What are the pros and cons of Dragonball Online

Post by TheGmGoken » Tue May 14, 2013 8:31 pm

I'm Korean and Black. I was born in Seoul and have a KSSN. I've been thinking about getting DBO because some of my friends in Korea(south clearly) have it and they say "재밌다" which means enjoyable or fun. So I've been going around searching for other people opinions and the lock is dead even 51 49. I know it's not exactly even but it's pretty damn close  . Okay so does this game got more cons then pros? If possible please list both pros and cons. Also I'll like your opinion on it. Like rate it 1 - 10 if possible.

From what I hear it's pretty much your standard MMORPG. I mean, it's free to play, so I don't see the harm in just giving it a try for a bit. It wouldn't cost you anything.

Pros:

*Fun, Dragon Ball styled MMORPG.
*Enjoyable Soundtrack
*Opening (Base of Tenkaichi)
*The maps. They're really well designed and memorable
*Flying
*Dragon Ball hunting is a nice feature, so is the feeling when you gather all 7 Dragon Balls.
*Being able to turn SSJ/Giant Namek/Kid Buu
*Character Customization is pretty nice. Especially with all the dogis (costumes) you can wear that make you unique.
*Some quests are easy and make you gain levels fast (at 30-31-32)
*Well designed monsters.

Cons:
*English speaking playerbase -> I'm sorry to say it, but the players in this game are the worst thing that happened to it. They ruin the fun and hack eachothers accounts, steal items.
*Cash Shop -> People who pay real money have big advantage to normal players who play for free.
*Lack of class balance. Nameks and Majins >>>>>>>>> Humans

Well as you can see there is more positives than negatives. However the playerbase makes up for it, as they're responsible for the whole feeling you get onto the game.

If you have a friend you can play this game with, then do it.

I used to play the Taiwanese version and I played a bit of the Korean version after borrowing the account of some friends I met in TW. Online is a very fun way of experiencing a new Dragon World to see how all the characters, good and evil, both influenced the world. It is at the very least successful with having the atmosphere of Dragon Ball. But take away the character designs, soundtrack, and signature techniques and you are left with a standard MMORPG with a few quirks. The luck based upgrade system is kinda annoying and as you would expect cash shop users can have a decent advantage. PvE is the usual powerscaling, grindfest and PvP is a bit lacking without any type of battleground that isn't part of a scheduled event. There are also class balancing problems like Nightstar1994 said but I think it might be the Fighters that have the advantage now due to the removal of the old scouter system. Netmarble is also slow with the updates and I think the playerbase might be dwindling because of this. Anyway I'd definitely say it is worth a try especially if you are going to play with friends. But if you are going to play the Korean version then you might run into some problems due to timezone issues and there aren't many foreigners on those servers. This game won't be around forever and it is an interesting little experiment for the franchise. Also if you understand Korean then please tell us about any interesting story details you find!

How did the removal of the old scouter system benefits Fighters?
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

In the old scouter system you could place chips in your scouter to either perform a function(like use your scouter as Dragon Radar) or increase some stats. Since a lot of Fighters rely on their critical hit damage, players who fought against them would stack anticrit scouter chips. But there aren't any chips in the new scouter system. Scouters can find quests or Dragon Balls without a chip now and certain ones can inspect the gear of other players. But I'm not sure if Fighters have the advantage now since I see on dbocom that people are complaining that the Fighter's item now has a 30 minute cooldown(the item is like the Drunken Fist, they drink some alcohol and it increases their dodge). I think that might help with balancing though since Netmarble only bothered to give Fighters and Turtles(theirs is a playboy-type book that increases...something) an item.

So is this game ever getting an international release. I have been following it for years and it seems stuck in Korea and Taiwan.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

How big is the gap is between Humans and Majins and Nameks(Sorry for bad grammar). I'm not sure if the game have a power level system but say a Human is 100. What would Nameks and Majins be?
