Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I remember a while back on the site, there was a post concerning possible name puns. Mike was quick to dismiss "Whis" as a name because its katakana spelling was based on "Hwiskey." That being said, can "whiskey" be written two ways in Japanese, sounding like hwiskey and simply wiskey? I like Beers and Whis, but can it actually work?
Also, this random thought popped up. Where does Super Saiyan God fit into the idea of the legend of the Super Saiyan? Broli and Bardock (sort of) are the legends, but could it be that there was only a "God" form in the past, but the story was changed over time like in a game of telephone? I just find it weird how there would be six Super Saiyans when that was difficult to achieve in the past. Are Super Saiyans needed for the "God" form, or was it just like that in the film?

An interviewer asks, "The soundtrack in Sonic 3 has become legendary. Is it true that you worked with Michael Jackson on it?" Takashi Iizuka kills all of our hopes and dreams by replying, "You know, those are just rumors, and SEGA does not want to say anything about them. So they will forever be just rumors..." WHY!?

I..uh...noticed that too.Gyt Kaliba wrote:The way Beers is dancing happily along with everyone is hilarious to me for some reason.![]()
And yes, I've been wanting to at least see a screenshot from Dende's healing of Videl and realizing about the baby. Videl's new look has grown on me, I have to admit too...doesn't hurt that she's kinda got some nice curves going on there heh. *insert Roshi laugh here*

What's "hwiskey"? Toriyama just shortened the way they write "whiskey" so "Whis" as a name is correct.DBZfan29 wrote:I remember a while back on the site, there was a post concerning possible name puns. I think they just need six righteous Saiyans, no need for Super Saiyan.

There's this thing called the wine/whine merger (or whine/wine merger). Most words with a "wh" are pronounced with a "hw." For example, White House is pronounced "hwite house." In Japanese, it would be written as "Howaito hausu" (or something like that). People nowadays just say "wite." Anyway, whiskey should have the "hw" sound. I'm just wondering how whiskey is written in Japanese.alakazam^ wrote:What's "hwiskey"? So I just encountered a screen shot of the movie where you see little Vegeta. Firstly, he doesn't have his bangs?
And you can clearly see the Royal emblem on his left breast plate, yet they didn't include it in the merchandising (the bottles you can get at KFC, the Vegeta one has his armor as his symbol, which just looks weird).
So I find it strange that they remembered to use the Royal emblem in the movie but they forgot about Vegeta's bangs?

Oh, I see. "Whiskey" is written as "uisukii" and Beers attendant is "Uisu".
More than 500,000 people went to see the movie over the weekend.

A pure Saiyans hair doesn't change from when they are born, so the bangs were an anime mistake, and a filler scene. BOG is meant to follow the manga hence why there's no Gregory. Gregory isn't in right?

But, contrary to Bubbles, Gregory is not always with King Kai. Also, Kid Vegeta was made for the anime and doesn't appear in the manga.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:A pure Saiyans hair doesn't change from when they are born, so the bangs were an anime mistake, and a filler scene. Yeah but I'll just say it's following the manga, and that's why there's no Gregory.JeffJarrett wrote:But, contrary to Bubbles, Gregory is not always with King Kai. But Gregory appears in the "Goku and his Friends Returns" special, that one where Tarble was introduced. And in BOG, Tarble is mentionedJeffJarrett wrote:But, contrary to Bubbles, Gregory is not always with King Kai. You can allow Gregory if you want, and if it helps Toriyama did create him.dodonpa wrote:But Gregory appears in the "Goku and his Friends Returns" special, that one where Tarble was introduced. I think the whole Devil thing is just for intimidation.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

Gregory's appearance wasn't important, so you can just ignore his existence there.dodonpa wrote:But Gregory appears in the "Goku and his Friends Returns" special, that one where Tarble was introduced. And in BOG, Tarble is mentioned
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Aw damn, I've always liked Vegeta's bangs. I didn't realize it was an anime only thing. However, shouldn't that make the Royal emblem an anime only thing as well? Yet it's included in BoG.
Even so, I don't see why it was impossible for Vegeta to have had bangs. Maybe he cut them when he got older, or he has a receding hairline.

Yeah since I guess him talking about GT being a side story was over a decade ago from what I can remember. I guess at the time, he wanted to help promote GT and Toei didn't want him to say anything bad about it.Saiyan Prince Vegeta wrote:
5) Toriyama never said a bad thing about GT, he called it a side story sure, but not in a bad way at all, actually everything else he said about the series was good. But I guess he can't bad mouth it, it was probably getting him quite a bit of money.

I guess the bangs contradict a Saiyans hair never changing statement, but the crest just looks cool.VyeRo wrote:Aw damn, I've always liked Vegeta's bangs. I didn't realize it was an anime only thing. It looks asif he is a teenager when witnessing his father become a doormat for Beers, but that wouldn't make sense since he was abducted into Freeza's possesion when he was an infant with bangs.VyeRo wrote:Aw damn, I've always liked Vegeta's bangs. See, I don't know why it would contradict the statement that a Saiyan's hair never changes. Maybe he has a reciding hairline, which implies that even though his hair never changes shape, he can still lose hair due to age or something. But I've always just assumed he cut his bangs when he got older or let it grow out naturally. The latter seems more likely because it wouldn't require any grooming.
Okay, enough talk about Vegeta's hair.
