The sad thing is that they put more effort into making horrible, cheesy, inaccurate lines than it would have taken to do an accurate script. It would have taken LESS EFFORT to do a better job! Think about it, they had to sit around completely rewriting entire scenes when they could have just gone with what was actually being said. I bet they thought they were being very clever, too. Patted themselves on the back before they left work.

Somebody was PROUD of "I still can't get rid of these split ends!" Somebody wrote that and somebody else probably checked it and said, "Wow! That's great, we have to keep that!" Mind-boggling.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Which fusion dialogue with Piccolo was it by chance?
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Ooooooooooooooooh that.

Yeah, that was awful.

For some reason I thought it was to do with him teaching Goten and Trunks fusion.

It's a wonder how far FUNi's come (in Anime generally and not just DBZ). Though I don't approve of your accusations. Maybe they thought they were GREAT or maybe they didn't care and just wanted a paycheck at the end of the week for it. Sorry, I'm not about to play the blame game.

Plus, as said before, there were cases where the VAs found the lines FAR TOO CORNY even for them (really says something). Also a lot of script writers were told to "punch up the comedy" when they wouldn't have otherwise. Thankfully with future Anime licenses, they were better enough to know what they were doing.

This really only worked properly with the Replacement American soundtrack because on Kikuchi's there's no music, it's just silent.

Not a line, per say, but Piccolo's terrifying laugh in the Buu Arc:

I will say though, to FUNimation's credit.....

Of course I would have preferred that they got it right from the start. In a very weird way, though, it's actually pretty cool that they started off bad and improved immensely with time. It means that they cared. It means that they listened. It means that they adapted around the criticisms they were given. One has to appreciate that when you have other dubs like the 4Kids dub of "One Piece," which started off bad and just...stayed bad (and probably got worse). Clearly nobody was listening there.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

It's not quite a dub line, but in character, and I have a feeling that a lot of guys including penguintruth will agree with it or say it's true. Heh heh heh:

Early in the Dragon Ball dub, Roshi said something like "That boy is... strange," about Goku. I thought it was humorous.

One line that sticks out in my head as not only great, but far superior to the original is the scene when Nappa is about to blast Gohan and Piccolo is looking on in horror. The scene cuts to Kami and in the original, Kami simply says, "Goku."

But the Z Dub has Kami say, "It's time."

I really love this line because we know that Kami has sensed his death coming forth for at least a year, and we also know that Kami senses a lessening evil in Piccolo. To me, this line was actually thought out, well placed, and gives a full circle effect to Kami's premonitions over the past year.

I admit that I shed a tear or two over Piccolo's last words to Gohan in the Z dub (FUNI redub of season 1 and 2, that is).

That's not bad, but then it gets weird with Kami's last words to Popo: "Remember..." Um... remember what? That he left the stove on? Were they just trying to make a crappy, nonsensical reference to Star Trek II?

That line becomes a lot creepier when you think of the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Vegeta "Does a machine like yourself ever experience fear?"

Gohan "Fight you? No, I wanna kill you,"

Gohan and Bootenks "It's time to show you why my little brother looks up to me" "He doesn't, in fact he wonders why you let me take him"

Goku "More Power Right now"

anything Mr. Satan says ever

anything Vegetto says ever.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
