That's not what they (FUNimation or DBLegends) said.
Since Fox optioned the rights to movie adaptations of
Dragon Ball around 10 years ago (hence the
Evolution farce), and co-produced this film with Toei Animation, they have the right of first-refusal when it comes to an English dub. FUNimation is merely a licensee, and is subject to the whims of the companies that actually produced the original material (which, as noted, includes Fox). They could very well give it a pass, and let FUNimation have a crack at it, but we really have no idea at this point.
As for the amount of time, we really have no idea what that estimate is based on, if anything.

Nothing is confirmed, this is based on FUNimations statement that they think it will be two years before the movie is released here, and that FOX has first dibs.
Wait FOX will be dubbing it in the future? I can see a lot of angry dub fans boycotting this if that's the case.

No, they have first dibs, meaning if they WANT to dub it, they can. But most likely they will have the same voice actors you all know and love.

A huge battle ensues with the Z warriors barely winning, at which point it is revealed that he is just a scout, and the real God of Destruction is on his way, and he's not going to be happy with the way his servent has been treated. And then maybe Bills shows up and fights along side Goku against the other God of Destruction, because if anyone is going to destroy the Earth, it's going to be Bills.
TOEI should hire me as a writer, hahaha
That would be cool. Thats a great thread for a story.
I think at this point, since TOEI look like they want to expand the DB verse, they should put a hault on one-on-one punch ups and have "superfights" or a battle royale. I wouldn't mind seeing a new legion of supervillains versus some of our guys all at once or add some complete ROFLSTOMP "gadget" ('Heart of The Universe' or something). I'm abit disappointed that we're fully up on supervillains in our present universe though (perhaps), would be alittle strange to have stronger people than Bills come out of this universe if the series continues. I wanted to see one-last Bojack-esque dude that completely stomps. Ohwell.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I think they would if they could, but there's a whole legal/business song and dance that has to be done before they get their hands on it, and that will probably take awhile...and they have to wait for FOX first.

When the movie is officially released on dvd in Japan, what is the likelihood we will have the option for english subtitles? I have a friend who is living in Japan at the moment, and tempting to see if she can get me a copy of the movie when its released in a few months. Was unsure if many of the other japanese releases had the option of english subs or not. - I have only ever imported a couple of other unreleted anime-dvds from japan which were pretty expensive, but did have lovely front covers, and an english sub option.

It's highly unlikely.

Darn it :-0( My hopes have been shattered.... Do you guys think there will be any chance of some sub stream coming online on a safe site anytime soon? - Even if its in a few weeks. I really dislike illegally streaming things but right now i feel there may not be another way. If anybody heres of any, which are reliable and safe please pm me :S I know we can't post links here, and don't want to get anybody in trouble!
I'm gutted

- Then again, i'm pretty sure 90% of this site is feeling just as cheesed off as me! Ok very unrelated but i have bought a couple of really good japanese movies (a tale of maru) and (Hachiko) - Both had english subs, although were not anime. Importing costs was not really high although more expensive than releases here in the UK.

Wasn't the JSAT special subbed? And the Episode of Bardock? I don't see why they would stop subbing at Battle of Gods.

I'd say it's 50/50. There's precedent for it. the 2012 JoJo anime, Tiger & Bunny... The Japanese Blu-ray for Baccano! has the English dub on it, but I'm not sure about English subs...
Of course, those are all non-Toei shows; in fact, all three shows are from a different studio; so they don't help much.

The latter was streamed for multiple countries. I don't remember what was up with Bardock though.

I think they streamed Bardock legally in Japan, but then region-blocked everybody else. I could be wrong, but I feel like I remember getting a "this is not available in your country" type of message back then.
On hiatus.

I'm pretty sure that the episode of bardock was....... Although i could possibly be getting jumbled up with the kinect release which came out recently.

Those are two different cases. The JSAT Special was subbed in multiple languages because it was intended for an international streaming release. Episode of Bardock (and PtEtSS) were only subbed for their inclusion into English-language video game releases as extras.
In the Japanese home video market, there is little to no need for putting English subtitles on a disc. They're primarily meant for Japanese speakers living in Japan. There have been a few exceptions of course (like FMA: Conqueror of Shambala, or the recent Studio Ghibli Blu-Rays), in the case of Gundam Unicorn: a full sub and dub job. But in Gundam UC's case, they did that because they intended to just sell the Japanese Blu-Ray globally, on international shores. And it's only a select few Japanese companies that decide to put English subs on their discs. I'm not saying it won't happen... but unless Toei/Shueisha/FOX plans for their domestic Japanese Blu-Ray/DVD to be sold internationally, it's somewhat unlikely their home release of BoG will be anything other than raw Japanese. There is precedent for this in the Dragon Ball world. Other than DragonBall: Evolution (which Fox had a hand in), there has never been a Japanese Dragon Ball DVD or Blu-Ray with English subs on it. With FOX involved, there is a slim chance, but I wouldn't hope too hard.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Neither of those were big theatrical releases like Battle of Gods. They had limited invite-only festival showings, and in the case of Episode of Bardock, the stream was region-locked. If Toei were to stream a version of this film to international audiences they run the risk of impacting the box office (and subsequent home video) revenue, as pristine pirated copies will proliferate the net.

Haven't they already planned for BoG to be sold internationally though? Kinda hard to do so if they don't add subs
