movies, then we find Akira Toriyama drowned in a lake. Suspiciously drowned. I believe they call it "under suspicious circumstance." And what do they unearth on the muddy bank? A sewing pattern. Murder by cosplay? Perhaps, perhaps not. I can neither deny it nor confirm it. Because it hasn't happened. But it will happen if we let those damned cosplay ruffians -- nay, barbarians -- run amok. Are we not a civilized people?! Is it not our responsibility to quash those cosplay anarchists before it becomes bloody Lord of Flies around here?! You know what they say: "give 'em an inch, and the next thing you know our favorite creators are dropping dead like Kuririns! All the while, costumes of those same favorite creators appear to be on the rise!" Coincidence?! I think not! I thank not! Oh, and pirated movies! It all begins with cosplay.FindKenshi wrote:Good on you Toei.. protect your intellectual property like a rabid dog.. the future of Dragonball depends on it. In all seriousness, I don't know the full story here about the Birusu cosplay, but I fail to see how Toei cracking down on cosplayers will help the battle against piracy. That's a battle already lost, anyhow. If they're going to spend energy protecting their intellectual property, the cosplayers should be the least of their concerns and would only serve as a distraction. In fact, if indeed there's not more to the story here, Toei's actions could cause some fans to turn on them. So far it doesn't sound like Toei made a smart move here.
