10 Facts About Your Fandom

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Sun Apr 28, 2013 5:18 pm

Thought this might be kinda fun:

1) The first DB-related Forum I joined was MyFavouriteGames. My account was never activated.
2) Other than Goku, my favourite characters are Kaio and Piccolo
3) When I was about 6 or 7 I was scared of the scene that had Dab(u)ra spitting on Kuririn and Piccolo.
4) I have not seen the whole series.
5) I've only read the "Z-portion" of the Manga, which I achieved by reading the VizBigs which I borrowed from my local library.
6) I used to be obsessed with power levels and character strengths
7) I first visited Daizex in 2007 and I became a frequent visitor in '09.
8) I am insanely slow at picking up new merchandise, mostly because I don't have much money. Probably the reason why I only have two Dragon Boxes.
9) DBZ fighting games use to make me cry.
10) Legendary Super Warriors was the first DB game I played.

1) I have seen and own the entirety of all three original anime series, but have not read all of the manga.
2) I've been into the franchise since I started watching the Cell arc on Cartoon Network in about ... fourth or fifth grade? I fell out of it for a while but was brought back in when my parents got me Tenkaichi 2 along with a Wii for Christmas. The first "season sets" were also coming out at the time, which allowed me to finally get more exposure to the Japanese version and I think solely cemented my fandom by allowing me to watch the series unironically.
3) I like GT.
4) I've been going through the series from square one with my girlfriend (Japanese version). We're up to the early Baby arc.
5) I don't really collect merchandise outside of the actual series (DVDs, Blu-Rays, manga volumes). I haven't bought a Dragon Ball video-game since Tenkaichi 3 came out.
6) There's nothing funnier/more irritating than fans who get hung up on either the voices (any cast) or strength debates. Luckily Kanzenshuu has both in spades.
7) For real, though, Kanzenshuu is an amazingly mature Dragon Ball community and I love it.

Legendary Super Warriors was an awesome game! In fact, I'm going to go play that.

1.) I haven't seen all of the series (both anime & manga), though I know how the events take place.
2.) I adore Toriyama's art post Namek arc.
3.) I will one day own Dragon Box 2, even if I have to give up my innocence in order to obtain it....( :o ).
4.) My favorite character is Son Gohan.
5.) I like GT.
6.) I have a very low interest in battle powers.
7.) I absolutely hate the FUNI Z dub. Hearing it makes me want to jam an ice pick into my ear drums.
8.) My first video game from the franchise was Budokai 1, followed by it's sequel and Legacy of Goku 2 for GBA.
9.) I think Puer is just the cutest darn thing ever.
10.) This series inspires me artistically in various different creative ways.

1.) I've been a fan of DB since I was 5 years old in 1999, basically all my life.
2.) Son Gohan is my favourite character & Saiyaman is my favourite arc
3.) I have never seen the Red Ribbon Army arc in the anime, which I'm actually watching now.
4.) I own all the Dragon Boxes, I plan on getting DB/GT on DVD as well as the manga.
5.) Budokai 1 (along with Tekken 4) is what made me get a PlayStation 2
6.) I had my hair like Gohan did on Namek.
7.) I plan on learning Japanese one day for many reasons, but partially so I can watch the series without subtitles.

7 is my favourite number, so I'll stop there.

Let's see, what to put here...

