Yes please. I hate when it looks pink.

I'm of a completely different opinion regarding this reclassification of SSJ2. IMO what we're doing here is more "rationalizing a change" (a retcon, simply put) than "realizing something that was always like that". I mean if SSJ2 was just a step and SSJ3 was the real second form of SSJ then why did they call SSJ3 "SSJ3", even just once?

If the SSJ2 form was used extensively in this movie, I doubt we would be here in this topic saying that it was never a true distinct SSJ form.

I agree. And while it's true SSJ2 isn't THAT different than SSJ, in Gohan's case, the difference is really apparent. So it has grounds to be a standalone form.

It doesn't help that, by the Boo arc, Goku's the only one who actually looks any different between Super Saiyan 1 and Super Saiyan 2, and even his differences are minimal. The different aura is usually the biggest and most obvious change in the manga, but obviously Toei's never really bothered to be consistent with those differences.

Honestly, in most of these cases where Vegeta's transformed, you could just as easily assume he's at Super Saiyan 2.

Most likely #1 again at the box office. I don't think else major came out this weekend in Japan. I think the movie should do fine until Super Hero Taisen Z comes out and knocks it out off from the box office.

We'll probably learn how well it did over the weekend a few hours from now. The work day is just starting in Japan.

I hope it did well. TuT

Even before this movie, people have been saying that they didn't see SS2 as a "true" transformation. However, I'm not one of them. I still believe that Super Saiyan 2 is exactly what it's called, and I was just talking in "what if?" terms more than anything else.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Julian, Kei, and AnimeMaakuo have seen the movie in theaters. They're the only ones on the forum who've seen the whole movie as far as I know.

I know we are not supposed to endorse piracy but... God, I'd kill to watch that damn thing!
Oh well, have to wait that it comes out on DVD or whatever so I can buy it...

The earliest I think the DVD may be out by would be July. I base this on when Toei's 2012 March-annual-Precure-crossover-movie was released on DVD (source: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TCED-1536) I say annual because I think this is like the 5th year in a row they've done this. Though Toei's so super-prompt when it comes to Precure, BOG's DVD release is probably gonna be more like September I bet. :(

The first picture is simply a suppressed state. It looks very similar to his rested Ssj state before the start of the Cell games in fact. The anime is also not a good way to gauge whether someone is a Ssj2 or not because Toei refuses to animate lightning  . The manga presents a very clear picture of what the differences are in Ssj and Ssj2. Gohan was not a Ssj2 against Dabura.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

But the hair on Gohan looks SSJ2, it's just the lack of lightning that makes it curious...but Dabura was clearly winning in the long run, Gohan looked more exhausted from the fighting. He showed Kibito SSJ2 rather casually. Why wouldn't he bust out SSJ2 if he was having troubles when he did so earlier for no real reason (Kibito just wanted to see SSJ1)? I feel he was supposed to be SSJ2, and the lightning was just forgot at the time (rushing out a chapter, or something).

It's Super Saiyan (Full Power) Gohan. His SS hairstyle is different in the High-school Arc & 25th Tenkaichi Budokai Arc because his base hairstyle is different as well. One month passed since then.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

It doesn't look like it. His eyes would suggest he is in that rested state. It would explain why he has 1 strand sometimes and 2 another.

I went and saw this yesterday. I really enjoyed it and even though my Japanese is terrible it was really easy to follow.
