Thank you so so much for the scans, Redon!!
Thoughts on the Cinema Book:
-Pixiv spoilered me more than I thought having now seen these; that O.O Pilaf face, flashback!Bulma, and the tearful Chi-Chi one I recognize from fanart. Also Goku's (awesome) red sneakers.
-Speaking of, does Goku have the "GO" symbol on the back of his blue sweatsuit too? (So it's not just a jacket, it's a personalized one.) The screenshot of him jogging looks like there's something on the back of the jacket; if that is what's on there, cute~
-Trunks is blushing when Mai takes him hostage. XD
-Beerus feeling base Goku's arm up strikes me funny for some reason. XD
-ssjg Goku continues to be super-cute *_*
-I really like the "cat-like" screenshots of Beerus. X3 It's like; he is the god of destruction, but he's also a cat.
-Toriyama-ish cameo there with that farmer who looks an awful lot like Senbe, who in turn looks like Toriyama.

Yes, the farmer is similar to Senbei in the Dr. Slump remake.

Does the book spell Goku's name as "GOKOU" or "GOKUU"? The character still is blocking that part of the name, but I guess it looks more like an "O."

"GOKOU". You can tell the "O"s are rounder than "U"s.B wrote:Does the book spell Goku's name as "GOKOU" or "GOKUU"? The character still is blocking that part of the name, but I guess it looks more like an "O."
That Bingo quiz says that Bulma made her 38th birthday and that Beers had been asleep for 39 years. It means Beers went to sleep 6 years before planet Vegeta exploded and 1 year before Bulma was born. It does mess up the timeline even more, doesn't it?

It was in the manga, too. It happened when Bulma said something along the lines of, "hey, can you watch Trunks? I'm gonna go meet Trunks." They probably just put "Mr. & Mrs. Brief" out of convenience, rather than writing "Brief & Bulma's mama". They have such minor background roles in the movie, they didn't want to bother illuminating the fact that she doesn't actually have a name.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:She was shown with open eyes once (I'm not sure if this was in the manga though).jjgp1112 wrote:Wait...Bulma's mother has eyes?! So I guess they really were closed all that time...which makes things even more confusing
This book looks like it has a lot of fun stuff. They list hobbies for many of the characters. Gokuu's is fighting strong opponents (what, not reading and sports?
Most of the characters have text describing them as the "strongest xxx". Bulma is the Earth's strongest wife (err, Chichi might have something to say about that). Yamcha's title is "strongest bro"
There's a '?' on the relationship chart between Trunks and Mai (still kinda creepy, with her being actually in her late 40s at least [NOT 41, messed up movie timeline >_<]) Gokuu and Vegeta are "eternal rivals" (yeah, Gokuu has other rivals, but no other rivalries are "eternal"!)

What? Wait, don't they refer to Bulma's father as "doctor Brief" or some other title that goes with a family name? I mean, if you meet a scientist and he says "I'm doctor Smith", isn't it implied that Smith is the family name? Is it different in Japan, with people actually giving their first name (there would be a lot of doctors named the same then, lots of Doctor Jin, lots of Doctor Kenji, etc...)?sailorspazz wrote: They probably just put "Mr. & Mrs. Brief" out of convenience, rather than writing "Brief & Bulma's mama". Seems logical, she's a teen physically. It's as if you were immortal since you were a 18 years-old man, would you really hit on a woman that's 60 when you reach your own 60 years-old mentally when your body's still 18?sailorspazz wrote: There's a '?' on the relationship chart between Trunks and Mai (still kinda creepy, with her being actually in her late 40s at least [NOT 41, messed up movie timeline >_<]) Gokuu and Vegeta are "eternal rivals" (yeah, Gokuu has other rivals, but no other rivalries are "eternal"!)
If you're 40 and your body gets back to 15 years old and you had no lover when it happened, chances are you'll be back to dating a young girl that age that you find amazing, if you like her, you'll be attracted to her and it will be as natural as if you had never grown old! You're not an adult, not anymore, regardless of the knowledge and memories you have in your mind. There's nothing wrong in being attracted by someone who fits your physical age, even if you got that age by "cheating" (which can't really happen in reality since we still haven't found how to grant magical wishes and we haven't met Time Lords like the Doctor either...). It's just like you got some "bonus years" to catch a glimpse of the future before being rewinding time and being projected in your young body again: those "old" years never happened physically, they were "cancelled", you're back at where you were at that age as if you never grew old in the first place, so it's only natural you would have again that natural attraction for people your (new) age. As if you had simply be teleported 30 years into the future as a teen with some bonus memories of another life implanted in your mind. The mental age doesn't matter.

