The thing is, that's the ball's name. You don't expect anyone to translate or omit the character's names, right? It's the same thing. The name is pretty basic but even in the original text, the pronunciation uses the Chinese one and - I might be wrong - I think that not every Japanese kid knows Chinese (obviously they can understand it by seeing the kanji).
Don't you think it adds flavor to the series?
Does each Dragonball have a different name?

Just to clarify, my comment was aimed at Samuraix123.VegettoEX wrote:Goku's calling it by its Japanese approximation of the Chinese.
That would be like us calling the character "Torankusu" instead of "Trunks". Go back to the original source.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I have to admit, I'm a little confused. What is your exposure to the series in general? Because none of the stuff you're mentioning is exclusive to the manga's continuity. In the anime, the balls are referred to the same way (although I can't off the top of my head recall how the various subs dealt with it), and Goku makes fun of the meaning of Blooma's name.samuraix123 wrote:Haha I just found it very weird when I seen it.![]()
This is the first time I've read the Manga so things are a little funny. I also remember asking on here ''Why are people calling Bulma ''Bloomers'' or ''Blooma''?(Sorry I forgot. it's been a while) and Goku was making fun of Bulma's name calling her Bloomers haha

Re: Does each Dragonball have a different name?
My exposure to the series? For the Majority of the time I watch the series in the Funimation Dub. but I have watched the Japanese. In the Manga that I'm reading now(Dragonball Vol 1 VizBig) (And I got the book back today.) on page 31 When Goku asks what Bulma's name is, she says ''I'm Bulma'' and Goku replies Doesn't that mean ''Bloomers''?! HAW!!'' and on page 29 Bulma says ''Now Gimme the Sushinchu Please!!'' Does that help what you're asking?Gaffer Tape wrote:I have to admit, I'm a little confused. I just meant prior to this manga reading. I'm just surprised this would be your first exposure to both of those things, regardless of whether you've read the manga or not.
