Who was the coolest henchman?
Ah, henchmen. Good ol' generically evil brutes who exist solely to get worfed or just offed by second-string characters. Most of them are forgettable, but some are actually pretty cool. Who do you think was the coolest? For me, it's:
Main series: Tambourine. Dude went around murdering tons of martial artists, making their techniques look like shit by demonstrating his own techniques, like the 100 Arms and that energy claw thing. He was also the first villain to kill Krillin. This proud tradition would later be continued by guys like Freeza and Buu. And on top of that, he's a gargoyle-looking demon who shoots laser beams from his eyes. What's not to love?
Runner Up: Dabura. When he first appears, he basically says "Get that weak shit out of here" and kills off three supporting characters. The next time he appears, he kicks the crap out of Gohan. The final time, he bravely fights against a much stronger opponent before being defeated. Also, he's basically Satan, and none of the heroes ever truly bested him in a fight. Dude's so badass that even his spit can kill you.
Movies: Salza. As the leader of Cooler's Armored Squadron, he shows off power exceeding third form Freeza (VERY impressive for a mere minion), knocks out Krillin and Gohan with one kick each, and holds his own against a powered-up Piccolo. He also has a cool laser blade move. You know who the only other person who ever used a laser blade was? Vegito. And Cooler, if you count the video games...
Runner Up: Cacao. I like his design. He also participated in the proud villain tradition of beating up Yamcha.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

That's tradition, I pretty sure that's just part of the everyday life of YamchaRandomGuy96 wrote:Runner Up: Cacao. I like his design. He also participated in the proud villain tradition of beating up Yamcha.

Re: Who was the coolest henchman?
So this is about to go against the spirit of the thread, but my least favorite henchmen are Dodoria and Zarbon. Their designs aren't exactly something to write home about, they show up at around the series' least interesting point in the story, and are finished off almost as soon as they appear. The best thing about these two? As soon as the Ginyu Force arrives, they are forgotten, and that forgetability highlights how awesome the aforementioned are and how they were needed to spring the Freeza arc to life.
So my official choice is Butta, or extended to all of the Ginyu Force. They were funny and had unique abilities beyond being generically strong.

I liked Dabura. He had a cool design, and had some pretty cool techniques, like the flame breath and the stone spit.

I liked Pilaf's henchmen. Haha It's still very funny how they yell their names when they attack.

I wanna say Nappa but I'm not sure if he counts. If he doesn't then I agree with Tambourine. I loved his design and his little martial arts master murder spree. As for anime exclusive characters I would chose...Metal Coola I guess? He...they were kinda like henchmen.

As others have said, Dabra was awesome. I think he would've been a better (or at least cooler) main villain than Buu for the last arc. And I liked Zanyga too.

Good Satan I can't believe I forgot about Dabura... he's my real runner-up. Sorry, Raditz.
He should've at least stuck around longer...I think he would've been a better (or at least cooler) main villain than Buu for the last arc.

I disagree with him being cooler than Boo, but it would have been nice for him to get some more screen time before he died.MisguidedGhost wrote:As others have said, Dabra was awesome. Re: Who was the coolest henchman?
I think Tullece had some of the most downright kickass henchmen ever.
First you've got Cacao, a freakin' cyborg. And I don't mean "oh he looks human but he's got artificial power gadgets under there" cyborg like Gero's lazy-ass Androids. No, I'm talking straight-up horror-scifi-style cyborg, an intimidating fusion of monster and machine. Dude's got flippin' built-in rocket boosters. It's just icing on the cake that he got to beat up Yamcha.
Then there's this "Daiz" fellow, who's apparently an expert on everything about power levels. I'm not sure what or why people think so. Maybe he'll have a character bio in the Choz that'll explain it.
Once upon a time, Zarbon forcefully purged himself of all his masculinity. This disembodied cloud of raw manliness took a physical form and became known as Amond.
Also those purple guys.

Re: Who was the coolest henchman?
Then definitely Nappa. I know people love Vegeta but the VS Nappa fight was what made that arc for me. Yamucha's death set the tone for the fight and then Nappa proves he isn't one to disappoint by punching Tenshinhan's arm off. He then proceeds to pick off the Dragon Warriors and absorb signature attacks until Goku comes and breaks his back. He was an incredibly brutal tank that didn't need any flashy design or guidebook background to be memorable. I also like his plain design. It makes him stand out as a seinen-like villain among DB's other Toriyama cartoony villains.RandomGuy96 wrote: He does.

Dabura.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

The Ginyu Force, nuff said.
Beyond them, I have to give a slight nod to Salza. Sure, he's a Jeice rip off, but he's the only sidekick I can think of that actually outlives his master (ignoring movie 6 anyway). You gotta give him some points for that.

Re: Who was the coolest henchman?
For the cool category, I'd probably say Dabura, then 17 (for how little we perceived him to be under Gero's control) and then Burter. For BEST henchman, I'd say Zarbon

It has to be Dabura. Great design, great voice, and some nice hype. (even if it didn't pay off) Also gets points for the spit petrification power
Runner-Up is Anime Colonel Silver. The anime did a number on making him a lot cooler.

I'm a big Dabura fan. I also like Gen. Blue, Nappa, Burter, Ledgic, Selypa, Zarbon, Ninja Murasaki, Invisible Man, Nikki, Spopovich, and of course Mr. Popo.
