Though it's not as much of an issue in the drawing listed below, I really don't like how top-heavy and scrawny the characters look. The females in particular have really short legs, and Toriyama somehow managed to make 18 look ugly. Her shoulders are way above her chest, and her legs are so tiny. Her proportions are all over the place.supacomboy wrote:

Oh... well now. That's certainly odd. I don't remember if you've told me this before, but are your height charts intended to be accurate to how they look in series, official measurements, or a mix?TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Son Gohan:Saiga wrote:Wait, since when is Satan taller than Gohan?!

Not that I always agree with these heights, Trunks and Goten being perfect examples why, but they work by comparison IMO. So, I suppose Toriyama usually intends him to be taller, but that doesn't always happen since his characters tend to shrink once they fall into gag territory. Kuririn is a great example of this; as he actually looks pretty tall in the Cell Arc, but quickly returns to being short during the Buu Arc. Mr. Satan fell pray to it too...fairly hard.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Height of Toriyama's art style. Perfect proportions. Round but also sleek. Short characters like Vegeta and Krillin are chubby and not overly muscular, and the characters don't look disgustingly lean and square.
What happened?
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

That is the style i love the most, late 80's to about early 2000. Even Oda's style has changed, i like his earlier work more.

I simply think he's out of "practice". As far as I know he's only done a few things here and there since DB ended.

Re: Trunks' Turquoise Hair Colour
About heights as drawn: they're often exaggerated, both up and down, depending on the character and the scene. I take the guidebook heights as how tall they're supposed to be, without the distortion of size comparisons that exists in Toriyama's art style. If you have two very tall characters, two very short characters, or two averageish characters next to each other you can generally compare them pretty well, but characters in a different size range WILL be stretched up or scrunched down to make it more obvious. When he's trying to emphasize a height difference, the shorter character usually gets REALLY short (compare Vegeta later on to his appearance in the Saiyan Saga, where he's shrunk down to look especially tiny next to big ol' Nappa and even Goku, who actually wouldn't even be a full head taller than him.) And some, especially kids and goofier characters like Roshi, are always drawn super short compared to others despite their official heights (unless Roshi's height in the guides was meant for his bulked-up "max power" mode, then his apparent shortness compared to everyone when he's "normal size" makes more sense. XD)
I've never understood where the random hatred for Crocs comes from. Seriously, that's all I've ever heard about Crocs--that everyone hates them... for no apparent reason. I personally don't care one way or the other about Crocs or about shoes in general, but the idea that so many people can hate a certain type of shoe so much that they constantly mock them every time they're seen or mentioned is just strange.Everyone has an opinion about Crocs™. No matter who you ask, someone either hates them or love them. No in between.

It's quite disturbing to imagine that Videl is pregnant here and that Pan has a role in the movie as an... embryo?supacomboy wrote:

The heights seem way off in this image to me. Videl's too short and Roshi's too tall. And yeah, everyone is too skinny, especially Mr. Satan.
