Definitely feeling it. Seeing all this new dragonball stuff happening makes me feel like a 13 year old all over again.

I've been a fan since September of 1996. Who wants to set the bar higher? Any pre-90 fans?

Re: Do You Feel Old Yet?
Didn't Kunzait get into the series in the early 90s?

Seeing how the VizBigs, Kai, the Kanzenban, and the JSAT special were released so long ago when they still seem so new to me... doesn't make me feel too old, it makes me feel more like I got back into the fandom too late.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I'm in my mid twenties, I don't feel old. But sometimes when I speak to my younger cousins I definitely feel older.

Hmm... let's see. In five years, when you're pushing 30, you will feel old. 22+5=... my age. Aaaaand now I feel old.dprez wrote:I'm a 22 year old Dragon Ball fan, and I don't feel old yet. In about 5 years though, when I approach 30, I will probably start to feel old.

Original Anime Nippon Ijin Taishô 2007,JSAT 2008,Dragon Ball Kai ,The Plan to Erradicate the Saiyans,Dragon Ball Z Episode of Bardock. I saw them pass before my eyes and I realized neither the time that has passed.
Now came the Cross Over the Dream 9 and Dragon ball Z Battle of Gods can not believe I've gotten these days.
These days I was seeing the opening of Brazilian Dragon Ball, I felt old.A series was shown here in 1996 somewhat distant.

Yeah, both Kunzait and Daimao pre-date FUNimation in terms of fandom (the latter in a very active online way, and obviously transitioning into a professional way a few years later). Plenty of our European friends here pre-date FUNimation with their fandom, as well.

Re: Do You Feel Old Yet?
Howdy!
This seems perfect for a first post.
I first saw a DBZ character in an issue of EGM around 1992 or 1993. It was on some envelope art they published. A little
later they did a review on the then current arcade game, and 8 year old me thought it looked super-awesome.
Flash-forward about 3 years and I was at my then best friend's house. His older brother was a big nerd, and has some unsubbed "Japanimation". I'm fairly certain it was the episodes with Son Goku fighting Perfect Cell. I thought it was the most amazing cartoon I had ever seen. I remember riding my bike up to the local library to use the 28.8 kbps connection to load up pictures of Son Goku, which would often take half an hour, so I could print them off and then tape them up in my locker. I'm remember voraciously reading any website that would have a glimmer of info. Heh. I remember when Freeza was called "Freezer".
When the dub was first airing, it was on Sundays in my neck of the woods, I was in 6th or 7th grade, and glued to my set each week. I had a DBZ shirt that was blue, logo on the right breast, with the group shot from the second version of "Cha-la-Head-Cha-la" on the back. I would wear this while watching the show. My then dorkiness breaks space-time and shames me to this day. Every week, I would wait for Son Goku to go Super Saiya-jin. I was convinced he would do it while fighting Vegeta.
I still remember Son Goku arriving on Namek to fight Recoome. Then..repeats? Oh no! Luckily, I had then found "the source". At a rinky-dink comic-con held monthly at a Knight of Columbus, a corpulent bastard, always wearing a Confederate flag bandana, had tables and tables of fan-subbed bootlegs. DBZ was 3 episodes a tape. $10 a pop. Terrible quality with subs by Anime Labs. Oh lord, did I have the wrong idea about the show.
So, I've been a fan since about 1995.

Re: Do You Feel Old Yet?
I've felt old since I was 13, for reasons unreleated to Dragonball.
That said, I remember watching the first dub of DB in 1996, particularly the "Penalty is Pinball" episode. I saw DBZ for the first time 3 or 4 years later, d wondered why everyone was grown up now, and who Krillin was. I remember watching the Buu Saga new on Cartoon Network, and thinking Buu would end up a good guy after giving that kid milk.
I remember joining this site as an ignorant person in 2002 or so, and being kicked off for being an ass. Then after maturing a bit, joining up again later. I remember VegettoEX bitched me out on the podcast once for entering a contest from multiple e-mail addresses. That must've been 8 or 9 years ago now.
Also, VHS tapes are far from useless. They're still the best way to permanently record and archive TV. DVR's are more convienient, but far from permanent, and DVD-R's are tricky and fragile. Then again, I'm probably the world's biggest VHS advocate. I have well over 4,000 of the things. Floppy Disks, on the other hand, have fallen into uselessness in the last 10 years or so. About the only thing they're good for is an emergency boot for a computer that doesn't support booting from CD or USB. And updating bios flash memory.
I remember feeling old the first time when I was about to turn into a teenager. It got worse at 18, and much worse at 20. Now I'm 29, with 30 staring me in the face. I'll feel really old next year =\

Honestly, the fact that the whole series started in 1984 makes me feel pretty young by comparison. I'm almost 10 years younger than it.
This will never not be my sig:

Re: Do You Feel Old Yet?
I'm most likely on the younger end of the people who've posted in this thread (I'm currently 21), but I do remember when the things DragonBoxZTheMovies said in his first post in this thread happened or began, with the exception of the podcast. I've been listening to the podcast since the summer of 2007 when I started regularly visiting Daizenshuu EX.
I wouldn't say I feel old yet, but the fact that I've been fan of Dragon Ball for 13-and-a-half years and a member of this forum for 4-and-a-half years does make me feel kind of old sometimes. The fact that people who are around a decade older than me are posting here still makes me feel pretty young though (no offense).

Re: Do You Feel Old Yet?
I didn't feel old until I read this thread...and then it kicked in. So basically, I hate you all right now. So, so much. Grr.
In all seriousness, I do feel old at times when I remember how things have changed since I first got into DBZ, and I wasn't even there from the start of it in the US. I became a fan roughly in the 6th grade, I graduated in 2007, and I am now 23 years old (approaching 24 this year). It's already been a good handful of years since Season One (yes, the orange brick) was released, which I remember having my art teacher in school help me order (he was always handy with stuff like that) from RightStuf, since I had no idea that Wal-mart would end up actually stocking the sets (which is how I got pretty much the rest of them).
So I wasn't even out of high school yet when the Season Set run began...and now it's long over, we've got a complete Dragon Box set for the Z material, we've had a crapload of new games I haven't even gotten to play yet. We've also had Evolution, Kai, new features like the JSAT special and Episode of Bardock, and now the first full-length feature film for the franchise, and hopes seem set high on there being even more down the road.
So yeah, I feel old, considering VHS tapes were still very much the norm (at least in my area) with DVD only first starting to gain it's foothold, when I first got into DBZ. But I also feel young knowing that there's a whole era of fans older than me too. I'm in the prime age range right now where I can talk to fans of any age without feeling odd, and I can keep an eye on the younger fanbase to see what kind of fans they'll turn out to be in the future. It's fun.

It's weird to think there's an entire group of fans of DBZ that doesn't remember the Ocean dub. They may have heard about it, or even seen it, but they weren't there when it was happening.
I don't really feel old, as much as I feel time is going by too damn quickly.
