Quick Question About Vegeta And Gohan

Post by Cyberman » Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:44 pm

In the Buu saga, when Majin Vegeta blows up Babidi's ship, he approaches Babidi and Buu. He says something along the lines of, "That ugly freak must be Majin Buu, huh?" Then he makes his tone far more serious, "If so, then you're the one who killed Gohan."

Why would he seem to show so much disgust or anger about Gohan's "death". He was furious at him just before that for his fight with Dabura, and even before that he's never shown much concern for Gohan with a few exceptions (like saving him from final form Freeza's beam or helping him beat Cell).

Thoughts?

Good question. This reminds me of how Vegeta also notes that Gohan shouldn't slack on his training back during the Great Saiyaman saga, like he showed concern. Perhaps something happened during the 7 year gap we don't know about.

Yeah, I can see Gohan going to him for support. I've always liked interaction between the two characters, more so then Goku and Vegeta. Dunno why...

About the training thing, I always thought he just said that since he probably can't believe how strong he used to be against Cell. Or something. :?:

Vegeta "I wish I knew how to quit you"

Alright, seriously, I think Gohan may have depended on Vegeta during Goku's various absences, seeing as Vegeta is as close to a relative as he's got. Piccolo was, of course, alienated by the whole embarassment of the saiyaman, which is why I think Gohan didn't show much connection to him later on.

I just always took as an observational remark more than anything. As for the other comment about Gohan slacking off, I think that was more out of disgust that this was the same kid that beat Cell and now he's let all that potential slide instead of maintaining it and improving. It's more about him being ticked that this gift is wasted on Gohan who apparently "doesn't appreciate it" as far as he can see.

Gohan going to Vegeta for support? No. Piccolo definitely. Kuririn, sure. Even Buruma he'd go to before Vegeta. I'm sure Gohan's anger and hate for him and the things he'd done had dissolved over the years, but still, this is Vegeta we're talking about here. :?

Well, think about how Vejita is in general. He obviously cares about Trunks (both future and present versions), and yet he's a dick to both. He smacks Mirai Trunks around, but goes insane when he dies. He smacks Chibi Trunks around, but then hugs him goodbye and urges him to care for Bulma (who he nearly blew up only 8 or so episode prior :P).

Think also that Vejita apologizes to Gohan when Gohan has saved him from Cell's onslaught and is charging his Kamehameha. I think the two have a sort of mutual respect (almost bordering on an 'uncle/nephew' relationship), especially when Goku dies. And Gohan more than likely spent time with Trunks as he grew up and visited Bulma, and I'm sure Vejita poked his head out of the gravity chamber from time to time.

So yes, Vejita cares about Gohan. He even apologizes to Gohan in his mind after knocking out Goku. Just goes to show you, the badass is a bit of a softy, marking some real character development and making him my favorite.

Good show. I agree with a lot of those points. Although he's far less of a dick to Present Trunks then Future Trunks. Never once does Vegeta hit Present Trunks(without love or just during sparring that I know of) and all he did to Future Trunks was wave goodbye to him, but he hugged Present Trunks. He even offered to take Present Trunks to the park if he punched him sparring (which Trunks did manage to do, and Vegeta kept his promise). He shows more pride in the Present Trunks than in the Future Trunks as well.

I guess it comes into play that technically Future Trunks isn't this timeline's son, but still, he seemed to soften up a bit over 7 years.

Hell, he's even nice to Goten. He lets him call him "Uncle Vegeta."

Could you imagine pre-Cell Vegeta letting one of Kakarot's sons call him uncle? 7 years with a family changed him.

Deep down, Vegeta cares for both his sons and Goku's. Like when they have to flee Earth because Kid Buu is going to destroy it, he casts a glance back at where the kids are...and he just sort of goes "hey" as it dawns on him they won't be able to save them. Then when they arrive on Kaioshin Kai, he starts yelling and screaming about saving Mr. Satan instead of their sons.

If Mirai Trunks, for some reason, ever returned post-Buu, I'd love to see what Vegeta's reaction would be.

Well, if you think about it, throughout the series up until the Buu Saga, Vegeta's seen a lot more of Gohan that he actually has of Goku: they faught on Earth (Gohan was the one who really beat Vegeta, in a way), they "met" on Namek, they fought the Ginyu Force, they fought Frieza, yadda yadda... They've been through a lot together, plus they may have that "Saiyajin bond" thing. And don't forget that Gohan is the son of Vegeta's archrival!

It's also evident that Vegeta's soften-down over the years, most likely because of his family. I mean, look how nice he is to Goku at the Tenkaichi Budokai after Trunks beats Goten! (One of my favorite moments in the Buu Saga. )

Vegeta willingly patting Goku's shoulder. Yep, I'd say he was a changed man until he went Majin, proving he was still evil inside. After that, I think he likes Goku a lot more cause they worked together like a team to beat Buu.
