Daizenshuu release in America?

Post by DaemonCorps » Fri Apr 14, 2006 2:24 pm

Well, since I finally have some free time, I fugured I'd send an e-mail to Viz "suggesting" that they do a release of the daizenshuu in America. I know that it would be a real hassle for them to do all of that translating, but don't you think it would be worth it, especially since they cost an arm and a leg for the JP version?

I think that once Viz gets their priorities straight (put the fans first and make the manga "uncut"), then they should be able to do this.

Anyone who's for the American release of the daizenshuu, go to either the Viz contact page or the Shonen Jump contact page.

I'd say it's possible. They translated a few other books such as the Rurouni Kenshin Profiles. Shueisha was involved with the Daizenshuu releases so there's a good chance. They may release it once they are done with the manga releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.

It's certainly possible that they might release those books, given that they've released such types of books for Rurouni Kenshin, One Piece and Inuyasha.

Oh, about that statement about "getting their priorities straight by putting the fans first" is... somewhat silly(and something that only, well, a fan would say). If it's profitable, then they might do it(and putting out at least a few would most likey be profitable, so with any luck...).

Darn it, darn it, darn it!

You guys got to pointing out RK Profiles before I could! And I had images ready and everything, too!

Well, I'm gonna post them anyway!

Here 'ya go...

...You weasels!

Anyhoo, I didn't know Viz had done so for One Piece and Inuyasha, too. Can anyone post any info/images from either of those?

Also, what I'd like to confirm is, are these actual, practically word-for-word translations of the originals? The layout and wording of the book suggests as such.

Yeah, I already knew about the RK and One piece ones, but I figured those were released because they were art books, hence, little translations necessary.

I think they came out with an art book for Fullmetal Alchemist too.
On hiatus.

I dunno about One Piece, but (as you can see from my second scan :P ), RK Profiles seems to be like what DB's Daizenshuu are; all-about-the-series archive-like things.

Ah, well in that case, my hopes just rose a couple inches! But just to be on the safe side, try your hand at sending some request e-mails to Viz or SJ (see links on first post).

I completely support your effort. Even if it's unlikely we'll have really too much influence on their decision to do it, it's still likely.

I also had some free time, so I sent one too. Hope it helps.

By Inuyasha, I refer to this: (hey wait, the cover here isn't the one used on the actual book! It's suppose to be Kagome and Inuyasha sitting in a tree...)

It's not nearly as detailed/in-depth as the Kenshin book, and a lot of it is just pictures, but does contains some interviews and interesting tibits.

Here's the One Piece book. This is mostly pictures, but does contants a few bits of information, and an interview with Eiichiro Oda. I don't actually have this one, but I suppose I might as well someday...

Oh, and someone mentioned a Fullmetal Alchemist book, that would be this: I'm not into this series, so I can't comment on this one.

There's also a trio of The Art of Cardcaptor Sakura books. But those are almost entirely just pictures, though the last one(I think) does have a bouns comic in it. I like the series, but I don't feel the need to pick these up.

Hmm, with all those in mind, it does seem a little odd that they haven't released one book for Dragonball yet. Perhaps soon...

Thanks for the pics. Yeah, the FullMetal Alchemist one's the only one in the "Profiles" series, like RK.

I'm willing to bet we'll see a "DragonBall Profiles" sometime soon after the series is finished.

I think that is a great idea, not just for Dragon Ball Z, but all of the translated series that have daizenshuu in japan, it would certainly end a whole lot of moronic questions from my friends (I've been traumatized by arguments of whether Yajirobe's name is pronounced Ya-ji-ro-Bee or ya-ji-robe  )

I've seen the One Peice book in a comic shop, it's cheap but not too much in it. I'm gussing if you have a decent amount of weekly Jump you'll have seen most of it.

But yes a proper Daizenshuu in English, with a translators notes section would be awesome. Especially if it had admissions of the silly edits!

The conversation between Oda and Toriyama makes that One Piece book all so much worth it. It's funny seeing how Toriyama is absolutely CLUELESS about everything Dragon Ball related that Oda mentions, including Tao Pai Pai. XD

The Fullmetal Alchemist one is pretty much just a translation of the Japanese artbook. It's exactly the same down to the cover and pages.

The problem is is that Viz is releasing books on the manga. The Dragon Ball Daizenshuu focused not only on the manga, but mostly on the anime (some stuff on the Cardass cards as well). This would be difficult to do unless Viz got permission from FUNimation to do it. Not to mention, there's the problems that FUNi and Viz have with actually translating the damn series into English (what with Kid Buu being the "strongest form" or Mr. Satan being a "former pro-wrestler" and ditching the name for the H-name).

Well, that specific Fullmetal Alchemist book (the "profiles" one) is the Perfect Guide Book, not the art book.
