Yeah since the movie sounds like it gives you want from a DBZ movie. A movie with a fun and simple story with good action. I guess this could be my favorite DBZ movie since DBZ Movie 13.bleed0range wrote:That Kotaku review wasn't bad. Seemed fair and mostly positive.

I hope we can see the movie sometime soon. Though my guess is it could take another year till we can watch it.

Maintaining consistency isn't difficult, so if they got the interesting story part down it should be simple enough to do both. Especially since the inconsistency with the multipliers doesn't actually do anything to make the story more interesting.VegettoEX wrote:Because that stuff clearly doesn't matter when they want to put priority on telling an actual interesting story instead of maintaining consistency with numbers that were never intended to be consistent or relevant in the first place.
That's my take on it, anyway.

Can feel the hype slowly declining. It was fun while it lasted.
Looking forward to the home release.

I agree, it doesn't really take much effort to maintain consistency.Saiga wrote:Maintaining consistency isn't difficult, so if they got the interesting story part down it should be simple enough to do both. Are some fans really making an issue about Battle Power Ratings now? Really?! Just because something stated Base Son's BP was higher than Freeza's and Beers says this isn't so in the movie?
I mean, the story itself portrayed Battle Power Ratings as being unreliable and frankly stupid since pretty much every character who relies on them has their expectations blown right out of the water and gets hilariously crushed because of it. I mean, Vegeta even states on Namek after he figured out how to sense Ki and suppress his own that relying on the scouters and their Battle Power Rating readings was moronic.
That being said, stuff like this can always be hand-waved away by saying that Son was suppressing his Ki when Beers was getting a good read on him or something like that anyway.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
That's not true at all. The only reason the readings were unreliable is because the Earthlings have tricks like suppressing their power to lower their rating, however there are never cases where someone who's actual battle power is lower than an enemy overpowers that enemy or anything like that. It's only the ability to manipulate one's figure that makes scouters unreliable, the true figures have always shown to be pretty reliable.

There's still a few things I have left to do (regarding BOG)DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Can feel the hype slowly declining. It was fun while it lasted.![]()
Looking forward to the home release.
-Purchase and actually get to watch the entire movie
-Wait for my magazine movie-guide to arrive
-The DB x OP x T crossover this Sunday (Saturday for me)
-Check Pixiv for fun new BOG art via the "神と神" and "スーパーサイヤ人ゴッド" tags until I lose interest
-Read the remaining interview-translations regarding BOG that Kanzenshuu is most likely working on (I want to learn more about the original script; it really does feel like a totally different movie than what BOG became)
-Chozenshuu 4 in May should have more BOG info in there somewhere
-Get to hear the entire soundtrack
-Buy a ssjg Goku toy
After that though, who knows.
On hiatus.

But once the Scouters went out the window, NOBODY Operated on BP ratings for the rest of the series. The only place you get them at that point is the guidebooks.Saiga wrote:That's not true at all. I think Babidi had a different unit of measurement, but that scale was never explained.
Honestly, Battle Power Ratings were created entirely to have characters be able to quickly and efficiently go "Ha, I'm more powerful than you are" for a few arcs without needing too much exposition or setup.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
They still relied on battle power ratings. But the ratings weren't in numbers, or measured with scouters. From that point they continued to use ki sensing to their powers against one each other the exact same way battle powers were used.

After the Freeza arc, power rankings can only really be speculated based on plot developments, but any numbered power levels are completely worthless, and the discussions over them are an abomination of the fandom. All this wanking over what Super Perfect Cell's power level was or Super Buu's, it's the worst thing to come out of DBZ fandom by far. Shueisha and Toei only exacerbate the problem with their "official guides" with a lot of stupid nonsense fluff for the fans to get off on and half the pages are screenshots. Yeah, thanks for the screenshots, we totally couldn't have made our own in any software made after 1990. The only thing worse are those "anime comics" where they take screenshots and draw in dialogue balloons... for a show based on a manga! Seriously, what a waste of paper.

Re: Toriyama and Nakagawa interview
Considering how shy Toriyama is and how spastic-full-of-energy Nakagawa is, I can only imagine how this went.
Re: redon
Thank you so much~!
Oh the dancing! XD
Beerus using his claw as a utensil to stab that chunk of food. X3 Also him doing the "cat cleans its paw with its tongue" thing.
I like how they show what a different type of opponent he is from previous villains.

For those who've seen Battle of the Gods.. (Spoilers)
Unmarked spoilers from this point on: Don't read if you don't want it ruined.
Can anyone here honestly say they thought this was a good DBZ movie, even within the context of the other movies? I can see people who were fans of the new Bardock Special and the 2008 Jump special liking it, but I felt it was a general disappointment in every conceivable way save for 1. It was funny.
I went to the special screening in Fukuoka, where they showed Battle of the Gods, followed by 5 original 35mm print films, and the difference in quality was totally sobering. Everything from the animation, style, editing and even storytelling in Tree of Might and Fusion Reborn was leagues above Battle of the Gods in every area, which had awful animation, clunky fight scenes, and totally uninspired characters save for Goku, Bills, Bulma and Trunks. Battle of the Gods' backgrounds were nice and obviously the old mono audio tracks on the originals isn't too great. I had assumed that this was another cash grab, which we've seen a lot of lately, but then again so were the originals in a lot of ways.
The old films were fighting centric, and progressed the plot through fighting, which is what DBZ is about, even if it's not considered "good" storytelling. No only did it forsake the roots of what made the original series great, it proceeded to butcher Vegeta's character, turn Bulma into an even bigger bitch than she was before, and divide the rest of the screen time up between the other 20 characters that no one really got any time to do anything memorable anyway.
SSJ God should be SSJKawaii, which was the point that I knew the series had lost its focus and it's soul was going to be siphoned off into more terrible spin offs. I was a little relieved to see the non traditional ending, but it wasn't enough to save the rest of the film, which was TOO focused on fan service and stuffing as many gags as possible into the limited and ultimately drawn out time frame.
I'm not here to ruin any elses opinion of the film, but I can't be alone in feeling like everything I loved about the series is being reanimated into a lifeless money sucking zombie. Feels bad man.
