Forgot the name of the the track in episode 181..right before the eyecatch as Cell and Gohan stare each other down briefly.

Aye, I can imagine. It is a shame that this score has not been released in a more comprehensive manner. There are some unreleased gems out there.

I'm going to go off on a slight aside here- the Nicktoons website has the Bardock and Trunks specials with Faulconer music? Really?! Since when? As far as I knew, those only had an alternative rock soundtrack for the English dub.... What else does the Nicktoons website have with the Faulconer music?

I believe the first Broly movie also has some Faulconer music in it. You're correct that the current DVD's of the Bardock and Trunks specials have an alternative rock soundtrack. But my guess is that for the televised versions only, either Funimation or CartoonNetwork couldn't get the rights to some of the songs and so those specific songs were removed and replaced with Faulconer music. And so the TV/Toonami versions of those two specials had Faulconer music in certain spots. Apparantly this is the version that was put on the Nicktoons website (maybe for the same reason?).

In that case, which movies were the ones that had such a soundtrack? The first Broly movie did, the two TV specials did... Did Cooler's Revenge have the rock soundtrack too?

What I'm saying is that this replacement already occurred....a long time ago back when these specials were airing on Toonami. So there existed two versions of both of these specials: 1 with the full "real music" soundtrack (DVD version) and 1 with partial Faulconer/partial "real music" soundtrack (TV version). And I guess they just chose to put the latter up on the Nicktoons site for whatever reason.

As for the other movies, I think the DVD and TV versions are identical (correct me if I'm wrong somebody). That being said however, I think the Lord Slug and first Broly movie have Faulconer tracks. Of those two, the first Broly movie is on the Nicktoons site.

Yes, Cooler's Revenge had a rock soundtrack. I only recognized one song, The Game, by Disturbed, which plays at the beginning of the Goku/Cooler fight.

Not sure if this is the right area to post this but here goes nothing... Faulconer is my favorite composer of the series so needless to say I own the orange brick sets...

(1st Question) but only now having watched the series more times than I can count in Japanese, and in English with Japanese music, and US broadcast noticed for the first time how different the "US music" for season 1 sounds from the rest of the series and is noticibly different as soon as Goku arrives on Namek in season 2...Am I wrong to believe that Faulconer did not in fact do season 1 or 1/2 of season 2? I know Ocean had the rights and then came the Funimation team so does that mean season 1 in fact lacks Faulconer?

2nd Question, Now Wikipedia says when Funimation redubbed season 1 and part of 2 that Faulconer was no longer working for them hence why Kai has the baby rattle and trumpets background music for epic moments like going super Saiyan rather than epic faulconer electric guitar rifts...is this the true reason Kai did not change the score?!?

3rd question, what is the name of the, as I describe it, Freeza's Hell's Bells music? At first I thought Vegeta simply got the theme during the Android and Garlic junior arcs but that song is clearly "Vegeta's Theme" on I think vol. 4 and has some killer lead guitar shredding whereas in the US dub Freeza's music lacks the lead guitar and in place has more intense bass. Any help would be awesome!

Disclaimer: I think the Japanese music score is great and works beautifully with the Japanese language but that same music is just awful when played along side the English voice actors. Schemmel and Sabat are the only 2 it sounds compelling with, but everyone else in Kai, especially Gohan, when speaking with that music sound totally out of place. Just wanted to make it clear my preference is not bashing the original.

No, Faulconer Productions did not do the music for the "Ultimate Uncut Edition" redub of the first two "seasons" (roughly episodes 1-68). It was handled by Nathan Johnson, an in-house FUNimation person. He previously did some DBZ Movie replacement music, I think.

• 1996-1998: FUNimation 1st dub with Ocean Studios voice cast + Shuki Levy music. Originally aired in syndication, then home video release, then repeats on Cartoon Network.
• 2005-2006: FUNimation 2nd dub with in-house voice cast + Nathan Johnson music. Originally released on home video as "Ultimate Uncut Edition" and also aired on Cartoon Network.
• 2007-2009: FUNimation 3rd-ish dub (same as before just with re-recorded lines from a few folks like Sabat, Strait, etc.). Appears on the orange bricks.

Reasons for Johnson picking up the slack included legal disputes between FUNimation and Faulconer himself, vocal fan distaste for the Faulconer music, and probably tons of other stuff.

Kai has the music it has in the dub because FUNimation had long since abandoned the practice of using replacement scores for their dubs. Of course, Kai had its own problems in Japan where it ended up getting a replacement score (which was actually old music replacing new music), but that's a separate issue.