1) I have seen all of the anime for every series (save Kai) at the very least twice over the years, once in English and again in Japanese. Most likely I've seen it many more times than that (some parts anyway), in English though, again just over the years though.
2) I first got into the series back when I was 12 or 13, in the 6th grade, around...2000, 2001-ish. I got into it through a combination of things - first a stupid 'bet' with a friend about whether it or Pokemon was better, and then discussing it with my best friend (who still is that today, as well as being my girlfriend).
3) Believe it or not, Pan from GT was my first fictional crush. :lol: I was too young when I watched OT TMNT to dig April, and while everyone else watching stuff when I was little was liking Misty, I saw a picture of Pan in Pojo, read about her personality, and was hooked. To be fair, I thought she was 14 at the time, which was my age (or so) at the time too, so it's not as creepy as it might sound.
4) I actually like GT well enough for what it is. To me, GT is a series full of good-to-great ideas, but 90% of it is executed terribly, so...yeah.
5) I used to get called Krillin a lot when I was a kid, by others that knew the show, possibly because I was rather short and skinny at the time. It never made me hate the character or anything, but it's funny in retrospect since he's one of my favorites now.
6) Despite not being a very big Vegeta fan, I usually love him in the video games. They seem to give him the best combos and attacks every time.
7) I've actually only read specific portions of the manga, and still don't own all of it unfortunately.
8) The first game I ever played for the series was either Legacy of Goku, Budokai, or Ultimate Battle 22 - they were all around the same time, so I can't remember which it was.
9) The very first fanfiction I ever wrote was a DBZ one. It was so god-awful though that I cringe remembering even a little bit of it, and am thankful that it seems to have successfully disappeared entirely from the internet. :lol:
10) I find most of the Dragon Ball girls to be attractive enough, physically speaking at least, but most have personalities that ruin that for the most part. Bulma is barely passable with hers, but the only real winner on both fronts is Videl.

1.) I've never seen the whole anime series (I've seen most episodes but not all, especially the early Dragon Ball episodes);
2.) I've watched Dragon Ball since it began here in Portugal in the mid 90s;
3.) When I was a kid I was scared as hell of the Oozaru transformations thanks to those scary red eyes;
4.) I used to believe that Dragon Ball was produced in Portugal (well I believed that for EVERY TV show);
5.) I've only read the manga up until the beggining of the fight with Nappa (thanks to our incomplete Portuguese release), though I own the whole Saiyan arc in color (I c.an't fully read anything since I don't know Japanese :P );
6.) I'm an anime fan thanks to Dragon Ball;
7.) Despite being amused by our many stupid jokes in the Portuguese dub, I dream about a serious and accurate dub of Kai with the same cast (well, the ones that are still alive);
8.) I wish there was a DVD release of the series here (hopefully something on the level of the Dragon Boxes);
9.) The character I feel is the most like me (personality-wise) is Gohan;
10.) I wish I could fly and use Instant Transmission, it'd be so useful in real life :lol:

CDJapan, it cost me around 28 euros - shipping included - (since I bought the BOG magazine as well) so I had no customs to pay (we only pay customs here if the value of IVA is over 10 euros or something like that).
It got here in 2 weeks and 1 day through SAL, an absolute record :D

Our portuguese dub is awesome yo! I identify myself with some of your facts. I guess I will have to write another three :P

1.) I watched all series countless times (movies/ovas included) (Kai only watched once) but still didnt read any manga chapter.
2.) Saiyan Saga is the best one and the Red Ribbon arcs are the worst.
3.) I love GT.
4.) My favourite childhood DBZ game (and one of my favourites ever) is Legends - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6xCHoSeYu8.
5.) I cleared the Dragon Ball Z Goku Gekito Den game in one day when I was a kid without saving once, only pause it to do little breaks
(the game was in japanese and I didnt understand anything)
6.) When I was a child becoming super saiyan and do a kamehameha was my life goal.
7.) Despite all the errors, I'm proud of our portuguese dub and wouldnt change it for any other one to grow up it.
8.) Teen Gohan is my favourite character but I look up to Goku.
9.) I hate Goku english dub DC personality.
10.) I consider Toriyama-sama the true God!

1. I like pretty much every character in DB/Z, excluding only some filler or movie-only characters. I even think minor characters like Uranai Baba or the Cell Games announcer are neat.

2. I listen to Kikuchi's score on a regular basis when I'm doing other things. In fact, I'm listening to it now.

3. I only own one volume of the manga. The very first. Viz's original release of it. I've been putting off getting more for years. Now I'm waiting for a good physical release of the full-color version.

