Toei is creating the Dragon Ball Kai Boo saga specifically for international audiences. Do you think they'll be delivering episodes with an English subtitle track?Draken wrote:Haven't they already planned for BoG to be sold internationally though? Kinda hard to do so if they don't add subs

I was referring mainly to the Japanese home video release and how Japanese anime distributors tend to handle things. Yeah, more than likely we'll get BoG over here subbed or dubbed either in theaters or for the US home video release. I really don't see Toei Japan or Fox Japan putting out an English subbed version themselves, they'd leave that to the US branches/licensors.Draken wrote:Haven't they already planned for BoG to be sold internationally though? Of course, I'd love for the Japanese DVD/Blu-Ray to have an English translation. But I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait for the American release (theatrical or home video) or fansubs for it though.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I don't see many major Japanese films that have English subs on them from Japanese studios like Toho, Toei, Tsuburaya Productions, Kadokawa Pictures and Shochiku. Other then the newest Cyborg 009 film and Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy, I rarely see legit Japanese DVD's and Blu-Rays with subs.

Toei knows there is strong demand for this outside Japan so they should probably spend a tiny bit of money on some subs and they'll likely just make that much more.Hellspawn28 wrote:I don't see many major Japanese films that have English subs on them from Japanese studios like Toho, Toei, Tsuburaya Productions, Kadokawa Pictures and Shochiku. I could see Toei making more money if they added subs, though I will buy it regardless I'm sure some people wouldn't.

I think there is a very good chance subs will be included in the BluRay/DVD release of Battle of Gods. TOEI has obviously become more aware of, and more sensitive to, the international fans of the Dragonball series, as is shown with their past two Dragonball videos containing English subs (please correct me if I'm wrong), with English being the number 1 second language in the world, and they are creating the rest of Kai specifically for the international market.

The Japanese blu-ray of the Tiger & Bunny release actually did come with English subtitles, along with the movie release but it really depends. The creators of T&B know how popular the show is outside of Japan and the genre of the show really appeals to an intentional audience, so that was smart on their end (and a huge plus for me :3) .B wrote:I'd say it's 50/50. There's precedent for it. the 2012 JoJo anime, Tiger & Bunny... The Japanese Blu-ray for Baccano! has the English dub on it, but I'm not sure about English subs...
Of course, those are all non-Toei shows; in fact, all three shows are from a different studio; so they don't help much.
Regarding Dragon Ball, Toei should know how popular the franchise is outside of Japan and it would be in their best interest for them to put English subtitles on their release of the movie, as I could see lots of people wanting to import it, but I see that as an unlikely move by them.
Just another Dragon Ball fangirl in the world.

Here's something for those that are stuck outside of Japan. Hoping to sign up with an image hoster at some point today, but for now...I hope you can see these.

I can see the photos just fine, thanks for posting them. The art in this movie looks so good, I really can't wait to see the whole thing in high quality.

The way Beers is dancing happily along with everyone is hilarious to me for some reason.
And yes, I've been wanting to at least see a screenshot from Dende's healing of Videl and realizing about the baby. Videl's new look has grown on me, I have to admit too...doesn't hurt that she's kinda got some nice curves going on there heh. *insert Roshi laugh here*

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I have a question: kei17 said that SSG Goku absorbed Beers' final attack, while the synopsis says that Goku repelled it. Which one of them is correct?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
