Dragonball Z Manga question

Post by samuraix123 » Wed Apr 17, 2013 9:38 pm

Hello everyone!
I just got my Vol 1 of Dr. Slump in the mail today. Yay! :D And now I'm about to get Vol 1 of Dragonball Z by VIZ. is there anything I should know about this release? pros and cons? thanks guys
5 bucks! you can't beat that. :)

If I can keep finding these for that price, I'll buy all the Z manga series.

Edit - OH! How far does Vol 1 go? Does it end on Namek?
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

It ends with Goku dying with Raditz. And it's slightly censored.

It's also two chapters shorter than usual, since chapters 193 and 194 are included in Viz's Dragon Ball volume 16 instead (to split the series cleanly).

I think I'll just order this first. 3 in 1 doesn't sound so bad. :) Start with Dragonball and work my way up.

I've never watched all of Dragonball, so why not? :P

The VizBigs are very good releases, yes, but the Dragon Ball ones are visually censored.
I noticed more dialogue censorship with the Z VizBigs (for example, when Raditz dies, in the tankoubon, he yells "Damn you!" and the VizBigs change the line to "Curse you!")
The VizBigs do, however, fix many translation problems.
If you would like to see a more detailed comparison with the U.S. tankoubon releases, refer to my old thread.

All in all, yes, by American standards you are making the best choice regarding manga that is currently available. :)
So mondo lame.

Some original colour chapters printed in Weekly Jump are indeed present in the VizBigs, but only some. Other colour chapters are printed in monochrome, but it's better than nothing.
So mondo lame.
