I'd have to say whoever Buu's voice is. I just LOVE Buu's voice. The voice is just sooo pefect for Buu, it definetaly beats out the Japanese voice. Sean Scheml(sp?) is also amazing, especially with his screams. He also fits Goku almost perfectly. Christopher Sabat is good in the redub, but in the 12th movie he sound a bit too dark. Brian Drummond was okay, but I didn't like his EEEYARGH! thing that he did whenever he got mad. He did a PERFECT impression of Japanese Vegeta's voice. And yes, Japanese Vegeta DID speak English. There's a clip somewhere in these forums. I'll try to dig it up later.
Yep me too. I agree with those. I also thought Christopher Sabat's Piccolos were good.Chaos Saiyajin wrote:Stephanie Nadolny, no doubt. In my opinion, FUNi's best VA, along with Chris Sabat. I love the way she captures the innoncence of Goku and Gohan as children, and Chris Sabat's Vegeta is amazing to say the least.
That's where I kinda have to disagree. Considering English Buu is made to be flat out stupid while original Boo at least can construct some of his sentences properly. :\ That and original Boo's voice doesn't make me cringe everytime he says he's going to turn someone into candy.gotenx wrote:I'd have to say whoever Buu's voice is. Considering I'm a big fan of FUNimation's cast, I'd have to instantly agree with all of the ones you guys've listed so far :3
To add some new ones:
Mike McFarland- I had the pleasure of meeting him at Otakon last year, and he's HILARIOUS. Makes sense that an actual comedian would be playing a character like Roshi, who's his favorite role among all characters he's played. Not to mention he's a damn good director, and did an amazing job on Fullmetal Alchemist along with Colleen Clinkenbearg.
Chuck Huber- I WISH I could meet this guy. He's only got three voices as many people say, but he's got such awesome range XD Garlic Jr. and Pilaf as his crazy, funny characters and No.17 and Kibito as his serious characters. Serious seems to be the type of voice he's frequently cast as, but from all I've heard and seen from him, he's nothing but funny :3 For those've you who haven't gotten the FUNi redub of Movie #1, I'd suggest picking it up simply for the comentary he did with Chris Cason.
Justin Cook- My absolute FAVORITE VOICE ACTOR OF ALL TIME. From any dubbing agency, anywhere, ever. I don't think I've ever once had a single problem with any character he's ever played, from the ZTV Camera guy, to the Cell Jrs, to Teenage Dende, to Super Buu, to Cardinal Muchi-Muchi. Going past DBZ itself, he's ALSO an awesome director, and worked on shows such as Fruits Basket and (his favorite) Yu Yu Hakusho, where he also did a freaking awesome job as he voice Yusuke Urameshi. He just puts so much love and emotion into everything he's ever worked on, wether it be directing, voice acting, and now even as the Line Producer for all of FUNimation's shows. I also got the honor of meeting him at Otakon last year for a little bit to tell him him how much of a fan I am.

That may be the case with Fat Buu, but Super Buu and beyond is terrific voice acting in my opinion. He starts sounding sadistic as Skinny Buu. In the dub, I like the acting on Gotenks Buu the most.Tsukento wrote:That's where I kinda have to disagree. I've always thought Chris Sabat utterly ruined every voice he took over with Piccolo and Jeice being destroyed from voice legend, Scott McNeil, and his interpretation of those characters.
Vegetas voice was just pure gold with Brian Drummond as his voice actor, oh how I miss him and his I'LL GET YOU FOR THIS!!! YOU WON'T ESCAPE MY WRATH!!! I'LL GET YOU!!! That was just classic.
Other than that I really like Dameon Clarke, Stephanie Nadolny, Sean Schemmel and Sonny Strait among others actually apart from a few like Mark Britten's Ox-King and Old Grandmother Frieza there all pretty good.

That, or people are allowed to have their own opinions on things. Whichever seems fair 9.9Duo wrote:And I would like to re-itterate by saying that anyone who enjoy's FUNI's Gyu-Mao (Ox King) is quite clearly suffering from heavy brain damage. And if you like Enma's FUNI voice? You are probably brain dead.
That is all.

For me, it doesn't get any better than this:
Ian Corlett as Son Goku, Scott McNeill as Piccolo, and Brian Drummond as Vegeta.
As much as I have a soft spot for the dub as it stands now, I just like how these guys did it; and, also, Chris Sabat doing so many peoples voices kind of wears away at me a bit. I like Sabat's Piccolo, but when he's doing so many other voices on the show, and you can TELL that he's the one doing them, it kind of got me bored by it. Over-exposure if you will.
Otherwise, I am pretty much cool with everyone on the US dub, but I don't really have any favorites there... then again, maybe Chuck Huber for his Pilaf, but that's more just the original DragonBall, than Z.
By the by, I don't like Kirby Morrow's interpretation of Goku, in the Vancouver dub of the show. I don't know what it is, but it always strikes me as "not right" for the part.

Actually, there's a reason for WHY there was no actually interpretation of the dialect that Chichi, Goku and such characters had for the dub. Chris Bevins, one of FUNimation's directors, said on a Burst Angel commentary that FUNimation had this joking 'rule' they gave themselves to not use any Texas country-type accents or anything to that extent, and the people from Osaka in Burst Angel were the first to break that rule. I'm not quite sure WHY, possibly to not 'stoop to that level' or something to that extent since obviously the cast is FROM Texas. I'm just repeating what I heard from him though, I don't quite know the reasoning behind it.masenko wrote:I think FUNi did a good job with Krillin's voice in Dragonball to help match DBZ. Also, I enjoy Chi-Chi's voice even though the whole "slang" thing is no where to be seen....er...heard.
Also, not to sound like a jackass guys, but I think the point of the thread was to talk about the FUNimation VAs you liked and not which ones from Ocean Group did a 'better job' :/ Just saying.
