I found this crossover to be really entertaining. All the interactions seemed fun, cute and nice (although it irked me that Luffy went all "Hey Toriko!! :P :P " but then went "Oh, that Goku guy is also something"... He should be more familiar to Goku, but whatever). And I'm glad Goku was shown to be superior and remained so without greatly outshining the other two protagonists.

Shame on you, Gohan. Waiting for the babboon to let you pass and being caught by the tentacle monster? No, just no.

I also found it funny when they made Robin, Piccolo and the other guy question the bald one for arranjing the tournment so that they could all appear together. "Hey, what's your REAL intentions, huh?". What? That was random, but you three look good together.

Oh yeah, the Vegeta scene was hilarious as well. I totally called for them to still be fighting at the end.

Well...it was fun, I guess. Some of the animation was very cheap and the enemy was kinda lame so I don't think it has much, if any, replay value.

I can see Funimation potentially picking this up though. They own all three properties here, right?

There have been two previous One Piece/Toriko crossovers aired in this timeslot though, while this is Dragon Ball's first televised crossover special.

Could someone just put a picture of shirtless Super Saiyan 3 Goku up, please? I can't download the full patch of pictures.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Nothing amazing, but it was okay for what it was. Also we got some BOG BGM. :) The main one I noticed was when the fish monster thing appears, the BGM is 'Beers approaching shadow' I think.

I can't believe Piccolo did more in this special than Gohan and in BoG, very entertaining special.

Loved it. It wasn't really a high budgeted production (Toriko and One Piece characters seemed OK, but the ones from Dragon Ball were a bit out-of-model most of the time), but bits of the final fight were awesomely animated (the Kamehamehas and the Genki-dama 8) ).
Though I liked the fact that Vegeta kept fighting with the other two (and I was totally expecting Goku to ask where he was, as he did  ) they could have animated a different bit for the end.
I noticed the BoG soundtrack mainly on that scene where everybody is eating.
Also loved how they gave a line to almost everybody from Dragon Ball (well, minus the cameos like Popo or Karin).

Gonna watch it again when it gets subbed.

I hated that Vegeta was left out after that, I just kept wondering where he was. :P

Just saw it, and it was great. I loved the fact that even though Goku was nerfed, he combined all of his powers in the end to defeat Akami, with Luffy & Toriko using their strongest attacks as well (I assume that this is Toriko's strongest attack?).

Also, Beers & Whis make a cameo appearance in the ending credits!
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Yeah this crossover was actually pretty awesome afterall

I'm gonna be so sad when Dragon Ball dissapears again, I really want a new series :(
(then again it was that train of thought is what gave birth to GT)

Hey guys, I just made two Flickr sets with almost 400 screen shots between the two episodes, you can find them here:

I wasn't the one who took these screen shots, Jacob was providing a link to these shots earlier in the thread and I just downloaded them and put them on Flickr for convenience!

I felt a little uncomfortable while watching this, and it turned out that the footage was a strange mix of 24p and 60i shots.

The screen captures from 2ch did look very macro-blocky. I wonder if Fuji TV messed up the conversion?

True butOne Piece and Dragon Ball had Cross Epoch, that Toei crossover and also Dream 9. Even if not "officially", they should know each other.

It was definitely fun and I had a smile on my face watching the whole thing; I wouldn't mind seeing another special or crossover every now and then.

It's kind of a shame that Toei doesn't seem to put more money of effort into their TV animation compared to their film projects. The animation for both One Piece and Toriko (two of their biggest franchises) is noticeably poorer than Toei's TV animation from the 90's (Sailor Moon/DBZ/Slam Dunk all seem to be more on-model, fluid, and consistant than OP/Toriko)... Did many of their better animators leave the company?
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

My favorite thing about One Piece is when Luffy "punches" someone. I use quotation marks because what actually happens is his arm flies across the screen, and then a smash cut to the fist already planted in a dude's face so you don't actually see it connect, and then the camera shakes to give a false sense of impact. At a point, it's more fun to pick out the shortcuts Toei uses to "animate" than watch the actual show. It's basically a slideshow.
