Does it bother you when people use dub lines?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I think Star Wars has got one of the worst fan bases myself. lol. I've never seen a fan base where so many people hate the creator of the franchise they apparently love so much. And all the cynicism over which movies you like and which ones you don't.

Wild guess: Sonic the Hedgehog, Invader Zim, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and...The Lion King...?

Although I'm not necessarily saying I agree with such a list.
Whoa!!! People argue over the lion king??? What is there to argue about? LOL Sonic, Invader Zim, and My little Pony? you gotta be kidding? people got too much time on their hands :P

No, but they make some pretty horrible fanart, fan characters, fan fiction, etc. If we're just talking about arguments, I'd have to rethink my guesses.

How is arguing over Dragon Ball any better?

What bothers me about that fanbase is the sense of entitlement. It bugs me to no end when people claim art doesn't belong to the creator. I happen to disagree with many of Lucas's additions and the prequel trilogy is pretty awful, but I still love the original trilogy and I'm thankful to him for giving me so many hours of enjoyment.

It's not any better? I was never trying to imply that it was. :P but I think we may have gotten off topic for just a bit

Only when they try to use them as facts- like the Dragon Ball wiki.

Some dub spellings of characters like FRIEZA irritate me as well. What's wrong with Freeza?

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I get tired of feeling like a weirdo (as a Manga / Japanese version prefer--er?) whenever I stray out of this board. Makes you guard your cards pretty closely when you hear people talking DBZ in real life.

Dub line quoting has the tenancy to set that off first and foremost. I still see FB meme photo's of Goku delivering the "I am..." speech. I often just comment saying "I'm so glad they fixed this line up for the Kai version - my goodness was that first translation unbearable."

Glad I'm not the only one that does that  It irks me a bit as well. He is not "the light in the darkness". His proper "I am..." speech in the Kai dub is my signature. It is infinitely more epic than "ally to good, nightmare to you!" I just don't see why people don't understand that. It's one thing if they like it, but at least acknowledge the proper version as well. Please. It ain't that hard.

The light in the darkness speech isn't Goku at all. One of the threads in the Freeza arc is Goku finally reconciling who he is - he's not just human, and he's not just another Saiyan, he is a Saiyan raised on Earth.

Pretty much this. I don't really care if other fans uses the dub lines when were having a conversation (or whatever). But when they try to use it as a source for facts (or as a characterization of a character) I just simply do my best to inform them. I don't jump on them or get angry if they get something wrong or confused because of the early english dub. Hell, I was once on of them until I stumbled upon this site.

.

Exactly. Vegeta's speech about the extinction of the race, I believe, is what made Goku realize more of what he is, and where he comes from. He knew that, at the time, he was the last surviving full-blooded member of his race. He was staring down the monster who basically single-handedly killed his father, nearly all of the other Saiya-Jins, and his home planet, the monster who killed his best friend and threatened his son. This wasn't a superhero moment. Goku was pissed. He accepted his lineage, and he let loose his Saiya-Jin side, and it was a frightening moment. Freeza knew he wasn't playing around now. Goku had to get his hands dirty and destroy Freeza.

In the original dub scene, dub Goku was still just dub Goku, only mad, and with golden hair. In the Kai Dub, he was Son Goku, realizing who he was, accepting that for once, he's actually gotta fight to kill. Z Dub Goku and Son Goku are two separate characters. That is what makes me sad about the dub. There should be only one Goku, Son Goku, at all times.

Ugh Sonic has one of if not the worst fanbase ever. Whether it's trying to make pairings out of 8 year olds, 2d vs 3d, or the most stupid the green eyes crap.

MLP fanbase only sucks when they spread that crap like a virus. Never have DBZ and MLP together ever. I especially hate when they demote Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta into Bronies.

I like Invader Zim but don't know about it's fanbase or Lion King's fanbase

It depends on what dub lines.

Super Saiyan Goku's intensely out-of-character "hope of the universe" speech, or Freeza's creepy come-ons, or lines with meaning that got changed into fluff or nonsense... blech.

But everybody loves the "people-popcorn" line. Everybody.

 I was just watching the clip of that before I read your post. I think that you're right on the money with that one. I could almost imagine TFS leaving that line in as-is with DBZ Abridged. It's too perfect.

I don't know, the Sonic fanbase is the worst IMO  .

It does bother me sometimes when fans use dub lines and act like they are the official source for everything. I still hate the whole "I am the hope of the Universe" crap. I do think people who use " Bejīta" instead "Vegeta" can be annoying sometimes when the name always translates to "Vegeta" in English. I do admit that I like using Japanese names over Funi dub names sometimes since I really hate Tullece calling "Turles". That name is so dumb in my opinion.

I hate how this website turns names such as Tur-les/ Tur les and Fri eza to it's original name. Even though mostly they're bad names but can't blame people for spelling the way they're used to lol.

Tur-les is such a bad name. Turles sounds so more badass(Masako Nowsako best character to be honest).
Fri ez was just funimation being idiots.
