Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
Enraged SS2 Gohan was above Super Perfect Cell, and I just kinda figure that Cell gets the same boost as a normal Super Saiyan does when he goes Super Saiyan 2, mostly because of the lightning.

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.
Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
I thought of that as well but Goku says Gohan's only shot at winning is to go SSJ2. Zenkai's work in mysterious ways as well. Sometimes its big, small, or in Gohan's case against Bootenks nothing.RandomGuy96 wrote:Enraged SS2 Gohan was above Super Perfect Cell, and I just kinda figure that Cell gets the same boost as a normal Super Saiyan does when he goes Super Saiyan 2, mostly because of the lightning.
Also lets put this in another thread as this has nothing to do with the topic.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I don't recall Goku every saying that, he didn't even really know SSJ2 existed, he thought that was just Gohan's anger/potential.dbzfan7 wrote:I thought of that as well but Goku says Gohan's only shot at winning is to go SSJ2. I agree with MJB, AT discarded power levels for a reason.

It may have been anime only. I like to think that SSJ2 moment shown in the anime is canon. It shows why Goku would be so confident to place his trust in Gohan if he saw Gohan power up like that. Also Goku is the only not in awe of Gohan's new SSJ form. You would think he would be amazed seeing something beyond a regular rage boost, but he is not in awe at all.

He expected Gohan to have enormous hidden power and would be able to bring it out. I don't really count anime only moments as canon.dbzfan7 wrote:Draken wrote:I don't recall Goku every saying that, he didn't even really know SSJ2 existed, he thought that was just Gohan's anger/potential.

Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
I usually don't either, but Goku is still not even surprised at a whole new Super Saiyan form. I like to think he had a glimpse of Gohan's SSJ2 form so his reason for using Gohan is more justified. Rage boosts also have failed on multiple occasions. Rage boosts are also brief and last for only short little while. I like to think the anime showed why Goku wanted use Gohan. Think about it. Counting on a rage boost which usually lasts for 1 minute isn't a good idea. That is how long at most Gohan has a rage boost. Unless you think Goku believes a 1 minute rage boost is enough. Gohan has never held a rage boost for more than 1 minute.Draken wrote:He expected Gohan to have enormous hidden power and would be able to bring it out. Well seeing as they thought it was just an Ascended Saiyan for like, forever and AT himself could barely tell apart SSJ2 from SSJ1, I usually like to think of it as Goku going "attaboy, get mad and lose control of yourself!" like the father of the year he always is.
Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
Goku had no idea about SS2, he was expecting Gohan to just snap and get a power boost. Which he did, but transformed on top of that.

Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
I'll pose the question again. His rage boosts barely last a minute. Is Goku really going to count on a 1 minute rage boost to save the day? Every time Gohan got angry his power only skyrockets for 1 minute and then plummets. I believe Goku had to have seen SSJ2 beforehand to truly put his faith in Gohan. It's really my theory and not fact. I believe in it because Goku knows Gohan's rage boosts are short. I can't see Goku putting his faith into a 1 minute rage boost which if Gohan doesn't kill him in that time, will then get killed.Draken wrote:Well seeing as they thought it was just an Ascended Saiyan for like, forever and AT himself could barely tell apart SSJ2 from SSJ1, I usually like to think of it as Goku going "attaboy, get mad and lose control of yourself!" like the father of the year he always is.
And they last for 1 minute. Goku putting his faith into a one minute rage boost is silly. He is also not even surprised at a new Super Saiyan form while everyone else is.hleV wrote:Goku had no idea about SS2, he was expecting Gohan to just snap and get a power boost. Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
Goku tells Piccolo and the others that Gohan's "sleeping powers were beginning to awaken" in the rosat, which actually makes the filler scene more believable. And once Gohan thrashes the first Cell Jr, Goku says "Ha. I knew it", as if he was aware Gohan's power would be as destructive as it appeared to be. So I'm okay with Goku getting a glimpse of Super Saiyan 2 Gohan during the training and believing that level of power was what he was focused on fully bringing out.

Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
Not only that but a rage boost only lasts a minute. I think Goku would have had a glimpse of SSJ2 so he could count on Gohan. A 1 minute rage boost isn't enough for Cell who can regenerate. Gohan would have had to obliterate all his Cell's in 1 minute. How would Goku know Gohan would be able to kill Cell if a rage boost lasts one minute. I think he knew Gohan would achieve SSJ2 so he would have no problem killing Cell.Super Saiyan Turlast x4 wrote:Goku tells Piccolo and the others that Gohan's "sleeping powers were beginning to awaken" in the rosat, which actually makes the filler scene more believable. Yea there's quite a lot of anime filler that really works with the manga
Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
Gohan : GOHAN IS MAD
GOHAN SMASH
*cell gets knocked into ground
GOHAN KAMEHAMEHA
*cell obliterated
Over in a minute.
LOL.

Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
My general view on filler is to count it as long as it doesn't contradict the manga. So I'm all for Gohan's training in the Saiyan Arc, the Driving Episode,.....Namek Arc filler
..., and the Otherworld Tournament (because it's really cool
). And I also see no problem with Gohan's short SSJ2 transformation in the Room of Space and Time. I understand that some people don't like to include it though.

Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
I really would've liked to have seen a battle between Gohan and Super Perfect Cell. Gohan was stronger, but seeing Cell actually fight with all that new power would've been better than just seeing it used for a beam struggle.

Re: Base Saiyans and Freeza
I'm kinda surprised the anime didn't do that. They dragged out the Freeza and Pure Buu fights, but the one fight that would have been improved by adding more stuff was left virtually untouched.Super Saiyan Turlast x4 wrote:I really would've liked to have seen a battle between Gohan and Super Perfect Cell. Budokai 1 > official canon.
And what are you talking about? Of course they modified the fight- the beam struggle now lasts an entire episode.

Well, I meant the fight between Gohan and Cell. Other than the Earthlings and Piccolo helping out (which I really liked) they didn't really add anything new. Just stretched out what was already there. It would have been nice to see Gohan and Cell go at it briefly before Vegeta jumped in.RandomGuy96 wrote:Budokai 1 > official canon.