I bought it on eBay. It's not cheap but I liked the content of the book so much I couldn't resist. They also sell this book in combination with the goodies they hand out at the cinema (dragon ball radar, dragon ball markers and flyers) but that was even more expensive so I only bought the book + flyers.DHM211 wrote:Where could I order one?VyeRo wrote:I have just ordered this and it's on my way.redon wrote:Got Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Cinema book today, really nice. Well, the thing is that, unless you're attracted to pre-teens, you usually don't go back to that mindset once you're an adult. If you're 40, you don't start liking children just because you gained a body of a 12 year-old. Maybe you get more childish if your brain gets affected but I hardly think you'd have that orientation. It's just a gag, thoughCold Skin wrote:Seems logical, she's a teen physically. It's not a Japan thing, it's a Dragon Ball thing. Excluding the Son men, no one in Dragon Ball has family names. It's pointed out by Videl that having family names is unusual when she first meets Gohan. Many (including myself for quite a number of years) believed that "Brief" was a surname since it's attached to the title of Dr., but it's actually his first (well, only) name. Bulma's mother has never been given a proper name, and is always listed in guidebooks as "Bulma's mama".Cold Skin wrote:What? Now I'm combining both the host club and yakuza versions of Yamcha into one...hmm, I wonder if such a thing as a yakuza host club exists? A bunch of surly guys yelling at girls as they take their orders...it could work
I can imagine that Vegeta might find the title of "eternal rival" too flowery. "It...it's not like I want to be your rival forever or anything!" *blush* Tsundere Vegeta

Y'know, I really do wonder how Yamamuro recreated his old Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 character designs in the exact same positions. Did he just digitally trace and color them or did he draw by eye?
Another interesting note: there is no Super Saiyan 2 Son Gokuu design listed there, but a screen capture from the movie. Did Yamamuro just not make one? If so, I wonder how the scene with Super Saiyan 2 was animated? Hmm...
EDIT: Oh wait, those designs don't have Gokuu's kame symbol in the front like his normal form design does!

Honestly, the way the original manga is set up, it seems that Super Saiyan 2 was never really "Super Saiyan 2" but just a "Hyper Super Saiyan" kind of thing, sorta similar to the Grade forms. It seems that SSJ2 has no relevance, anywhere. It's like, only the video games and stuff created "SSJ2" out of convenience. SSJ1 and SSJ2 are so similar you can practically lump them together as one form.JulieYBM wrote:Y'know, I really do wonder how Yamamuro recreated his old Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 character designs in the exact same positions. With the way Toriyama never really made it clear, yeah, I can see that being the case. Other than the time he had Gokuu show off all the transformations to Babidi and Majin Boo Toriyama never seemed to clearly know what he was doing or not. "What, there's barely any change!" That would go to help explain why Toriyama forgot about the form. This always seems to carry over to Toei's projects, too...NeoKING wrote:Honestly, the way the original manga is set up, it seems that Super Saiyan 2 was never really "Super Saiyan 2" but just a "Hyper Super Saiyan" kind of thing, sorta similar to the Grade forms. That's how I view it as well. For me, the only real Saiyan transformations are Oozaru, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 3, and Super Saiyan God. Super Saiyan Grade 2, Super Saiyan Grade 3, and Super Saiyan 2 are sub-forms of the Super Saiyan form, while Super Saiyan Full Power is an upgraded version of Super Saiyan.NeoKING wrote:Honestly, the way the original manga is set up, it seems that Super Saiyan 2 was never really "Super Saiyan 2" but just a "Hyper Super Saiyan" kind of thing, sorta similar to the Grade forms. Yeah. Many people have suggested this in the past, but ever since Toriyama mentioned that he thought the long-haired form was Super Saiyan 2, I've felt more and more like Goku casually labelling the sparky form as such was arbitrary--just a way to lead into a form stronger than it. There's also the fact that he quite often draws the regular Super Saiyan form with sparks these days.JulieYBM wrote:With the way Toriyama never really made it clear, yeah, I can see that being the case. I mean, arbitrary names are fine--I don't think we should all stop calling the sparky form Super Saiyan 2 or anything like that--but it does make me think about it a little differently.
