I need this guide. Does anyone know if you can order this online? (edit: just made a bid on eBay!)DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPfHXvQ_vFY
Neat little video. I really enjoyed it.
And Mai holding a gun to Trunks' head.
At Vision: it's a shame you didn't like the movie. But I guess not everyone has to like it. And Bulma is a bigger bitch in this movie? I thought she was on point from what I've read in the summary.

Do you think that Mai and Trunks are a couple in the time of 28th Tenkaichi Budokai?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I'll wait for an SH Figuarts SSJ God Goku.

That video of the theater was cool. Appeciated the flip through the booklet. I hope the character sheet for ssjg eventually appears somewhere.
That toy's hair looks the shade of pink I was using two colors ago. I guess I can just decide on my own which to use at this point. @_@

Re: For those who've seen Battle of the Gods.. (Spoilers)
I haven't actually seen the film, but how exactly was it "lifeless" if there were so many things the creators did. Toriyama wanted no destruction, he wanted it to feel like Dragon Ball, etc. If anything, specials like PTETSS were "lifeless" because they were focused on the fighting and were used to get people to buy another game. This idea you have that Z is all about the fighting is a little shallow because even Toriyama wanted the movie to go back to Dragon Ball's roots.Vision wrote:Unmarked spoilers from this point on: Don't read if you don't want it ruined.
Can anyone here honestly say they thought this was a good DBZ movie, even within the context of the other movies? I can see people who were fans of the new Bardock Special and the 2008 Jump special liking it, but I felt it was a general disappointment in every conceivable way save for 1. It was funny.
I went to the special screening in Fukuoka, where they showed Battle of the Gods, followed by 5 original 35mm print films, and the difference in quality was totally sobering. Everything from the animation, style, editing and even storytelling in Tree of Might and Fusion Reborn was leagues above Battle of the Gods in every area, which had awful animation, clunky fight scenes, and totally uninspired characters save for Goku, Bills, Bulma and Trunks. Battle of the Gods' backgrounds were nice and obviously the old mono audio tracks on the originals isn't too great. I had assumed that this was another cash grab, which we've seen a lot of lately, but then again so were the originals in a lot of ways.
The old films were fighting centric, and progressed the plot through fighting, which is what DBZ is about, even if it's not considered "good" storytelling. No only did it forsake the roots of what made the original series great, it proceeded to butcher Vegeta's character, turn Bulma into an even bigger bitch than she was before, and divide the rest of the screen time up between the other 20 characters that no one really got any time to do anything memorable anyway.
SSJ God should be SSJKawaii, which was the point that I knew the series had lost its focus and it's soul was going to be siphoned off into more terrible spin offs. I was a little relieved to see the non traditional ending, but it wasn't enough to save the rest of the film, which was TOO focused on fan service and stuffing as many gags as possible into the limited and ultimately drawn out time frame.
I'm not here to ruin any elses opinion of the film, but I can't be alone in feeling like everything I loved about the series is being reanimated into a lifeless money sucking zombie. Feels bad man.
Haven't people been complementing the animation and fighting, so how exactly are they "awful" and "clunky"...? Didn't Toriyama make sure the fighting was choreographed in such a way that nothing was destroyed? Haven't the people involved said the fighting was like nothing seen until now? Of course they could just be promoting, but I don't understand what's wrong with the animation. Movie 12's animation irks me with the bold outlines, so it's hard to see how it could have been so much better than modern animation.
The idea that Vegeta and Bulma have been misrepresented is a little bit of overreacting. Even Watanabe mentions how Vegeta really shines in this film. He certainly seems to with all of the things he does to protect his loved ones. He still has honor (something about being okay with being destroyed by Beers). He did something similar when he fought Fat Buu. Do you think Toriyama ruined him when he blew himself up? Then there's Bulma. We all know she's a bitch; we've seen it since the beginning of the manga. What ruins her character by having her care more about her party than the fate of the world?
Lastly, simply out of curiosity, what did you think of the JSAT special?
An interviewer asks, "The soundtrack in Sonic 3 has become legendary. Is it true that you worked with Michael Jackson on it?" Takashi Iizuka kills all of our hopes and dreams by replying, "You know, those are just rumors, and SEGA does not want to say anything about them. So they will forever be just rumors..." WHY!?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I've only just skimmed this thread, so I apologize if I'm about to repeat some of the things others have said.
So I got to see the movie today at the IMAX theater in Toshimaen.
First of all...eh, IMAX isn't really the way to go for this movie. I mean, yeah, the battle scenes sounded great, but some of the goofy sound effects they use for the more comedy-centric scenes were really grating. The movie ended two hours ago and my ears are *still* ringing.
So anyway, as for the movie itself...I thought it was pretty entertaining. The best part, for me, was Beers and Whis because they had tons of personality and really helped carry the movie. They were both just so great to watch and the way they played off each other was absolutely perfect. The fighting was alright, but I do wish some of the other Z warriors had gotten some more fighting screentime instead of being beaten away so quickly. I mean, they already established how powerful Beers was when he defeated SSJ3 Goku at the beginning of the movie...why do they need to show him swatting away the other Z warriors?
The only part I didn't really like was the Pilaf stuff in the middle. Not because it wasn't great (because it was!), but because it kind of screwed up the flow of the movie. Like, you're sitting there watching this birthday party where all the Z characters are having a great time and the gods are eating all this Earth food and we're jumping from character to character and then, BAM! - we're thrown into this long five minute segment featuring Pilaf and his gang. And it just keep going and going and going. I think it would have been a lot better if they either shaved some of that away or maybe just broke it up into two or three smaller scenes (maybe cut away when they find the Dragon Ball and then finish the rest of it later?) instead of having this one dragged out sequence that breaks up the flow of the movie.
Also, there was this one sequence during the final fight where Goku and Beers enter some canyon similar to the one Goku first fought Vegeta and the whole thing looks like a Playstation 2 era cut scene. It thankfully doesn't last *that* long, but it's still very jarring when you see it.
So overall, I had a good time at the theater. I'm not dying to see it again (especially not at Japanese movie theater prices!), but I'll definitely pick up the Blu-ray when it comes out.