4. I have, however, READ the entire manga, at least once, and some chapters several times.

5. In my headcanon, Dr. Brief is the reason why dinosaurs roam the landscape of DB Earth. Some kind of experiment gone wrong... or right. Also possibly the reason that animal-people exist.

6. I, too, had a crush on GT-era Pan for a while back when it wasn't creepy for me to. So some of the pictures I still have of her need deleting (no, they aren't hentai, but they're still skeevy to continue having). I still think Pan is pretty cool, even if GT is pretty awful.

7. Meri's Temple O'Trunks board on Otaku Revolution was the first message board I was a member of. Trunks Feature Films was my favorite feature of her site and Bubba Trunks my favorite character.

8. I'm pretty upset I can't go to Animazement (money issue). It really bums me out. I want to get Nozawa's autograph!

9. I despise power level debates. Especially involving "multipliers" and such. And especially when Battle Power numbers are used for later arcs. What would Buu register on a scouter? WHO GIVES A F***?

10. At this point, I almost don't care at all if Ocean does their own dub of Kai. It's annoying to even think of the possibility now since it's been years since the rumors appeared and no progress has been reported. If it happens, it happens. But I'm tired of speculating about it.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

1. I've only read chunks of the manga.
2. I prefer Kai to Z, but mostly because I prefer dubs.
3. I prefer the dub while not thinking it's a particularly good dub (At least not until Kai).
4. Legendary Super Warriors was my first Dragon Ball game too, but I thought it was terrible and haven't bothered with the games (Barring Jump Superstars, I guess) since.
5. I only got into Dragon Ball Z because it was on after Sailor Moon.
6. My top five favorite characters are in order: Piccolo, Cell, Gohan, Mr. Satan, and Vegeta
7. I only own two Funi Dragon Boxes.
8. The first episodes I saw were the end of the battle with Freeza.
9. My favorite arc is the Androids-Cell Games arc.
10. My favorite moment in the series is Cell's final defeat in the Cell Games.

#10 I was introduced to the series through the Funi dub w Kikuchi score via the season sets.

#9 I haven't watched the entire series.

#8 I've only read the first volume of the manga.

#7 I love the Funimation dub, and realising just how stupid some of it is has just made me like it more.

#6 I love the idea of Broli but I don't like the way they pulled him off.

#5 My favorite TV special is actually the GT one.

#4 When I was 12-13 I kind of had a cartoon crush on #18 :oops:.

#3 I like a lot of the widely hated Funimation voices, Schemmel's King Kai, Sabat's Reacoom and Jheese, Young's Freeza, Vollmer's Bulma, Nadalony's Gohan and prefer them to their Ocean counterparts.

#2 I have been watching the series subed almost as long as I've been watching the dub.

#1 The series is what inspired me to try and become a voice actor and was one of my inspirations to study music to become a composer.

I have a similar head canon except Dr Uiro is the culprit.

1. I've seen the anime in its entirety once but I don't plan on watching it again.
2. I don't collect any of the DVDs because I know I won't watch it again. I would totally go for a movie set, though.
3. I also got back into the series after receiving Budokai Tenkaichi 2 or 3 for Christmas. I didn't like its English voice track so I switched. Then I started collecting the Viz manga releases and eventually found Daizenshuu EX.
4. I grew up watching kung fu movies with my dad but I never made a real connection between DB and Hong Kong action cinema until I started reading some posts about it here. Sadly the user that wrote them is gone and took his posts with him.
5. Battle power and strength discussions are fine but I just don't see the appeal of calculating Goku's speed and stuff like that.
6. I thought The Magic Begins was charming. It wasn't perfect or...good but it was a genuine attempt.
7. I like the 4th Z movie.
8. I didn't realize how awesome Kanzenshuu was until BoG.
9. I used to play DragonBall Online. It is decent but my main interest in it is the story so I stopped. I still keep up with the updates and look at the new dogis they put in.
10. I can always list 10 things.

