17 and Genki Dama
17 gave ki to the Genki Dama to defeat Buu but I thought he had no ki
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147
Re: 17 and Genki Dama
The energy he uses to fight is artificial. But supposedly, all living things have genki, and 17 is still mostly human. He'd have some small amount of energy to donate.

Re: 17 and Genki Dama
Like Kaboom said, it's another part of his "ki" that's not related to his fighting "ki". Is there any other mention of...well other types of ki besides "fighting" and "genki"?

Re: 17 and Genki Dama
Exactly what Kaboom said. He donated his actual Chi rather than any from his infinite reactor.

We don't even see if he actually donates anything. Sure, he raises his hand, but for all we know nothing happened.

He raised his hand = he donated ki.Saiga wrote:We don't even see if he actually donates anything. Sure, he raises his hand, but for all we know nothing happened.
17 and 18 were after all mostly human, and should therefore have "normal" ki.
Unless we are to assume that Marron was built by the artificial ki of 18's while she was maturing as a fetus (if we want to go down that path) .
Re: 17 and Genki Dama
No, because if he had no ki to give, that wouldn't make him incapable of raising his hand.Godo wrote:He raised his hand = he donated ki.Saiga wrote:We don't even see if he actually donates anything. Sure, he raises his hand, but for all we know nothing happened.
We don't know if the Androids do have ki. They seem not to, as the Z fighters can't sense them at all. Marron really has nothing to do with it, since ki is a spiritual thing.

17 and 18 are mostly human but they seem mostly or completely powered by artificial ki.

He was brought back to life with the Dragonballs at the end of the Cell Arc, and was revived again at the end of the Buu Arc with the Namekian Dragonballs.mistershin wrote:I thought 17 died or did he come out also when Cell pucked out 18.

The last part of your post kinda contradicts itself.Saiga wrote:No, because if he had no ki to give, that wouldn't make him incapable of raising his hand.Godo wrote:He raised his hand = he donated ki.Saiga wrote:We don't even see if he actually donates anything. If ki is a spiritual thing (as you say), then 18 must have a spirit and therefore ki to be able to concieve Marron (Kuririn tells Goku that 18 is still a woman in the Tenkaichi Budokai).
Having ki that can't be sensed is not the same as not having genki to give to a Genki-dama.
If you have a spirit, you have genki, and both 17 and 18 have spirits. 17 was brought back whilst 16 wasn't, after all.
17 raised his hand to give genki to the Genki-dama. And there really is no reason to believe that it didn't happen. Nothing contradicts it.
Re: 17 and Genki Dama
I'm pretty sure the intention was that #17 donated his Genki.
What people don't realize though, is that Genki is present even in rocks and dirt. So there's no reason why, say... #16 couldn't donate Genki. It sounds weird, but if I understood DerekPadula's recent article correctly, then Genki forms the makeup of everything that exists. So even an entirely artificial construct would, at least in theory, have Genki.
Ki (also qi or chi), on the other hand, is life energy. #17, #18, and possibly #20 could have a limited amount of ki, but it would be neglectible in comparison to their artificial power sources. Since #16, #19, etc. aren't "alive" in a natural sense, they wouldn't have any ki.
Make sense?

Re: 17 and Genki Dama
I don't see any reason 18 needs spirit/ki to conceive Marron.

I think #8 also gave ki to the genki dama.

Re: 17 and Genki Dama
I think the cyborgs do have ki in them, but they just don't naturally "broadcast it" out of their bodies, which is why other characters can't detect those natural on-going "waves".
In the French version, ki is translated as "aura" (which some will argue is not the exact sense of what "ki" is), and when Gohan states that "they don't have an aura", it does feel like they don't have "that energy naturally coming out of their body and surrounding it to a more or less wide extent", but they still have energy to be animated and throw ki blasts...
So "detecting an aura" actually seems like a convenient formula to better understand the process of energy "shining out of one's body": it's basically "detecting the energy constantly being broadcast by someone", and cyborgs have an unnatural body that doesn't have that natural "constantly broadcasting energy" function, but they can still throw it out if they decide to do so (like ki blasts or energy barriers).

Was that your biggest problem with my post?Saiga wrote:I don't see any reason 18 needs spirit/ki to conceive Marron.
Or is it the only thing you can throw back without having to acknowledge the rest of the post that I wrote?
Fine, for your sake, scratch that. I was wrong. There is no reason why 18 needs spirit/ki to concieve Marron.
But if you are insinuating that artificial ki can support biological functions, then you have to accept the possibility of artificial ki being able to support a genki-dama.
I mean, if you are willing to go that deep into a pretty straight forward and uncomplicated panel in the manga (which by the way was written with Lunch in mind, who actually can donate ki), then you should be courteous enough to accept alternative viewpoints.
This is going into the realm of just plain stubbornness.
There is no need of complicate uncomplicated things.
Re: 17 and Genki Dama
All "living" things have genki that can be used for the Spirit Bomb. If plants, rocks, stars, and so forth have genki to give, then so do Seventeen and Eighteen's biological squishy parts.

Question could #16 even be BROUGHT back? He's completely an android.

That might be beyond Shenlong's powers. Maybe Porunga or that Black Star Dragon Ball one from GT that I just honestly can't remember the name of...