I can kind of see where he's (she's?) coming from. There were parts of the movie where the in-betweeners didn't really do their job and we get this kind of shadowing effect because there aren't enough frames of animation. There are also moments in the movie where it's obvious that the characters in the background were drawn in a hurry compared to the ones in the foreground. There are a bunch of scenes in the opening, for example, where Goku is way in the back and he looks terribly off-model because the animators didn't bother filling in any of the details.DBZfan29 wrote:but how exactly was it "lifeless"

Will the One Piece x DragonBall x Toriko crossover be live streamed? I really wanna see it.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
The fact that the only big name key animator working on the fights seemed to be Shida Naotoshi (who did Gokuu and Beers flying up into space) was my indication that this movie wasn't going to have any particularly good fight scenes, I think. Having seen the Super Saiyan 3 fight and the fight with the others already it's pretty clear there was either a serious lack of budget (which, hey, it's Toei) or Hosoda Mamoru failed to design good fights. I'm leaning towards the former, but coming from TV I still think Hosoda should have known how to squeeze every last penny. There were supposedly more fights cut from the movie and I can't imagine how Toei's bean counters must have reacted when the staff asked for more money to do them.
It's a shame, especially when you're a fan coming off of Bleach: Jigoku Hen where guys like Tanaka Hironori and Kurita Shin'ichi did many, many high-quality cuts of battle animation in a movie five minutes longer than Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.

Doubtful. Mai should be in her 40s or 50s in reality, so not only would it be really weird, but I doubt Mai herself would put up with a relationship.Sani wrote:Do you think that Mai and Trunks are a couple in the time of 28th Tenkaichi Budokai?

how come we haven't got any official figures released from the movie?
Maybe Japan don't have many collectors? Which is a pity I would have loved a Bills and SSG Goku and maybe Vegeta(or maybe Krillin too, heck i'd buy em all lol) from the movie.

This, this and this! Thank you DemonRin for summing it up so niceDemonRin wrote:Are some fans really making an issue about Battle Power Ratings now? Really?! Just because something stated Base Son's BP was higher than Freeza's and Beers says this isn't so in the movie?
I mean, the story itself portrayed Battle Power Ratings as being unreliable and frankly stupid since pretty much every character who relies on them has their expectations blown right out of the water and gets hilariously crushed because of it. I mean, Vegeta even states on Namek after he figured out how to sense Ki and suppress his own that relying on the scouters and their Battle Power Rating readings was moronic.
That being said, stuff like this can always be hand-waved away by saying that Son was suppressing his Ki when Beers was getting a good read on him or something like that anyway.

All of those in-color character designs (minus the different head angles) are available on the official "DBZ: Battle of Gods" movie website.keikuro wrote:Hi! Does anyone knows where can I get this images in HQ??
I took the photos from the little scans that dblegens put in their web (I think it was from them)
Thanks!

Just go to http://www.dragonball2013.com/ and click on "Characters." From there, you can click on whichever DBZ character you like for their full image to show up. Then just drag and drop to your desktop. Voilà! (They're transparent images, too, so you don't get that dark background when you save 'em.)

Hiya folks, GTx10 here! I'm glad to be apart of the forum and flex my DB muscles!
Ill be honest, I'm loving SSG Son Goku but I'm not entirely happy with the movie. The nit picky fan in me has questions like:
Is SSG form stronger than SS4 form?
How does SS4 Gogeta compare to SSG Goku?
How to the Legends of the SSG and LSS mingle alongside each other?
Why did anyone doubt Goku's purity of heart? He can ride the Nimbus. (Doesn't the redrawn DBZ Manga ending show the Nimbus? Wait Uub was riding it right?) (Son rode the Nimbus in GT's ending)
I understand GT plays no role in this movie but I'm one of the few fans you likes GT so nitpicky I shall be!
