Why is Teen-Adult Gohan hated so much.

Goten, Trunks, and Future Trunks got their Super Saiyan power ups without any apparent emotional cost.

And as I and Insertclevername have already pointed out, there was an emotional cost to Gohan's power up. Also, he only got the power up to begin with because he was strong enough to free the Z sword - strong enough thanks to his training.

I just don't see what is so much different from Gohan's power up to the many other non-training gains in this series:The God Water, Guru's power up, Namekian fusion, Zenkai, Super Saiyan, Freeza being born powerful, Androids/Cell/Boo being created powerful, Absorption, Babidi's power up, Potara... many of these get a free pass from the same people who bash Gohan/Toriyama for the Old Kaioshin's power up.

33x boost! 33 is close to 50x which is ssj. False ssj is a 25x base. So Goku got a zenkai version of false ssj lol.

Future Trunks did have emotion cause. In Anime his mentor died. In the manga he lived through a life worst then hell.

It's not that an emotional cost itself is necessary, but the intense rage required for the first transformation is accompanied by an emotional cost.
Future Trunks watched his world be destroyed by the Androids, and had to live in constant fear. Nothing was handed to him on a silver platter.
Goten and Trunks are exceptions for some reason, so they don't really count.

I agree with you about Gohan's emotional cost for the mystic powerup though. Having to sit there while your planet is wiped out and your friends are being eaten is pretty rough.
