I picked up the FCBD issue and I just wanted to mention that it shows a preview of the book cover.
As we already knew, it has the first Kanzenban cover on the front, but what this image reveals is that it will also have the Kanzenban spine art! :D
I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere, so I'm hoping it's new information, but anyway.

It'll be very interesting to see if we get the colour chapters and whether or not it is completely uncensored.
Regardless, it seems like this is the closest English release we've got to the Kanzenban.

They also mentioned that the new omnibus will be dropping the "Z" after Volume 16, so these new 3-in-1's will remain Dragonball throughout the entire run, which I don't think was ever officially confirmed until now. The big header under the advertisement of the first omnibus read "Remastered, Uncensored, and in a new collectable format." No idea if that means Popo will have his lips for the first time in a VIZ publication, or if it just means the boobs are back.

I noticed that I my Weekly Jump issues that they were just calling it "Dragon Ball." I'm glad that's becoming their standard. Also, while I would also like color pages and he new ending, I think the "remastered" and "uncensored" parts of this have gotten my attention for these releases. At the price they're going for, it doesn't look like such a bad deal now.

The paper can't be worse than the paper of a certain bible that I know of, I mean, that bible's paper is really thin and would rip easily. Guess they're not willing to spend too much on paper.

By the way, went to FCBD and they had no free Dragon Ball manga and the other free ones weren't of my interest, that and the store looked off to me. Don't like comic book nerds, I'll stick to gamer nerds. :P
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:

@dboxkaifan - If it makes you feel any better, you didn't miss much.

As others have said, it's just a chapter from Volume 3 of the manga.
Having the Kanzenban cover is nice, but you'll get that if you buy the 3-in-1 edition anyway.
The most interesting part was the ad

Well, the lady that Kuririn gets the marker from still has her lips edited out.

One Piece in particular never made it past the East Blue arc, ending its fourth “3-in-1″ with volumes 10, 11, and 12 together in one book back in May 2010.

I saw that in your article, gee I'm waiting to see Viz releases the whole thing before I try to get these.

Aren't more of the One Piece ones coming out later this year?

They are as far as I'm aware. Dunno why they were delayed, but they're continuing.

If these sell well, I bet Viz will release them to completion. I'll take bible-thin paper if it means a better quality release in all other regards.

Well, I'm doubting it because if they say the 3-in-1s have shitty paper, then the Evangelion ones should have shitty paper, and, wow. That is some high quality shitty paper. Unless they're simply dropping the ball on the 3-in-1s and really just have a bunch of different kinds at different quality and price points just to confuse their consumers. Great.

There's a chance, a small, small, small chance that Viz misunderstood the question somehow maybe, and Dragon Ball will get some preferential treatment with some better paper, like the Evangelion ones apparently did - but Eva seems to be the exception, not the norm. Check out the Naruto 3-in-1's, or the One Piece ones, or the Bleach ones, or the Fullmetal Alchemsit ones. All four of those have some of the thinnest, shittiest paper I've ever seen in a legit product. So since four of those format got bad paper and only one got the good stuff...you see my point?

Well there you go ladies and gents. There goes any chance they had of a sale to me. Honestly, it wouldn't be SUCH a make-or-break for me if I wasn't convinced they'd give us an uncensored one eventually. If I knew without a shadow of a doubt it would never be released uncensored, I'd probably cave and grab these. One can hope, I guess.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
If that's the only censorship, would it really bother you that much? If it was an otherwise entirely uncut (more so than even the SJ line's first print was, especially when it comes to the DBZ section, which never had an uncut release?), would that one type of edit drive you away? Unless Akira Toriyama magically becomes Osamu Tezuka, and Viz becomes another publisher, you probably won't see that bit ever uncensored (and even if you did, it'd definitely come with a disclaimer, like DMP did for Swallowing the Earth, due to its depiction of some ethnicities *even Japanese at one point for a Japanese-American, styled like an offensive old cartoon*. Of course, I don't think he knew how people did/would view such designs at the time, but still).

Viz, if any company that puts out manga will, is going to play racial stuff safe. Viz isn't going to let go of DB either, given the cash cow it is. So, I just say check out the first volume in stores when it comes out, and see if that meets your standards.

Even with Tezuka's works, the unfortunate racial caricatures do sometimes hold a book back from being translated. Most point to this as the reason why the Jungle Emperor/Kimba the White Lion manga still hasn't been, or may never be, translated to English.

Personally, I think a minor edit like a character's lips isn't as impactful as something that actually affects the way a scene is supposed to be read like taking out nudity or changing dialogue. Didn't they also replace guns with "laser guns" as well? I wonder if that will be restored.

I do wish that the "remastered" included a new pass at the translation though. I think that's the biggest thing holding me back from picking these up. It's not even that I hate the current translation (although it could totally be better), it's just that it's not quite a different enough release from what I already own to invest in. If it had been a true Kanzenban translation, with all of the covers, color pages, and a new translation that would be NO QUESTION! I'd be preordering as soon as it was announced :P But I guess that makes me just another fan with super specific requests that aren't necessarily realistic.......

I couldn't see if anyone else had posted this ad, but my buddy Jon posted this pic on his Twitter account. No idea if he took it or someone else, but heck, here it is:

I hope it's truly uncensored then. It might say that but I'm still skeptical.

What exactly does "remastered" mean, when applied to manga?

I asked my contact at Viz if this was all true and if so, when it was coming out. Here's what she said:

"Hi Derek -

Thanks for your note! Yes, we are releasing DRAGON BALL 3-in-1 editions - the first volume comes out June 4th, with new volumes every 3 months!"

So there you have it.

Well maybe the FCBD issue was censored like they used to censor the monthly issues but not the graphic novels (this didn't apply to DB but I believe it did to Naruto.) Color me surprised.
