Anyone feel like writing? Dragon Box Reprint

Alright guys. See that? That sucks. That sucks really bad. :|

If the mods here feel this thread is a waste of space, then I totally understand. It's cool, whatever. I know the topic's been beaten to death.

Anyway, I was wondering if we could get some people together (myself included) to write FUNimation letters requesting a Dragon Box re-print. Ask, don't demand. This isn't a place for self-entitled, butt hurt fans to whine and complain about missing out on the limited-release D-Boxes--rather, it's an avenue to organize an effort to let FUNimation know there are people willing to pay good money for the best version of Dragon Ball they've ever put on store shelves.

This probably won't work, I know. But this vocal minority did persuade FUNi to stop cropping Dragon Ball, and it also caused FUNi to bring over the D-Boxes in the first place. I'm not one for those silly online petitions myself (though I guess they can't hurt...), but if we get a bunch of nerds who don't wanna spend $600 on Dragon Box Vol. 2 to write FUNi letters (not emails!) then our chances for a reprint are 1/100 instead of 0% don't ya think? If people are paying astronomically high prices for these things then there must be some demand for them.

So, you know. If you feel like it, maybe write a letter to FUNi and post about it here. That'll encourage others to follow suit. I'll do mine tomorrow...while doing more important stuff like filling out my college transfer applications. :P

Here's FUNi's mailing address.

If they reprint them, then I'd imagine a lot of the fans who spent hundreds of dollars on a single box will be quite upset.

That sounds like the problem of the impatient, to be perfectly honest. That's not the retail price.

That's the thing. I don't know anyone that's paying those outrageous prices for them. I'm sure there are a few here and there but I believe it's a very small number. :P I hope that Funimation can re-release these for folks like me and some others who kinda missed the boat on some of the Dragon-boxes.
I'm as big of a Dragonball fan as every other member here, and I refuse to pay those scalpers that kinda price. If Hell is real these people will go to it LOL 6 hundred and 88 bucks for a cartoon? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND! I wouldn't pay their 500 or their 300. Heck, I wouldn't pay for Dragon-box 2 if it was 100! That's insane! Some people gotta eat ya know? :P  Let's hope something happens.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

So? Nobody forced them to enable the greedy scalpers and if they could afford to spend hundreds on a single DVD set they must have a healthy disposable income.

On topic, I wouldn't be surprised if FUNimation is well aware of the demand for the Dragon Boxes but what we are not privy to is what the terms of the license were. Obviously, the footage could only be used for a Dragon Box release, otherwise the blu-ray sets would have had access to a better source and we can only speculate as to whether a limited release was mandated.

Unfortunately, a straight up reprint wouldn't solve one of the issues from the group they would need to cater to in order to make a reprint worthwhile: the fans who prefer the Faulconer soundtrack, as it is more expensive to make a smaller print run than it is to do a mass release.

I already sent an email to Funi a while back and got no reply. I'm one of the people waiting on amazon.ca who were listing it for $58, but I may help out if that doesn't come through.

I'm hoping for a UK Dragonbox release from Funimation once they're done releasing the Orange Bricks. I'd say that's quite optimistic - especially given the sales figures for series sets, but I'd rather wait in hope than be taken to the cleaners financially by enterprising fans.

Besides, the Dragon Boxes appeal less and less to me as time goes by and broadcast standards go up. We're bound to get some kind of 1080p Blu-Ray equivalent at some point.

Same here. Probably lots of people placed their orders for this particular box, so I hope they'll get enough copies (I wonder where does Amazon wants to get them from).

If I don't get mine, I'm not gonna bother with the rest of the boxes. I don't want to have an incomplete collection, and the orange bricks are not something I'll be satisfied with.

If they re-release these episodes in 6 disc, remastered season sets; then I'd imagine a lot of the fans who spent hundreds of dollars on 9 of those Ultimate Uncut DVDs will be quite upset.

If they re-release these episodes in limited edition box sets, then I'd imagine a lot of the fans who spent hundreds of dollars on those crappy remastered box sets will be quite upset.

It's the Dragon Ball way. :)

I think a better question is, if they know for a fact that they don't have enough copies of vol 2 to fulfill a lot of people's orders, why do they still have it listed on site as such, and why are they still allowing people to order it like it's still in stock?

Yeah I was actually very hesitant to get vol 1 off of ebay because of the very possibility that I might not get my vol 2's, but decided to go ahead and buy it anyway, although I will mention it here like I did in another thread, if Amazon.ca isn't able to fulfill the orders, I have a feeling both Amazon.ca and FUNi will be getting emails from some very angry customers.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

That doesn't really matter to anyone, because those who paid $200 to $600 for Dragon Box 2 alone were solely due to their decision. Dragon Box 2 is on Amazon.ca for $58 but no one should get their hopes up.

You know, I wonder if Madman would reconsider putting these out, now that they're so rare. I emailed them recently and didn't get a response; probably because it was included among a ridiculous number of other questions. I might send another one over that exclusively relates to the Dragon Box and see how that goes.

Might shoot a physical letter over to Funimation too. They might take more notice of it, if it comes from the distant land that is NZ. :)

If they were to consider doing a UK Dragon Box Z, it should've been before they started to release the Orange Bricks in UK but now that only a few "seasons" are left to be shelled out, it's unlikely that they'll come up with such thing. Manga Entertainment UK must think all of its customers are fine with shit quality.

For any hopes to have Western Dragon Box releases it's all up to FUNimation, the others just get what's cheaper or better going by sales.

You should. I'll feel kinda silly if I'm the only one. :P

I'm trying to reach out to other fans and I'll probably re-post this on the FUNi boards, but Kanzenshuu really has the strongest "hardcore" DBZ fan base on the Internet. You don't see much talk of Dragon Boxes or even the Japanese Dragon Ball on many other boards.

I don't know if I even remember how to write a handwritten letter anymore.

Anyway, the Dragon Boxes were intended to be limited, right? I guess it's easy for me to say, though, since I've already got mine.

You're right. I don't think anyone's entitled to a reprint. Us folks who're frowning at those $600 D-Box 2 price tags are just the suckers who missed out and should've bought them earlier. But unless FUNimation got some weird licensing deal and could only sell them for a certain amount of time, I think a reprint isn't too unlikely if they see there's enough demand for them. So if there is a chance, then I think all the suckers like myself should try to do what they can to see a reprint happen.

Maybe if FUNimation does release the other Dragon Boxes then a temporary reprint of the Z sets would follow suit. Who knows. :P As for the letter, I think a typed out version would suffice so long as it's sent in the mail. It gets the same point across, rather than just lazily emailing them or signing a silly online petition.

Unfortunately, I really don't think that would do anything. I can see them replying with something like, "Sorry, we are focused on our Digitally Remastered Season 1-9 line at the moment. Thank you for your support and stay tuned!" I honestly can picture that being the response almost word for word. After everything with the Ultimate Uncut DVDs? They didn't react to that. Also, how many times did someone (myself included) try to get them to do a Perfect Cell Saga boxed release. Never happened. They don't respond to that. What they MAY do is tell you that there's another release coming, which will be either blu-ray or something else entirely.

It's to show them that their is interest in the Dragon Boxes, not to persuade them in one letter.
