Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

So it looks like Vegeta was supposed to be wearing his Buu Saga outfit in the movie? Then they changed the movie but it was too late to change the toy figure.

That's how I took it, yeah. I'm also wondering if maybe it's because there's not really a pause for Vegeta to change clothes? The first time we see Vegeta is his training I think, so maybe he was wearing his old armor for that instead of his usual attire?

Wasn't it mentioned in the Jump '08 special that his Saiyan battle gear is also formal attire? Maybe he was planning on joining the party eventually. I guess the animators remembered that part at the last moment, so they made him appear in his armor instead of his Buu saga outfit (which was the original plan).

Oh yeah, there's that too. Hmm...I guess it could go either way. We'll probably never really know unless someone actually asks someone from the movie's staff about this specific little change.

It could be something as simple as them deciding he looks better in the armor than he does in his Boo attire too, maybe.

The only other film as such that I've seen is Bleach's Hell Verse, which sadly doesn't really seem much different from regular Bleach movies,

Tite Kubo renounced his involvement in Hell Verse. An author's note came from him on the DVD release stating that while he had plenty of meetings with the screenwriters, nothing from those brainstorm sessions actually appears in the film. As such, he wanted his "executive producer" credit removed, but the movie was too far into the editing process to take it out. Interestingly enough, at least to my knowledge, he has never had a problem being listed as "executive producer" on Bleach's third film, Fade to Black, I Call Your Name. I've never seen Road to Ninja, but I wonder if anything similar went on with that project since it is also Studio Pierrot. It's a little disappointing considering the slump in popularity and the anime ending; we may never see a Kubo-overseen Bleach film. Or a fifth Bleach film at all.

Uhm, Dragon Ball. I'm trying to stay out of reeeeally specific notes about the movie, and will see it when I can see it.

Huh, that's the first time I've heard about the Kubo/Hell Chapter issues (probably because while I am a pretty big Bleach fan, it's limited to reading the manga and occasionally watching the anime, rather than being involved in internet discussions about it; same with Naruto really). That certainly explains a lot about my own feelings towards that movie now, IE not being near as impressed with it as I'd hoped I would be.

Thankfully it seems things went almost the entirely opposite route with Battle of Gods - the scriptwriter had a lot of his own ideas, but seemingly some of them (the original more 'fitting' reason for Beers' name pun to be from 'virus' for example) were squashed in favor of Toriyama's vision for the film.

EDIT: Actually, now that I see it's more of a poker-face than a frown, that's kinda funny.

And those irises are still huge. XD

If any ssjg figures come out with the more pink-ish hair he's got without the aura, I may be snapping one of those up. >_>

The name "CraneKing" makes me worry that they're crane-game toys (which means even if by a stroke of unbelievable luck there was a crane machine somewhere near me that had these in it, I probably wouldn't be able to win the game to get one and even if I did they're blind-boxes so no telling which one you'd get).

I hope that's not the case though.

Crane Games are more commonly known in Japan as UFO Catchers. So, I doubt that's a very good indicator of how these will be distributed.

No, it doesn't seem to be that way. I can see outlines for his armor, gloves and the part that covers his stomach.

Boy that SSJG figure looks super good. Better than in some of the art we've been seeing, in my opinion

I was kind of hoping Vegeta would get a new outfit too (I count Goku's blue sweatsuit as a new outfit) but so much ridiculous stuff happens to Vegeta in this film that I'm ok with him not getting a new outfit after all.

Because Goku is still weaker than 100% Freeza (I think) in his base form, I guess this means that the leap between Humans and Saiyans isn't that large anymore. Well it's still big, but you get what I'm trying to say right?

This means that Piccolo is stronger than the base Saiyans.

If that really is the case, I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it seems a little more balanced, and gives at least a smidge more respect back to the strengths of the non-Saiyan characters. On the other hand...the Saiyans do continue to grow stronger, and not always due to a transformation, so why wouldn't their base forms be getting stronger along with that? Especially if the transformations are multipliers. Are the multiplications going up instead of what they're multiplying, or what?

And my head just asploded. This is why I very rarely think about strength levels. Ow.

Also, just re-read the synopsis at a slower, more leisurely pace, and picked up on some stuff I didn't get the first time around, such as now knowing why we see a ship's legs in the one shot of everyone around Goku.

This reminds me of a fanfic I've read where Bulma accidentally gives Gohan her own watch that contains her Halloween costumes, and suddenly Gohan finds himself wearing a Sailormoon outfit.