1.) I am heavily invested in trying to figure out power levels passed the Freeza saga. While some see it as pointless, I like having a numerical representation of how powerful the characters are.
2.) Vegeta is my favorite character.
3.) I actually do like the mainstream rock that was used in some of the earlier dubbed films.
4.) I like Kikuchi, Falconer, and Yamamoto.
5.) I HATE Broly's fanbase of wankers. Broly is weaker than Ssj2 Goku, nuff said.
6.) This is the first Dragon Ball forum, or any forum for that matter, I've joined.
7.) My first DBZ game was actually BT2.
8.) I actually really like Pan.
9.) I despise the Ocean dub.
10.) When I was little I had a cartoon crush on #18. Who the heck didn't honestly XD.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

1 ) I discovered this series by flipping channels on TV looking for something interesting to watch; found it on Toonami.
2 ) The first DB thing I ever bought was volume 2 of the manga at a B.Dalton in a local mall.
3 ) Goku's still my favorite DB/Z character. Vegeta is a close second.
4 ) I watch the show pretty much exclusively in Japanese now. I haven't seen a full Funi dub ep in years.
5 ) I don't care about power levels.
6 ) BOG has temporarily stalled my semi-retirement from the fandom (not sure for how long) because it is an awesome movie and I'm having crazy-fun drawing fanworks for it.
7 ) It's actually been a while since I've played any of the videogames. >_>;;
8 ) The only way ssjg Goku could possibly bait my inner-fangirl any more intensely with how shockingly-cute he ended up would be if his power-up came with a costume. I have since designed him a costume. XD
9 ) I used to write DB fanfics pretty often, but I'm more of a comics/fan-artist nowadays.
10 ) I actually have lots of old db fan-comics that I've never uploaded anywhere because the paper I drew them on was/is too big to be scanned properly. (I found the paper in art class; never seen such huge sheets of paper prior to that, couldn't resist trying it out.)
On hiatus.

1.) I had known about Dragon Ball when it aired on Toonami, but I despised it.
2.) My cousin showed me episode 1 of DB dubbed around 2009, when I was twelve, and I liked it!
3.) The very first Dragon Ball product I purchased was the first "Blue Brick" set (I still consider myself lucky for having the leisure of complete availability of the series, unlike the past).
4.) I have seen the entire span of all three series, plus Kai.
5.) I have not seen all the movies, and I am not looking to. I hate most of the ones I have already seen.
6.) I adore the movie 5 English dub strictly for the music, not so much for the dub itself (what an atrocity).
7.) I don't know ANYTHING about Dragon Ball Heroes, and I don't care much for it anyway.
8.) I have read all the manga, but am too lazy to purchase the two VizBigs I am missing (5 and 7).
9.) I really could not choose a favourite character even if I tried endlessly.
10.) I like GT for the music. The actual series was pretty darn bad.
So mondo lame.

1. GT is the only one of the anime series I've watched all the way through, mainly because it's the shortest. I couldn't sit through Garlic Junior and the pre-Cell Games filler, and I've only seen a handful of episodes of the original Dragon Ball. I don't intend to go back and watch any of what I've missed.
2. I haven't seen a single episode of Kai. I intend to rectify this when the Boo Arc is released.
3. For the most part, I've stopped caring about new Dragon Ball media being released. The only thing I really care about now is the video games.
4. I really like wolves, so when I was a relatively new fan, Yamcha was one of my favourite characters.
5. The RRA arc seems to be the most unpopular Dragon Ball arc, but I really liked the parts with Karin and Muscle Tower.
6. Like most others I had a crush on #18 (she might've been my first fictional crush!) and to a lesser extent Bulma.
7. It was through Dragon Ball that I discovered hentai, thanks to a Dress Up Bulma game on Newgrounds, and later googling the rumoured "Dragon Ball X".
8. I still don't have the "Z" portion of the manga aside from 2 random volumes, although I recently ordered 7 of the VizBigs and am now waiting for them to be delivered.
9. Dragon Ball is only my second favourite manga, after Bleach.
10. I really wish I could draw like some of the fan artists I've seen, it makes me so jealous ;-;
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
