Shin Budokai Character Roster

Post by Deus ex Machina » Wed Mar 29, 2006 8:44 pm

I'm just looking at Shin Budokai and weighing the pros and cons of picking up this rather expensive peice of gaming equipment. Anyways I'm mostly impressed by the trailers, but does anyone know the exact number of characters and transformations, and if applicable alternate costumes?

Well it's a start. :P Surely somebody here has it already, or knows somebody who does.

Here's a list of unlockable characters..

Goku - Kaioken, SSJ, SSJ2 & SSJ3 Forms.
Gotenks - Super Saiyan & SSJ3
Adult Gohan - Super Saiyan Form, SSJ2 and Mystic Forms
Piccolo - Fuse with Kami Form
Vegeta - Super Saiyan, SSJ2 and Majin
Cell - Super Perfect Form
Pikkon
Vegeto and Gogeta
Janemba
Frieza - 100% Full Power Form
Future Trunks - Super Saiyan Form
Teen Gohan - SSJ and Super Saiyan 2 Forms
Cooler - Final Form
Broly - Legendary Super Saiyan Form
Krillin

I know there are in-game transformations, but it looks like you have to beat certain characters to unlock certain transformations in the Dragon Road Mode. But when selecting a transformed character hold the "R" button. You will start in the transformed state and not have to power up and transform during the game.

Just 16 characters, and only one of them is new. That figures. Can't expect too much from a hand held game after all, but it still looks cool atleast...

:o Interesting. If I hadn't blown my birthday money on my awesome Evangelion boxset, I would've bought this and a PSP.

That's not quite right. Here's a quick snippet about transformations from my review of the game when it came out:
Slickmasterfunk wrote:In-game transformations are limited. On the character select screen you can use what form you want your character to be capable of. For example if you choose Goku: Super Saiyan 2, you will start the battle at base Goku and be capable of transforming to Super Saiyan 2. Nothing lower, nothing higher, just one transformation. Kind of disappointing.
You can check out my full review of both Shin Budokai and Budokai 3 GH here.

Are different character forms counted as seperate characters? I hated that about Tenkaichi. There's something very fun about transforming into mecca Frieza in Boudokai 3 and I'd like to see it back.

Nope, it's like Budokai 3 - though there is a way to start the battles in a transformed state.

I plan on getting a PSP when I get my tax return back. I might get this game at that time, just to have it. Sounds like it might be fun for a little while anyway.

I'm sorry that this might not belong in this topic, but what is the story mode like? What parts of the series does it cover?

To answer part of your question, I believe the story mode for Shin Budokai is just solely based on Movie 12 "Fusion Reborn". It seems to make sense because FUNimation just recently released Movie 12 recently.
