Actually, the Japanese dvd/bluray released by Warner Home Video (Japan) has English subtitles.
Yeah, but where's my domestic US Blu-Ray? Gimme gimme gimme!

Why would there be a U.S. release?

We're really not entitled to anything. We're just some nerd who buy some anime. Unfortunately we have to wait on Funimation to deliver the goods.

Yeah, we're really not. I would very much like an English release, though. But with that estimate I guess I'll be waiting a long time.

Man, I hope you're joking. Some of the stuff on this thread is bumming me out. Being devoted to something doesn't entitle you to anything. There is no transaction in the world that works like that. It's a two way agreement. You can't say "I want it, so you HAVE to give it to me!" Like, if you love someone and they don't love you back, they do not owe you an ounce of affection. No matter how much you obsess over them or buy them things. FUNimation, TOEI, none of them ever agreed to give you anything if you were enough of a fan.

I love Dragon Ball too, but this is just entertainment we're talking about here, guys!

Pfft, two years. Some people waited 24 years for a proper dub of Dragon Ball Movie One.

Not to fussed about the two year wait to be honest. It's long for me to justify purchasing the Japanese DVD...hopefully the special edition. I really can't bring myself to blow $70 for a Blu-Ray that I can't play. :|

A lot of Japanese anime Blu-Rays tend to be region free from my understanding. I live in Australia and own both the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Blu-Ray Complete Box and all 15 Pocket Monsters feature films on Japanese Blu-Ray and they all play fine on my Region B Blu-Ray player.

I'm not sure about foreign films in general, but in terms of anime there's uh... Digimon: The Movie? Which considering that it's three movies made into one probably isn't the best example of being able to do a good job on this.

Guys, Birus is a cat who spends half the film eating.

Why has no one made a "Cat Loves Food Joke"? :?

Digimon: The Movie is actually pretty good aside from the edits necessary to stitch the three specials together. That really hurt it.

I feel like Digimon Adventure (the one with Greymon vs. Parrotmon) lost a fair bit of it's charm in the dub, particularly with Kari constantly wisecracking and the first 02 movie sucked in Japanese anyway. I'll admit that I quite enjoy the dubbed version of Our War Game (the part with Diaboromon) though. And funnily enough, Our War Game shares a lot of similarity with Summer Wars by the same director, which is licensed by Funimation.

Also, the music score was entirely replaced. Which admittedly, also happened to the Digimon TV series but still.

Yeah, it was Our War Game that I was thinking of when I said that.

Heh, funny that the Digimon movie gets brought up - I actually used to wonder, back before we got the movies, if FUNi would capitalize on DBZ's success and stitch together the three Broly films into one feature film or something. I'm glad they didn't in retrospect, but the idea did cross my mind a lot when I was younger.

But I agree with everyone concerned at how some others are reacting. It's driving me batty how entitled a lot of fans (not just of DBZ, not even just of anime, just...fans, in general) are these days.

In the 90's AB Groupe was the one who first dubbed the Dragon Ball series and allowed the rest of the world to discover the Dragon Ball franchise.

There was so freaking much I wish I could go back in time just to buy whatever was in sale, I couldn't 'cos I was a kid back then.

What FUNimation did better than AB Groupe was releasing the DBZ series in its original Dragon Box Z replica as it is, but overall they [AB Groupe] tend to have better releases as 'standard' for the normal audience than FUNi's Orange Bricks.

Anyway, I hope FUNimation will bring up a BD/DVD Combo of DBZ:BoG or even a Limited Edition with a Steelbook Blu-ray (inc. DVD), Super Saiyan God figure and a book. < This would be awesome.

By the time Funimation gave that "maybe 2 years" answer at the Sakura Con panel, I had already left the room (I waited until they made their big acquisition announcement, and when I saw it was Psycho Pass and nothing Dragon Ball related, I got out of there). Probably a good thing I wasn't there anymore, 'cause I would have flipped a table at that answer  (well, I actually did flip a table when they didn't announce Battle of Gods, but just a tiny paper one my husband made for me to help confine my rage. But I would have found and flipped a much bigger one if I heard the 2 years comment!).

They shouldn't have spoiled us, man. They shouldn't have spoiled us and did simultaneous worldwide streaming of the JSAT special with subtitles for many different languages. Now that we know they can do that shit, we expect that shit to happen every time. But it's not happening. They gave us false hope. Curse you, Toei/Shueisha/whoever!

I've never done it before, but I think I might have to import the Japanese DVD when it comes out. Yeah, it'll be hella expensive, but dammit, I need this movie inside my eyeballs as soon as possible (legally)! Well, if there's some kind of announcement about US screenings or a release date by the time the DVD comes out, I might just hold out, but if not I am buying the shit out of that import, exorbitant cost and all!

You're forgetting that's a JSAT Special while Battle of Gods is a film. They never gave me that impression.

Well, kind of figured that would happen. Why do I get the feeling that Fox's involvement is largely a rights retention thing?

Like I've said on another forum, I don't want Fox anywhere near this movie! Why did Toei have to partner with them anyway? Just so it could be in theatres?
