In other types of series it wouldn't surprise me, I'm mostly surprised because it's Dragon Ball (tentacle-monsters don't seem like Toriyama's flavor of pervertedness imo, DB's pervertedness has always struck me as more of a blunt, "here's an almost-naked woman" type) but I guess when I take One Piece and Toriko into account (both of which I would not be surprised to see this sort of monster existing in) it makes more sense.Scarz wrote:It's Japan. How very interesting that people can't seem to respond to dbzfan7's thoughts without deliberately misrepresenting his view.

How are people deliberately misrepresenting his views? He's asking about why would Goku need to go Super Saiyan and all that stuff, and we're telling him there's no logical answer. Those questions are useless in a crossover like this, where the main rule, that these 3 series do not take place in the same world, is ignored from the start. At least that's what I wanted to convey.Saiga wrote:How very interesting that people can't seem to respond to dbzfan7's thoughts without deliberately misrepresenting his view.
This is just mindless fun, never meant to make much sense, and it's only purpose is to show these characters interact with one another. That's it.
Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

The comments about leaving Goku out/having Goku one-shot everyone as if that's what dbzfan7 said he wants when he made clear it wasn't. That's what I'm talking about by misrepresenting his views.fogdark wrote:How are people deliberately misrepresenting his views? I wouldn't say misunderstanding. They just don't care about in-universe and power levels as much as we do. It will bother me how ridiculous the special will probably be power wise. But I'll just treat it as non canon bullshit for the sake of plot. Kinda like how Superman gets toned down in stories so he can't save the day easily. I was suggesting ideas which could keep everyone from getting nerfed, but people didn't seem to care. I didn't want Goku to fight any of them. I wanted him to be the background guy who helps the others until he is needed to fight.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I seriously understand where you're coming from, I do. But having Goku from an early era won't make much sense when promoting Battle of Gods. Sure, you can have Goku from the Freeza saga, but then you won't be able to have adult Gohan or Goten and Trunks, for example, all of whom appear on the movie.dbzfan7 wrote:I wouldn't say misunderstanding. And about the power levels, personally I think you're assuming a lot of things when saying Goku is way stronger than Luffy.
Just to give you an example, you're assuming the universe Dragon Ball takes place in, is exactly the same as the one where One Piece takes place. For all we know, in the One Piece universe you actually need more force/energy/strength to destroy anything. A rock that Goku might be able to destroy just by increasing his ki in the Dragon Ball universe, might be a lot more harder to break in the One Piece universe, for example.
Still, when making this special, Toei didn't think to much about it, I'm sure. "Toriko is about to have it's anniversary and Dragon Ball has a new movie coming out, lets promote them by showing them together doing what they do best. And let's throw One Piece in there since it's crazy popular." -I'm pretty sure this was, more or less, Toei's line of thought when planing the special.

Re: One Hour Toriko/One Piece/DBZ crossover to Air April 7
All three series must be on equal ground, it shouldn't even be implied that one of the three is stronger than the others, not by the events, nor by his behavior, and even less by his battle efficiency.
Otherwise, instead of uniting the communities of each series for the joyful event, it would only make people jealous, thinking it's unfair that their favorite hero who they grew to consider the best is shown as a complete wuss compared to that other show's character(s).
If they had Goku being obviously the strongest and waiting around for others to fight unless an emergency strikes, fans from the other two shows would think "geez, who do they think this guy is? Some sort of almighty God that just has MY hero reduced to shit in comparison and has him do the dirty work because he's too supreme to be even bothered by the threat here?! What's that dumb Dragon Ball show where they just decide that their heroes are gods 1 000 000 times better than the other manga heroes?" My point is that it would only sparkles jealousy and conflicts between the communities.
Nobody can agree on power levels within one same universe, so debating over who's strongest and at what moment of their own story would be even more complicated, even more sterile and hellish! That's certainly not Toei's intention to start this sort of hot debates between the various fan communities!
And this is not the point, the objective is more of a celebration of the three shows and their specific heroes, bringing several communities together and perhaps igniting a spark of interest for the other franchises they might not know.
By that point, we don't need logic, since it's already illogical to consider them living in the same world (and don't expect a cross-world explanation in the plot, it'll just be "they live in the same world for this episode, deal with it")!
So let's toss away the logic and enjoy a double-episode that will probably be very fun, with the reunion and interactions of several characters we love and/or respect!
Promoting the charisma and skills of characters from other franchises for each community should not encompass making their favorite series' hero seem less important in comparison.

Re: One Hour Toriko/One Piece/DBZ crossover to Air April 7
If it were a proper crossover, where a villain pulled all the characters out of their respective universes at a specific point in time or something and it was going to be mentioned as happening in later material, then fine. Go 'head and scale everyone properly, because Goku is kind of a literal god now and he shouldn't really be having issues with anyone from Toriko or One Piece. But, I'm assuming that this crossover is just going to pit the characters from all three series together, with no explanation of how they are all in the same universe. So I have to agree with Cold Skin here. None of them should be accurately represented in terms of power, balance everyone out like it were a videogame and just let the three fandoms enjoy the special.

I really like what dbzfan7 is saying, I would actually like Goku to take on a type of master teaching his students role.

Fist of the North Star, Saint Seiya, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Kinnikuman, and Mazinger all went out of Weekly Jump for their later continuations, and Bleach and Naruto prove that quality is not a requirement for popularity).JulieYBM wrote:I've sat through twenty-nine episodes of Toriko. It feels like a Shonen should, from what I've read (that could change, but it's been fun, the key of any good shonen). All three series do, to different degrees. They each do it in their own way, but they have the right spirit. That's why I think this crossover will work (and I hope it's dubbed by Funimation, since they dub all three series).
Given that this is coming out about a week about Battle of Gods, do any of you want to see Bils there?
Actually, they don't dub -all- the series. For One Piece they've skipped each of the prior 2 Toriko crossovers. They never went back to dub or sub it, even after licensing Toriko. I'm sure they'd like to but, even with all the licenses together, it still seems like there's some kind of obscure legal reason involving Toei why they're unable to sub it. (have they said anything on the 3rd crossover?)
There is one thing I'm curious about- have either of the two Toriko crossovers been released on Japanese dvd?
Sean Schemmel is THE MAN! :)

FUNimation's DVD releases of One Piece have yet to reach the first two Toriko crossover episodes, so of course they are not dubbed.GS7X7 wrote:Actually, they don't dub -all- the series. But yes, Toei Animation has done a DVD release of the first two crossovers in Japan. I don't suspect they will put this special on home video until they have one more to go with it, though.
Re: One Hour Toriko/One Piece/DBZ crossover to Air April 7
Lol, I meant released, not dubbed.
I think Funi OP is somewhere around episode 250, meaning it's only halfway to episode 492 (or 493) which is the first crossover.

KeyholeTV has FujiTV as a supported network, right? It might be the resolution of a postage stamp, but I'm watching this.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.
