I'd say try the movies, specifically 4 and 10. Worked for me, even though I still haven't actually seen a whole arc of One Piece outside of the 4Kids dub, which got me into the series intially. I plan on picking the Manga at some point, although I hear Oda has problems with drawing action scenes.

Um, anyway, this ain't Arlong Park Forums. :P

Everyone should watch the sixth One Piece movie. It's from the Summer Wars director and people who don't enjoy OP still manage to find a kick out of it.

Uh, Dragon Ball forum... One Piece Movie 6 is better than pretty much all of those movies, I suppose?

Another English review of the film, mostly deals with the 'C-word' though:

What's the "C-Word"?

Considering the plots of a lot of the previous movies, what exactly makes up an "average DBZ film" is exactly what we do not get here.

A lot of previous movies felt more like "filler arc in 40 minutes" instead of actual films.

Don't worry dude, I couldn't get into One Piece either.

I'll give those recommended movies a shot one day though. Reminds me of my friend who hated InuYasha the show - but she enjoyed the films for it.

When it comes to plot, I dare to say BoG has the best one until now.
Still need to watch it before I'm sure though.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

To be off-topic for just a second. One Piece...but it definitely takes some patience getting into. Not that the first few arcs aren't enjoyable, they're great. It's just that, at least for me...once you get into Water 7/CP9 and start seeing the scope and size of the world Oda created, that's when you really start to realize how great it is. (Again, though...that's a good 225 episodes in.)

Eh, the last part of your post is what I mean - its always like "it will click with you around 200 episodes/25 volumes in" - eh, I mean that is an awful long time I will have to invest in something for a chance that it'll will me over.

But I hear Toonami is going to air the series soon starting around episode 200, and seeing that I do tune into Toonami I'll be crossing paths with the series.

If there's a new movie, Bills won't appear or he'll just make a brief cameo or be mentioned.
I hear Uisu said that Birusu will wake up again in three years. I don't think we see the last of Birusu.

Yeah, I'm not saying you won't like it until then. Because it could definitely win you over way before that. I'm just saying that, when those arcs occurred, it really clicked with me. But yeah I'd definitely check out the Toonami airings, as there's a little "recap" arc starting at Episode 220. Also, check out FUNimations Youtube or official OP website for informational vids about the crew/etc.

...uh....so about that BoG film?

If there were another film, I'm not sure if Birisu would make an appearance. I mean, given that it was directly stated he would wake up in 3 years, it's possible. But if he was only mentioned in passing, then I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: OP

Casual One Piece fan here. I read the manga, watch the movies, but don't really follow the anime. I don't bother to remember who every last character is because I'm just not that invested in it, but I really enjoy the Straw-hats antics and I can appreciate Oda's passion for his work along with his love of world-building even if I don't always pay attention to exactly what he's building. My advice for anyone interested in the series, but doesn't want to wait until many volumes/chapters in; start with the movies. Movie 4 is a good starting point imo. I also like Movie 6, Strong World, and OPZ (though Movie 6 is kind of its own creature). But yeah, OP's manga/anime is really slow at the beginning; I probably wouldn't have gotten into it if I hadn't been on a hunt to find an alternative to Naruto back in whatever year that was (07? 08?).

Re: BOG sequel

I want one and I haven't even seen the first one yet. >_<;; *Feels kinda bad about that.*
You know, if it were to take place 3 years in-story after BOG, toddler!Pan and toddler!Bura would be around; I'd so watch Vegeta balancing taking care of his 2 year old daughter while saving the universe. :3
Also, more bishoujo senshi ssjg Goku can only be a good thing for me. X3
On hiatus.

As this a franchise that more or less thrives on the next strongest opponent, I would expect Beers and Whis to not show up at all or play an extremely small role compared to the inevitable new threats in a possible sequel.

No one fought Whis so I don't think they'd pass that experience for whatever reason. Up until now, Beers (or Whis) was the only one to mention the twelve Universes so, if they want to open that door, they have to resort to the two of them.

I think a sequel should be about Broly coming back, gathering the Dragon Balls and wishing Nappa and Raditz back to life.

If this is any indication, I think we can expect to see the film's home release around October/November. I hope it features similar content to this, there's some neat stuff there.

I hope Battle of Gods gets a cool release like that, but it would never get out of Japan...
