Charisma? What charisma? :)

Tell you what. Take that avatar into MS paint and draw some sunglasses, then I'll mistake it for charisma. Until then, a piracy website.

The weakest Maximal of them all...
but slightly less annoying than Black Arachnia (or however you spell that word).

He wasn't weak in Beast Wars. Okay, he wasn't physically strong, but I'd much rather have had him to get me out of a jam than Cheetor. It was only in Beast Machines he became a complete pussy (no pun intended. Not that it was much of a pun anyway).

Besides, the fact that I prefer him to the UULTRA STRONG characters shows that I'm more concerned with personality than power, and thus indicates that I have good taste. Yes.

Black Archnia is correct. And she was also far, far better in Beast Wars than Beast Machines (especially when she was still a Predacon).

Anyway, I'm trying to use my charisma to stop Amy from being evil. Has it worked yet?

To keep this thing somewhat DB related, didn't it seem like Funimation tried to make THEIR Kuririn the DB equivolent of a Rattrap (who btw, I was just teasing about him being the weakest, especially b/c he's so steetyzz with all the hippinest BW ebonics) with all the sarcasm and "I'm weak but I'll fight with my head" mentality. I guess Kuririn also had a quasi ebonics thing going on in a few eps too for a short stint.

And yes, Cheetor absolutely sucked ass. But he was targeted for 5 year olds, so...When he became transmetal 2 I almost never forgave the show, epecially after Dinobot (who had plenty of charisma despite being one of the stronger guys) didn't get shit. But his clone was sure bad ass. Know who else is badass? Goku.

See? I tied it altogether in a nice neat DB relevent package.

Apparently, in the Japanese dub of Beast Wars, they made Rattrap into a "cute" character. The mind boggles.

Besides, Rattrap wasn't a "I'm weak so I'll fight with my head" character. He was a "I'm weak so I'll get someone bigger to do the fighting while I go off and watch TV" character. Or a "I'm weaker than this guy, so I'll just use high powered explosives instead of fighting him hand to hand" character. He ruled.

Kuririn is a really hard character to dub, I think. Klassen's voice worked at first, but he went too far into cute and just became "whiney". At least Strait gave him some guts (and a bit of dirty humour too). Better actor too. (At least, after season 3).

Dinobot is badass. But so was Primal. Primal after he got his first TM form, and kicked the shit out of the Pred army: hardcore. Goku beating Freeza: Hardcore. But Gohan beating Cell? Dinobot beating EVERYONE? Super hardcore to the extreme. "A stick? Against a Transmetal? You're old, useless, obselete! What can you possibly do?" "Improvise". And down the bitch goes.

Cheetor wasn't sucky though, really. It is a tribute to the BW writer's that he was actually quite likeable. Shit happened to him, which is probably why I liked him. And he did have some charisma .Plus his TM 1 form was cool. DBZ never really had that the stereotypical American-cartoon-kick-identification-character. The kids were cute, but they were rarely there to make young children feel cool about themselves. I can't even get annoyed over Chaitzu like I can over Wheelie.

It's also interesting to note that the Japanese seiyuu who voiced Rattrap was Yamaguchi Kappei, the voice of male Ranma and Inu-Yasha, so you know right there what kind of personality they were aiming for. And I liked Black Arachnia in BW, just not in BM. But then again I hate everyone and everything about BM. It should rot! *ahem* As for Liam's point about there not being any indentifiable kids in DBZ, aside from Gohan, I agree with that. The only other significant child is Dende, and he isn't a fighter. Perhaps that's one thing that the Buu saga is better for, in that it has Chibi Trunks and Goten. I think kids probably get a kick out of their "bratty" antics, whereas we want to throttle them for it. 8)

I wouldn't really call Gohan a "kid identification" character. He had an IQ of at least 5 million. And he could fly and blow up mountains and stuff. Sure, Cheetor might have been a flying Cheetah, but he was stupid.

Actually, thinking about it, there are two distinct types of character like that in the US. The "little guy who gives all", like Bumblebee and Wheelie (hnng), and the "cool dude" like Hot Rod and Cheetor.

Japanese cartoons tend more towards uber-cute characters. Hence Rattrap being turned into one, I suppose.

True, true. I wouldn't actually call Gohan a "regular" kid, which is why I mentioned Trunks and Goten. And yes, Cheetor ain't "the sharpest tool in the shed". Hey, anyone who thinks calling Megatron "Mega-Dork" is a brilliant insult, needs some serious tips from Rattrap. :D

I'm trying to think of any insults Corbett-voiced Goku used, but I keep coming back to Schemmel's "Frosty Freeza". And then my mind shuts down.

(Still, "mega-dork" is mildly better than "Decepti-goons", which was used at least 5 times an episode during G1.)

"Decepti-goons" is pretty pathetic. :? I think the best dub insult in DBZ was when Gohan called Dodoria a "big, pink Gumball"! Ooooh, that's harsh! I bet he's scared now!

Gohan said that Nappa smelled like toenails. Last time I checked, my toenails didn't smell weird in the slightest.

Just so you know, that was less than a minute ago. Gotta do research for my posts!

Well, there's always Kaio's "Fat fucking pint", but I'm not sure if that counts.

Uhh, ya okay, whatever Zacko. :? And yes he said that right after the "gumball" part too! Woah, that dub rewrite sure makes Gohan a crazy rebel doesn't it!
