If they're to announce anything this year, it'll likely be at Otakon or some other convention this summer like they did with the Z boxes in '09.SativaSam wrote:Does anyone have any idea as to when an announcement could come from Funimation about bringing the Dragon Box movies over to America?
I wanna buy those movie packs, but knowing my luck, the minute I buy them, they'll announce the Dragon Box...

Re: DBZ Movie Packs or Blu-Rays?
No clue. They have the masters and have been sitting on them.
I'd get the U.S DVD packs anyway. Worse comes to worse you could sell them on ebay. For causal fans, they'd buy a lot of all the movies than the Dragon Box movies (if they'd even know about them).

Although he would be selling it at a loss because the new ones as it is they are affordable.
Dragon Ball: Complete Collection (01-04) - $24
Dragon Ball Z: Collection One (01-05) - $15
Dragon Ball Z: Collection Two (06-09) - $19
Dragon Ball Z: Collection Three (10-13) - $19
* Amazon.com prices
Sometimes it's possible to gain more than the what was originally paid for, but this isn't the case.

Hmm thats a good point. When I sold my season sets I got back what I payed for on most of them and a little more. I figured the movies would go the same way :/

Do they? I'm beginning to wonder. I know they said in their initial announcement that they have them, but have they mentioned that anywhere else? Sometimes I wonder if that was a typo.eledoremassis02 wrote:No clue. They have the masters and have been sitting on them.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

That's a good question. Maybe they do but dragon ball dragon box won in the polls? So maybe they're now trying to get those boxes to release first? Dunno...

This is just reckless speculation on my part, but I have a feeling they will announce something at Animazement at the end of this month. I only say that because it is going to have such a huge Dragon Ball presence that I think it would be totally appropriate. Maybe I'll be totally wrong.SativaSam wrote:Does anyone have any idea as to when an announcement could come from Funimation about bringing the Dragon Box movies over to America?

Re: DBZ Movie Packs or Blu-Rays?
They are good. FUNimation applied a much lighter touch with their noise-reduction process than they did for the early season sets; you can even see minimal (but cleaned up) amounts of grain on certain movies. It's a great middle ground. The colors are also sharp and substantially less saturated than FUNimation's single releases.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Well, no, that wasn't sarcasm. I ask because I was under the impression that the movies went through the same "restoration" process as the episodes on the orange bricks. So, theoretically, putting them on high-definition format like Blu-Ray would only serve to expose their problems even more. However, the blu-rays don't strike me as being nearly as bad-looking as the orange bricks. In fact, at the risk of revealing how totally uninformed I am.......I'd even say the blu-rays look good.
There's actually been fair debate here in the past about which look better, video-wise, between FUNimation's remasters or the Dragon Boxes. The only reasons I'd actually consider getting the Dragon Boxes in addition to or instead of the Blu-Rays are 1) They come from undamaged film sources (no errant scratches, cigarette burns, etc.), 2) They have the stereo audio tracks (huge bonus) and 3) They have the original title cards, for what it's worth.
-- EDIT --
Corrected below. The Dragon Box movies aren't all stereo, but do have significantly better audio tracks.

Only on DBZ movie 13 and Path to Power, to be exact. All the other movies too sound much better on the Japanese releases, but they're still in mono.Cipher wrote:They have the stereo audio tracks (huge bonus)

Re: DBZ Movie Packs or Blu-Rays?
Wow, I had no clue Movie #13 was in mono!

Re: DBZ Movie Packs or Blu-Rays?
Yup. I went to the trouble by doing the invert filter on the movie soundtrack in Audacity and I got a static-like noise. Just to prove some youtube uploader wrong -- but he believes it's stereo because it's encoded that waykei17 wrote:Only on DBZ movie 13 and Path to Power, to be exact. No, he meant to say that Movie 13 was not in mono- the other DBZ movies before it are. I think #13 is in Dolby Surround or something (kei17 can confirm).Insertclevername wrote:Wow, I had no clue Movie #13 was in mono!
Anyway mono or not, the DBox movies sound good.
Re: DBZ Movie Packs or Blu-Rays?
Yes, though the audio track technically has only two channels, it's mixed in Dolby Surround.Fulicer wrote:kei17 wrote:I think #13 is in Dolby Surround or something (kei17 can confirm).
Re: DBZ Movie Packs or Blu-Rays?
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I guess I was just assuming they were stereo because the audio quality is so much higher.kei17 wrote:Only on DBZ movie 13 and Path to Power, to be exact. All the other movies too sound much better on the Japanese releases, but they're still in mono.
